Around since 1857, many hotels can be quaint but a bit long in the tooth. Not the historic Cary House. Beautiful. Charming. Historic. Warm. Inviting. Well located. Located on the main street of Placerville, this 157 year old hotel is a gold mine! The lobby is inviting filled with wonderful artifacts collected through the history of the hotel. Not overcrowded...

I run an annual event for 35 people and this was my 3rd year at the Cary House. I keep going back for several reasons. 1. I love the ambiance of the place. it's a nice gold rush era hotel where 'rustic' means cool rather than old and broken. The event facilities are nice and have the same atmosphere as...

The Cary house is full of historic beauty. The service was beyond what I expected for such a short stay and I'm not an easy person to please. Location was awesome its right on main street next to everything you could want for a vacation or stop over. Definitely coming back.

We stayed in their Bridal Chamber during our honeymoon and found head and body hairs in the bed. The night manager was very apologetic, but the morning manager treated us like we scammers. She offered us a free room for a future date, but why would we return to such an unclean hotel?

This is a great hotel located directly on Main St where a lot of action takes place in Placerville. The lobby is dark and lush, with a beautiful piano in the back. The lobby staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are charming, but remember that this place is historic, so not a lot of amenities that newer hotels have....

We only stayed here for one night as a stop over whilst travelling. The hotel is lovely, the lobby area is quaint and the man on reception was lovely. We arrived really early and he saw we got checked in right away. There is a car park at the back of the hotel (through a little alleyway) and you can...

Admittedly we only spent a single night at Cary House Hotel but we were impressed. The lobby is beautiful and set the tone. The 90 year old elevator could only handle 2 people or 1 person plus baggage at a time which we found charming and hilarious. It was only a novelty anyway as we were on the first floor...

The front lobby was decorated beautifully so I was a little disappointed when we got up to our room, but maybe it was the look they were going for. While I didn't book a "haunted room" I somehow got upgraded to one. Overall not a bad hotel not quite as nice as I was expecting after staying at another historic...

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon. The hotel is in a beautiful old brick building. Rachel at the front desk was VERY helpful and friendly. She brought ice up to our room for our champagne, and also looked up info and directions on a couple of places we wanted to check out on our...

My husband and I have made a tradition of attending the annual antique faire the last weekend in September and really enjoy that and also the town of Placerville. We stayed last year at the Historic Cary House and other than the location, I'd say that was really all it had to offer. The room had a strange layout and...
