Clean, but minimal amenities. Staff was professional, but less than friendly. Lack of air conditioning required open window, but outside noise from adjacent pub made sleep difficult. Don't pay extra for the breakfast. Restaurant (Maxine's) is not part of hotel and the food is very poor. Parking requires searching for an open space on the street or one of the...

This was by far the cleanest hotel, with so much charm and character. I liked being able to walk all over Palo Alto - I suspect on the weekends it could be loud, but we were there mid-week and it was fine. A very cool hotel.

First of all, this is a really neat historic hotel in a top location. Room was charming, the lobby is cool looking, funky elevator, and you're within walking distance of everything in downtown Palo Alto. The negatives: parking and THE noise. I parked overnight in the community lot across the street, so it was no problem because I checked in...

This hotel is absolutely charming. The rooms are warm and cozy and delicious coffee is provided each morning in the lobby. Please check out the beautiful fireplace, old phone booths and switchboard. You can park your car for free and stroll through beautiful Palo Alto. We highly recommend Evvia restaurant for dinner.

Well located in central Palo Alto and offering good value accomodation if you go for the shared bathroom option ( communal bathrooms were perfectly adequate and very clean). Good decor and older world feel with helpful desk staff.

This hotel is a gas! Lots of twenties-to-forties decor and ambiance in a great location, funky alternative to the modern cookie-cutter hotels on El Camino and 101. Welcoming staff, comfortable lobby with fireplace and good free coffee. This hissing radiators are one slightly-too-authentic features, but easily forgiven. Don't miss this.

I spent 3 weeks at the Cardinal Hotel. My trip was both for business and holidays. EXCELLENT LOCATION. I needed to be close to Stanford, and the location is excellent. Less than 5 minutes walk to Margherita Shuttle, the free Stanford bus. Same to Caltrain, so that you can easily go to SF, the airport and travel in Silicon Valley....

I stayed in this hotel as part of a group business trip to Stanford in Dec 2011. The hotel is well located, just off of University Ave in Palo Alto, easily within walking distance to Stanford and close to a number of good restaurants and coffee shops. The Cardinal Hotel is a boutique hotel stuck in the 1920s, when it...

This hotel is really a gem and I'm at loss as to why some reviews are negative. Location: one block off University Avenue, which is the main drag of silicon valley chock full of boutiques and restaurants. Hotel: gorgeous lobby retaining many of the original 1920's details. We had a two room suite. It wasn't huge, but large enough. Fold...

3.5 stars, really. If you are in need of luxuriously appointed rooms, look elsewhere. If you don't mind small, almost cramped 12' x 12' rooms consisting of a bed, side tables, a small desk, a chair, and a maybe 32" LCD TV, this is your joint. If not for the location, this would be just another non-chain hotel. But the...
