Originally built in 1936 by reputed Purple Gang Mobster Al Wertheimer, the Colony Palms Hotel was once a saloon, speakeasy and gambling house that later became a playground for Hollywood ICONS including Humphrey Bogart, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Rita Hayworth. Colony Palms Hotel has maintained its nobility as a stunning four-star boutique hotel spread out over a three acre property. The rooms promise subtle sophistication with brilliantly colored mosaic tiles and fabrics, rich woods, and suzani headboards. Many have fireplaces and claw-foot bathtubs. Mature gardens throughout the property provide privacy, and intimate outdoor spaces, and the rooms open to the a central courtyard with pool. The hotel’s restaurant, the Purple Palm boasts exquisite cuisine and a stunning view of both the pool and San Jacinto Mountains. The newly redesigned Spa offers a serene atmosphere and top of the line treatments. Colony Palms Hotel also plays host to a variety of stunning weddings and events, with the option of utilizing a newly refreshed private event space or a full property buyout for a truly intimate celebration. Colony Palms Hotel is a mix of modern luxuries with a dash of romance and tranquil getaway.

The Colony Palms Hotel captivates guests with its classic lobby and inviting spaces, though it receives mixed reviews about room lighting and modernity. Staff members earn accolades for their exceptional service, going above and beyond for guests. While some visitors find the rooms to be outdated and not up to par, others enjoy their cleanliness and comfort. The hotel's prime location is a highlight, offering tranquility alongside easy access to local attractions. Despite praise for cleanliness and the pool area, the hotel's value is questioned due to high costs and additional fees for certain amenities.

I am currently staying at this hotel as a final getaway before the birth of my child, hoping to unplug and enjoy a luxurious weekend. My standards for luxury travel are quite high, so I approached this stay with tempered expectations, especially considering the location in Palm Springs.

Upon arrival, there was no valet available to assist with my car, which was not a major issue. However, as I walked through the entrance, a staff member rushed out of a door, causing it to slam into me. Rather than apologizing, he simply muttered, “Oh, sh*t,” and kept walking. When I politely suggested that an apology or excuse me would have been more appropriate, he curtly responded, “Well, you shouldn’t be standing there.”

Check-in was a bit of a mixed experience. While I was greeted with a glass of champagne, which was a nice touch, the highlight was the front desk attendant who was absolutely lovely and even walked me to my room. The hotel also added a personalized brass name tag to the door, which was a thoughtful detail.

The room itself, however, was underwhelming. It lacked basic amenities like bottled water, a blow dryer, an ironing board, and lotion, all of which we had to repeatedly request. The air conditioning vent was noticeably dirty, and the room was so dimly lit that we joked it felt like a cave. A floor lamp or additional lighting fixture would make a significant difference.

The pool area was another disappointment. We waited over an hour for towels, which were unavailable, and the area was littered with trash, old food, plates, straws, plastic bags, and dirty towels. It wasn’t until I went to the front desk to request a cleanup that staff finally addressed the issue, sending out a team of five to tidy up.

Despite these issues, most of the staff have been pleasant and accommodating. However, for a property that self-proclaims itself as an “Ultra Luxury Hotel,” it falls short of true luxury. The hotel could benefit from implementing more luxurious features and amenities while ensuring cleanliness and consistent service. Additionally, training staff to be more mindful and courteous, especially in their interactions with guests, is essential. For the price they’re charging, these are the minimum expectations.

In my opinion, this hotel is more accurately a 4-star property, and there are several other high-end hotels in the area that I would consider more deserving of the luxury title.

The Colony Palms is by far the most beautiful, polished and comfortable hotel in Palm Springs and one of the best we’ve ever visited. We came here for our mini-moon when they first reopened after the refurbishment two years ago and loved it so much that we returned for our 2nd anniversary for three nights.

As soon as you walk through the green archway entrance you’re in a peaceful and chic sanctuary. The grounds have little carved out spaces for privacy while not being overwhelmingly big. The heated pool and comfy chairs/daybeds to layout in are relaxing as can be while you stare out at the surrounding desert mountains and palm trees with tranquil groovy music playing. It’s the perfect Palm Springs vibe and you won’t forget the feeling laying there taking it all in as you read a good book, play cards, or sip a poolside paloma or Arnold Palmer.

The customer service was A+ from booking, to checkin, to adding extra day and making sure our room was always comfortable with the fireplace lit. Shoutout to Roberta! They were super accommodating with our dog there and made sure he had water when we laid by the pool. Great poolside staff.

Our room was cozy and welcoming as can be starting with the personalized name plates on the door (incredible touch). Bed and pillows were comfortable and silky, loved the claw foot tub overlooking the mountains, big shower, porch deck with seats for some evening cocktails and extra love to the fireplace in our room. Each night they left special treats and eye masks for us too. Personal touches galore which were much appreciated.

What more can I say? It’s a timeless and stylish space all around and you’ll feel like Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward when you’re there. Sensational stay. Thank you Colony Palms crew!

I had a chance to book a last minute getaway here after not having stayed for several years. The hotel has recently been assumed by new ownership and the renovation and upgrades are nothing short of magnificent. The deluxe room category, while small, is beautifully appointed and the bedding was comfortable. Really nice soft touches like Frette towels and linens made it extra special.

The outside spaces are reminiscent of old Hollywood and are very comfortable for lounging and relaxing.I was especially impressed with the restaurant and the service around the pool which is often lacking in the desert. It was warm and genuine and the food quality was superb.

There were a few issues I had staying here which, if corrected, could make this hotel one of the best boutique hotels on the west coast. The hotel is expensive, and in order to live up to its expense can improve in the following areas:

1. Although check-out time was at 11am I was planning to spend the rest of the afternoon at the hotel to use the pool and facilities. To my dismay there was no shower I could use to get ready for my trip home (which wasn't until the evening). There should, at minimum ,be an outdoor shower that people can rinse off from after using the pool before departing. I was forced to leave much earlier than expected which cut my trip short by an entire day. When I asked the front desk for assistance they were completely inflexible and totally indifferent.

2. I would also expect a hotel of this category to provide some element of bottled water complimentary in the room every day. I think when paying up to $500/night it's ridiculous to have to pay $9 for a bottle of Evian in the room to have some clean drinking water. At the same time my toiletries were never replaced by housekeeping when used up. These are attention to details that truly make a difference.

If ownership corrects these elements which are fairly simple, I do believe this would be the best place to stay in the desert hands down.

Where does one begin? From the women's hair in our bathroom at check in (we are two gay men, this was not our hair) to the restaurant manager offering us a round at the bar due to a delay to then refusing to pay for them (was trying to blame it on our waiter), I've never had such a horrible service in my life. I've worked in hospitality for years and while COVID has caused major issues in the service business (something I truly sympathize with), there is no excuse for the service we've had since checking in. Housekeeping doesnt show up, Ive had to pour my own drinks in the restaurant (not exaggerating) and they have one valet serving a hotel with 50 rooms....
We are currently spending $800.00+ a night, at $800.00 a night, you shouldn't wait 30+ minutes for a drink (to then have management scold you for being unreasonable), call three times in one day to have your room made up or have to call valet 20 minutes before you need your car, to then have to wait another ten just to leave.

The owner of the property is an interior designer and cares much more about ascetic than customer service....and he hasn't even done the interiors right, the wallpaper is pealing off the wall in our room...so much for a "transformation".

Id rather go on a Carnival Cruise with a COVID breakout then check back into this hotel.

I am a traveller who consistently stays in 5 star hotels, the majority of which are booked through American Express Platinum Card Services. American Express' designation of a Fine Hotel & Resort customarily ensures exceptional accommodations, services, and amenities. None of this was evident during my two-night stay at the Colony Palms Hotel. From inexperienced front desk personnel to out-dated, unkept and unclean rooms, my stay could not have been further from an enjoyable experience. The Colony Palms Hotel in no way deserves a high rating and American Express needs to do a much better job of reviewing and rating the hotels it includes in its Fine Hotels & Resorts collection.

We had a delightful experience during our recent stay at the Colony Palms. The front desk staff went above and beyond to ensure our happiness, and we'd like to give a special shout out to Conrad and Tara for making our trip even more memorable. While the pool service was sometimes inconsistent, they were quick to address any concerns and proved to be incredibly helpful. Yocelyn stood out as the most exceptional poolside server we encountered. The property itself is breathtaking and impeccably maintained.

During our stay, we encountered a few minor issues with our room keys being deactivated by our cell phones. It's worth noting that the keys are quite sensitive, so it's something to keep in mind if you decide to stay here. That being said, our room was spacious, beautifully furnished, and the beds were comfortable. The only complaints we had with the room were related to the misalignment of the shower door, which caused the glass panels to collide and potentially pose a shattering risk. Additionally, the drawers in the living area were somewhat disorganized and tended to fall off the tracks.

Lastly, it would be wonderful to have the option for self-parking at the Colony Palms. During our stay, the only available choice was valet parking, which came at a cost of $35 per day. Having the flexibility to self-park would be a convenient alternative for guests who prefer to handle their own parking arrangements.

Good, although it was starting to feel a bit enclosed after a few days. Nice staff, nice food. The only thing we didn't like - and this is a larger American issue to be honest - is the number of things that were charged as extras e.g. a 'resort fee' (for using the pool), a fee to use the wi-fi (seriously?) and yet another fee to park your car.

We’ve stayed at this resort pre & post renovation and here’s the breakdown:

1) Reception: there was one competent woman working who was gracious enough to let us change rooms
from the $1000/night dungeon room to the $1000/night far better room. The other two receptionists were either entirely & visibly miserable/unhelpful or entirely & visibly clueless.

2) Spa: the grossest and dirtiest place we’ve ever been. Honestly, gas station bathrooms are cleaner (we’re talking actual sh*t all over the toilet and stall). The $300 massage was entirely overpriced considering what an actual dump the place was BUT the massage therapist was awesome and the only salvation. Too bad it was her last week there…(which speaks volumes of the management)

3) Room renovation - great but then small, stupid stuff like no toilet paper and no complimentary water, tea, coffee…anything. This is $1,000/night…give us a g*ddamned pen or h2o bottle at the very least. Don’t be a cheap *ss.

4) Pool Staff: the hotel was 100% booked and they had one person waiting on the entire pool area + a trainee. One. Person. Mind blown.

5) Restaurant: can’t speak to dinner but the breakfast and two lunches we had were vile. Shame bc the menu looks great but everything we ate was actually gross.

General:
Most staff were truly awesome and it’s clear that the management is to blame. Others had very clearly make the wrong career choice.

Will never stay here again at this rate bc when we pay $1000+/night then we want to feel like we’re at hotel worthy of $1000+/night…this fell far short of that standard. Embarrassingly so.

Ps. We were told we had to ‘request housekeeping’ and when we did, they threw a shopping bag of brand new tennis sneakers away. I mean…wow..

For the first time ever I checked out of a hotel within an hour of checking in. It was so bad that I booked another hotel even before I got confirmation of my refund. I was willing to lose money and write this off as a loss because there was no way I was going to stay there. I

- You'll be flat out ignore for any poolside service for over 40 minutes, even if the pool area is completely empty with less than 5 guests. You'll watch the server tend to those guests, watch them enjoy multiple rounds, all while getting zero acknowledgement or greeting.

- Your requests for help with things like putting Umbrellas down will be flat out ignored by staff who turn their back to you and go back to chatting with eachother.

- If you raise these issues, you'll have an assistant GM approach this with smarm like you're a toddler. Solutions please, not sympathy.

...and the valet will feel emboldened for some unknown reason to tell you he thought you were a Postmate driver!

Yes, all of this happened within 50 minutes of my arrival. I also expressed this to the front desk as well and the young man there, who was not black, started talking about his *own* challenges. Ok.

This is a property I've stayed at before and while I noticed poorer service compared to the sister property L'Horizon, my perspective on the staffing and management of Colony Palms was overwhelming clear that I was not really welcome.

This is NOT a standard for palm springs and there are so many great properties whose staff and managers I've grown to l love. So many other properties have an unbiased and proactive approach to service whether youre a new guest or a regular. This is not one.

I cannot say enough about this place . From the moment we arrived the experience was incredible . The floor alone in the lobby is so classic , it sets the tone for the complete experience . The countless alcoves , and hidden setting areas scattered throughout the property are so inviting . This was our first time in Palm Springs . After many delayed flights and spending the day in the airport , arriving at this hotel (after booking at the last minute ) it made our day !!! We will definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in Palm Springs .. What a delightful experience

If you are into hiking Taquiz Canyon a great choice. More adventurous and don’t mind the cold , take Palm Springs tram up and hike around . Sunny land is also a good place to stop in . No need to pay for the tour just enjoy the grounds and go into visitors center to see exhibits and the film
