Gorgeously manicured but not overly fussy. Seclusion, naturally. That's our new-fashioned desert hideaway tucked into the design scene of old downtown Palm Springs. At the iconic Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs, the eclectic range of 67 Spanish-style lodgings, including 13 private villas, follow in storied Hollywood footsteps with deep residential comforts and three pools. Spend a sunny afternoon lounging poolside and then cozy up by our fire pits as the sun sets over the San Jacinto Mountains - step inside and embrace the magic of Avalon.

Powered by AI
Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs earns praise for its immaculate grounds and strategic location, perfect for guests eager to explore downtown attractions on foot. While the service is often lauded for being attentive and professional, some guests feel the hotel falls short on value, pointing to outdated rooms and lackluster amenities despite the higher rates.
The ambiance fluctuates in guest opinions, with some charmed by the retro feel and others critical of the dated design. However, the pools and on-site dining remain highlights for many visitors.

Hotel's Favourite
Simply put: I love this place. I stayed for a month. Last year I stayed for a week and it wasn't long enough. I used to own a home in the desert and instead of the headaches and expenses, I now visit the Avalon for a month (and will do so every year, maybe longer stays in the future). The property is spread out over many acres and feels like three separate areas. I stay in the bungalows (next to Joan Crawford's favorite villa which clearly did not have wire hangers in the closet) which are DELIGHTFUL, complete with separate bedroom, bathroom, living room with fireplace, kitchen and dining area; plus a lovely private back yard for nude sunbathing and a welcoming front porch for people gazing (the area is anchored by a gorgeous fountain and manicured grounds). I have breakfast every morning delivered to the front porch and soak in the morning light which is magical in the desert. The bungalows are silent and the sleeping in the cool winter desert air is divine. Naps on the coach in the late afternoon in front of the roaring fireplace is a treat like no other. The property would not be the place it is without the people who make it "my home." From the gardeners (who gave me a gift of a succulent creation as a "remember us by") to the housekeepers (who magically clean the place better than my home) to the pool staff to the front desk folks, these people know what hospitality is all about, and they do it naturally and honestly, with gracious smiles. With so many folks to name, I want to thank those who still linger in my mind: Candice, Norby, Jon, Cody, Juan, Edgar, Elsa, Eloy, Bran, Alex, Steph, Gerardo, Michelle, and Denmar. The wonderful GM, Matt, has his hands in everything and runs this place like a well oiled machine; along with a big smile and accommodating personality. Avalon is lucky to have him! The Aesop products help to keep me smelling nice and enjoy the finer things in life. Just so the reader doesn't think I'm connected to the hotel, the one thing I found disappointing was the food selections and variety of options, most of which were just average. That written, one night I asked if they could make soup for me and the chef whipped up Tomato soup that was delicious and should have been on the menu. They also created BLTA's for me poolside and those were wonderful. The Avalon is my home away from home, and well worth the price which I found to be average in today's money-grabbing hotel environment. I can't wait to return for my month this winter!

We (family of 3) loved this cute little spot! Booked at the last minute to make a quick trip up, we stayed at the Avalon on a Sunday night and absolutely enjoyed it. Received a nice upgrade to a 1br bungalow suite and man it was rad! Huge space, big room, big living area, full kitchen and dining, really a luxury old school accommodation. Wish we could have stayed longer. Enjoyed happy hour drinks at the Chi Chi lounge at night before walking a couple blocks to the main strip for dinner, very central location to the main drag, never need your car. Then had breakfast at the Chi Chi again and really enjoyed the food, top quality. Great service all around. The property is beautiful, very well maintained and manicured with hedges and greens and trees and historical significance, water features, multiple pools and spas, it is a much larger property than expected (think they said 5 acres). Would love to come back here again!!!

Dear Mr_TJK, Thank you for your outstanding 5 Star rating and review! You have totally captured the 'essence' of the Avalon! We are so pleased you felt so well cared for by our dedicated team, while enjoying our array of amenities, and savoring the creations of our Culinary team. The property does exude a tranquil ambiance, even though we are superbly located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs. We thank you for staying with us, and we do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back, and as you wish, for a longer stay.

As a frequent visitor to Palm Springs it's nice to have such an agreeable spot to call home. Nestled just a block or two from the main drag, Avalon is a very welcoming little boutique hotel with not 1 but 3 pools; expertly arranged so that grown ups may a clean, quiet, child free aquatic experience. Don't worry fams, you have your own pool on the opposite side of the property. With free bikes and a California Cool interior designed by Kelly Werstler, Avalon is just the right balance of bling and low key chill. Get to the adult pool early if you want a sunny spot. The menu is excellent, dare I say curated and best served on the shady patio at the middle pool. Staff is ALWAYS nice. Front desk and valet are some of my favorite people. It is immaculately maintained and there are some great deals to be had during off peak times. Choose standard rooms or a charming bungalow for more space. They will even valet your bike if you bring your own! The perfect outpost for exploring PSP or shutting out the world while you lounge protected and pampered poolside.

They had good intentions, but if I’m going to be honest, I’d save your min. $200/night for a better hotel in the Palm Springs area. The front desk staff could have been nicer, and also there should have been two staff working upon checkin, the wait was long with just one (especially when taking into consideration social distancing practices, there were too many guests in one room). The pool area is super cramped and small, especially compared to other hotels in the area for the same price. Room service got my order wrong both days (and all it was was coffee with almond milk, a juice and ice), they also had to ask what room I was in, they should know. They didn’t tell me upon checkin that the $25/day credit was not included if using room service, otherwise I wouldn’t have ordered room service. When asking about my bill the woman was short with me and didn’t apologize for not mentioning to me that room service wasn’t included in the credit. Might not be her fault but she did mention that it was her who checked me in, and that’s usually something that they tell you upon check in, if you have a package deal. It’s just good customer service to do so. There was constant noise outside of a party until 3am Saturday night. Loud carts rolling by outside my window off and on throughout the day, as well as power washing on the grounds outside my window (Monday) with use of a generator which is very loud.
If people are outside your door, you can hear them plain as day. The people staying beside me were very loud and it was bothersome. The air conditioning hardly worked. It was down to 62 degrees but felt like 78. I love the heat but it just got too hot in the night.
There were not enough lunch/dinner options at Chi (5 main meals, 3 appetizers and 3 desserts that remained the same for both lunch and dinner every day), and not many healthy options, so I ended up ordering Postmates both nights. $200 deposit per night is too much considering how tiny and basic the regular rooms are. The bed was squeaking whenever I’d move an inch on it. Woke me up in the night whenever I’d turn over. The bathroom was dark with no windows, very empty feeling with no countertop to put toiletries (I stayed in room 327). There were fingerprints on the phone and light switches indicating that they were not wiped down/sanitized to comply with COVID sanitization policies. I could go on. But I’ve stayed in over 500 hotels in my life and this one was not the best. The valet were the only nice staff. For over $200/night, there’s definitely better in Palm Springs.

While we were househunting in Palm Springs we stayed the first night at the Avalon. It is a small hotel very typical for Palm Springs, with a great staff everything was clean everything was well organized. Surprisingly one of the very few places where they still offered a limited menu as we had breakfast here and dinner. The place is meticulously kept there are two pools one for those who want to see and be seen the other one more of a quiet type.
The property is large enough to accommodate a bigger crowd but still feels very intimate and personal. With all the pandemic going on the Avalon has figured out how to maintain a somewhat normal service and the helpfulness of the stuff made this place one to keep on my list of favorite places to come in Palm Springs.

My mom and I spend a few nights at the Avalon recently and we loved it. Our first impression was the rooms could use some updating but the location, beautiful grounds, pools, hot tubs and the service we received was just incredible! We felt like special guests as the staff went out of their way to make sure all our needs were met. The restaurant / bar has a great limited menu for take out and we even met Chef Chang Sivilay who prepared a special dinner for us one evening. Given this was during Covid we felt very safe at the Avalon and were very appreciative that we were able to have this amazing culinary experience. Thank you again, we will return!

This hotel has a great location within walking distance to everything in downtown Palm Springs. There are two pools that are nestled in among the trees, very quiet and private. Staff were all friendly and helpful. There seems to be a nice spa and a hot tub but we did not use those. This hotel is dog friendly and we did see a few dogs, but none were bothersome. We had drinks and some food by the pool which were all pricey but good, we did not eat any major meals here. The hotel is only a mile from the hike in Tahquitz canyon. A short drive to the hikes in Indian Canyons which were amazing. Because dining is so restricted in PS, I would highly recommend you make dinner reservations far in advance, we did not have one good meal while we were in town because all of the good restaurants were booked up.
As others have noted, the hotel could use some updating and we paid $550 for two nights and $250 for another night. I would say a fair price would be around $300-$350/night. I asked for a room that had been renovated and we were on the ground floor by the pool but had a hedge in front so it was very private and quiet at night.
Also, it would have been nice to have some coffee available in the lobby or from the bar in the morning, or even in the room. Had to walk to Starbucks which was crazy crowded all the time.

I must express my intense love of this vintage beauty called Avalon Hotel and Bungalows The property is well maintained, clean, laid back, charming, and vintage Palm Springs. The views of the mountains and palm trees are breathtaking. We loved staying in the bungalows, walking on the property, swimming by moonlight and eating at the amazing Chi-chi restaurant. The GM and his staff were attentive to details, friendly and made us feel safe in the way they implemented COVID-19 precautions. Overall I would highly recommend this property for a family get away, a couples retreat or girls weekend. It’s a place you will want to return to as soon as you leave.

We stayed at the Avalon in early December. Before Palm Springs gets busy with the crowds of high season. We will do it again at this time of year.
The Avalon Hotel would be easy to miss on a quiet side street. We were lucky to have discovered it while taking a tour of Historic Inns and Hotels by the Palm Springs Historical Society the year before, and decided we needed to stay here.
The breakfasts were amazing and large! We also enjoyed dinner outside by the pool. The heaters work great! We spent lots of time by the fire pit with a glass of proceco. Lovely. Staff is very well trained to make this stay in a small hotel very enjoyable.
We had just an average room facing the mountains, not a bungalow and it was just fine. I believe the rooms will be renovated in 2020.
There are some other Inns nearby....Melvyns for a drink and music is supposed to be a good choice and drinks at the sister property next door is also supposed to be excellent. Next time! This hotel is really in a perfect location to be able to walk to the shopping area of Palm Springs, but yet it is out of the way and very quiet. A better alternative for us, to a big corporate hotel. We will be back!

Dear InUzBe, Thank you for your wonderful 5 Star rating and review! We are so pleased you had a previous visit via the Palm Springs Historic Society walking tour. So nice to know you savored the creations of our Culinary team, while feeling so well cared for by our dedicated colleagues. The historic Ingleside Inn, along with the restaurant Melvyn's, is indeed our sister property. Both the hotel and restaurant are steeped in glamorous history, A very popular must visit while in Palm Springs. Thank you for being with us, and we do hope to welcome you back very soon!

The service was excellent and the location is good, but you can pay less and get a lot more elsewhere in Palm Springs. The room was New York small with flaking paint, a broken side table and a minuscule bathroom. The “closet” was a box that blocked a window. We fortunately didn’t experience the noise problems since we stayed mid-week and our room was at the far edge of the property. But we won’t be back.

Sorry that I cannot be of assistance here. I would call the hotel.
I don't have pictures, but our room was modern and the bed was super comfy. The bathroom had a very large walk in shower only (no tub), and looked pretty new.
We had Premier room and bathroom was very basic, also pictures look better than it is and there is very little hanging space in wardrobes. We had two false doors . We used ironing board to store smaller clothes items
I believe so. Others had their pets
Enjoy
