Yes the hotel is run down, fine. Seeing as you're reading reviews, you're well aware. But if they renovate the property it won't cost $180 for a balcony ON the ocean! Half Moon Bay has plenty of oceanfront rooms with balconies for $300-450. Or $1000 at the Ritz. An oceanfront balcony for $180 is unheard of in the Bay Area.
There were several thoughtful touches to the room, Room 206, which I thoroughly recommend. The hot tub worked perfectly, there was seating on the balcony, the room had 2 trash cans, and they provided toilettries in the bathroom. They also served delicious coffee and Stash teas in the lobby with every choice of sugar/sweetener.
I'd recommend bringing your own
A) pillow(s)
B) surge protector as there's only 1 plug next to each side of the bed
C) yeti/coffee tumbler for bringing more than 10 oz of coffee to your room from the lobby if you want.
There's a stoplight in front of thr hotel to easily cross the 4 lane highway 1, and a waterfront multi use path that runs along the coast through most of Pacifica.
All the other hotels in Pacifica are a 25 min walk over a hill north of Pacifca Beach Hotel. By the other hotels there's a small coarse black sand beach. But at the Pacifica Beach Hotel you're squarely in front of a world class long, wide, sandy crescent beach. It is by far the best location of any Pacifica hotel, if you're coming to enjoy the Ocean.
While in town I thought highlights were
-The beach/waves/ocean
- Walking 25 min each way over the hill along the waterfront path to the Farmer's Market. The hill has STUNNING views of the coast and benches for enjoying.
- A sunset from the best Taco Bell location on earth. It's on the sand at the beach, has a deck with twinkle lights and they sell Lagunitas IPA, Corona and other beers plus spiked and virgin slushies.
- coffee on the balcony of the oceanfront room watching surfers and waves
- Breakfast from Soul Grind Coffee Roasters. Their quiche is insane! And their outdoor patio full of people.
And if you choose to book, have the best time ever!

The service staff was friendly, but they felt they needed to be more welcome, and the location was remarkable. However, the hotel needs repairs and a lot of tender loving care (TLC). The caulking around the bathtub was haphazardly done, and the faucets needed to be fixed. The room was less clean than we would have liked, with carelessly placed linens in the bathroom. We even found dirt on our blanket and hair on some towels. The walls were old and in need of a fresh coat of paint. I tried to talk to the housekeeper lady in the hallway, but she didn't speak English. We went to the store to purchase Lyson for the room to spray.
The bed was extremely comfortable on the plus side, and my boyfriend and I enjoyed it. We love the jacuzzi inside the bedroom. We didn't like to have the preferred occupants in room 1309, who played loud music all night and created a lot of noise. My boyfriend had to leave the room at 2 am and ask them to quiet down because people were trying to sleep. Overall, this place is a 3, and I have no plans to return.
