Staff were friendly and the location great , beach is good for long walks and safe for children and others who can’t swim well as there is no surf.
The actual room is in need of refurbishment.
The shower door didn’t shut and looked like it needed a good renovation all round.
There was grass growing in the roof gutter below our balcony.
And the most disturbing thing was the automatic door closer to the front door to the room ( which is a fire door) had been removed.
This place could be five stars with a little investment.
From check-in to check-out, the staff effortlessly went above and beyond. I arrived in the suite to a lovely hand written card from the staff and a few minutes later the waitress arrived at our door with some bubbles and personally wished me a Happy Birthday.
The room was very comfortable with a large bed, lounge area that had views of the water and beautiful garden, spacious bathroom and was extremely clean, housekeeping is doing a fabulous job.
We dined in the bistro as the restaurant is closed due to covid but they have their formal meals available in there also. The food was amazing, we shared a seafood platter, scallops and crayfish to die for (highly recommend this).
Breakfast was served in our room and we opted to sit out on our balcony, the sound of the waves, the birds singing and delicious eggs, perfect way to start our day.
We look forward to a return visit.
The food is worded and priced as a 5 star establishment but arrives at your table as a cheap pub style meal.
The salad is dressed with a bulk buy kraft italian dressing and the service is appalling, the waitress made an error then raised her voice at me in front of other diners when she stated she had repeated the order to me which she had entered an entree as an entree then the same dish also as a main meal.
The food is very bland and basic, for the location they should be able to source top quality fresh seafood, yet most seemed to be previously frozen.
Such a shame that the restaurant lets down this beautiful establishment.
If I was rating just the food it would be a 1 star.
Having spent close to $100 on lunch we left dissatisfied and with a bad taste in our mouths. Its sad as this place has gigantic potential but the kitchen are letting it down. I dont think I have ever been so disappointed.
1st time we were met by the barman wearing a sequin mask with no hello or how are you… but show me you have checked in otherwise you can’t be in here. I showed him that I had checked in no thank you but “what do you want to drink” I walked for a whiskey Sour and with a roll of the eyes he made it - the glass was only 1/2 full and for $18 I would have expected a full glass?? Check out the Byron Bay hotel same drink $16 full glass! I then asked to see the menu and I got “no food now” I said ok what time does lunch finish to which he said “1”…. It was 2 mins to 1.
Two days later we went back again and met by the same barman saying “show Le you have checked in otherwise you won’t be served” I showed him and I then got “where is your mask” I said oh no I have left it on my caravan, do you have spare ones here otherwise it’s quite a big walk up and back and was a hot day - I got “thanks ok we are not closing for hours”… I walked back got my mask then headed back and ordered the whiskey sour again and was amazed that for $18 you actually only get 1/2 glass!
He once again rolled his eyes when I asked for this.
The good thing was we meant some lovely people who camps there every year and they said the food and service has never been great….. at least it wasn’t just us!
We arrived in the last half-hour of lunch service so not greeted as enthusiastically (I get it), the lunch menu seemed a bit pedestrian for the price, so we settled for drinks.
We were almost alone. It was May but the weather was stunning, the views sublime and it was just us and another table. Boydtown failed because it was too remote.
I was captivated by the place and will return. I could easily imagine the hotel packed to the rafters in the season and diners queuing for a table in the restaurant so I’ll book.
A gorgeous building on the seaside. It was so peaceful. The staff where friendly and accomodating. The rooms where clean.
Breakfast was inuded and delivered to your door each morning.. sitting in our sunny room eating breakfast was the perfect start to the day.
Lovely walk along the beach right on our doorstep
The restaurant was great and food was delicious.
We loved our stay here
