Located in the forest a few miles from Nevada City, it is the perfect balance of seclusion and easy access. The main lodge, originally a very nice home, has been transformed into an exquisite setting. A separate building houses more rooms and we were in #7 which was huge and had a TV (not all rooms have a TV). Furnishings were dated but very comfortable. Melissa was a wonderful host and prepared breakfasts daily. It was very nice to chat with Melissa and other guests in the mornings. Parking was generous and we were told weddings and other large events are frequently held here.

Harmony Ridge Lodge is a must-stay in Nevada City! They recently hosted my brother's wedding, and we stayed on-site for the weekend. The venue was gorgeous, complete with lush greenery, gardens and flowers which add to the natural ambiance.
I can't say enough nice things about the staff. They are warm, friendly and extremely hospitable. Clark made us breakfast each morning, which featured homemade ingredients picked from the garden on-site. Such a pleasant way to start each day!
The rooms are spacious, comfortable and quaint. The aesthetic isn't modern, rather it fits the ambiance of a lodge in this area of California.
Whether for a wedding, retreat or just a weekend getaway, you won't regret staying at Harmony Ridge Lodge.

This is the absolute best place to stay handsdown! I have traveled so many places and this beats them all! The customer service is the best. These people go out of the way to help make you feel at home. Beautiful and extra clean. Even there towels smelled amaizing! Very impressed. Very quiet and relaxing. Good breakfast and beautiful views. Could not ask for a better experience.

Attended a wedding at this location. First let me say, most of all the photos shown for Harmony Ridge are OLD. There is NO grass, it's turf, there is no covering on the deck, all of the greenery has been removed around the wedding arch and beyond the deck. I didn't see any pictures that resemble what Harmony Ridge looks like present day. It's still lovely and very pleasant for a wedding or event but be prepared. NOW, for the main review. A friends wedding in which they paid top dollar, booked well in advance, for whole location, lodge included, for entire weekend of wedding. Informed the day of wedding, decorating going in and out of the Lodge that we had to keep door closed and NOT let the CAT out! No prior mention of any cat and now we had to monitor and not let it out! Friday night realized many of the outdoor lights DID NOT work, seems those should have been attended to before our arrival, yet we had to ask they be replaced day of wedding. Approx 2 hrs it took for them to be fixed so no, it wasn't just a couple bulbs. Wedding party was informed upon arrival that they had to be out Sunday at 11am due to another event booked. No prior communication of this was given, it wasn't until arrival on Friday the venue mentioned it. This was not what had originally been told. Their lack of communication is very frustrating. Last, seems things are not being kept up, repairs, painting, decor, and just common things to make it what is once was have fallen to the wayside. It's disappointing. AND yes the 2 breakfast meats per person is completely off putting! Do better Harmon Ridge.

After reading all of the reviews, we were very excited to stay at the Harmony Ridge Lodge for a special birthday weekend, However, we were sorely disappointed! From the lukewarm reception to the shabby rooms our first impression was not good. The furniture was dated and mismatched, carpet industrial, linens cheap. Certainly nothing like the picture on this ad. I thought, “Well, at least we have a great breakfast to look forward to!” We were served cold pancakes with industrial sized syrup in its plastic container, half sausages and bacon ( told to only take two pieces), hard boiled eggs and yogurt. It was Comfort Inn fare, not breakfast to order as stated in one review. I don’t know if this was an off weekend or they had a temporary host/chef, but based on my stay I would not recommend this lodge.

The rooms were spot less. Great areas to take your four legged friends for a walk. We plan to book another trip here Prices are great. Served breakfast which we took to our room. Would recommend this to all.

It is truly tragic that such a beautiful venue can have such a horribly inept, rude and unprofessional management and staff.
My family of 20 people reserved and paid for 6 rooms for 3 days so that we could gather in honor of my father whose funeral service we were attending. Since we no longer have a family home in the area we decided to come together for the first time in many years – daughters, son, spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren – so that we could have time to be together. It was to be a celebration of my father’s life.
Although the rooms were paid for and confirmed a month before the memorial, we were told upon arrival that ‘unfortunately’ we would have to give up some of our rooms because they overbooked!
How do you overbook an inn with 8 rooms and find out the afternoon of everyone’s arrival?? AND WHY DID WE NEED TO GIVE UP OUR ROOMS!???? (I believe this does bring up some legal issues about eviction and contract breech). I think everyone was just shell-shocked so we just acquiesced instead of making a huge stink during a time that was supposed to be an event respectful of my father and a joyful connection with our family.
The morning of my father’s funeral, 3 family members had to move out of their room to accommodate the error of the management!! That same morning 3 of our family members arrived for breakfast at 8:45 to find that all the breakfast had been put away. When they asked about it, management told them that breakfast ended at 9:30. When it was pointed out that it was only 8:45 management shrugged and said – Oh, we thought everyone had eaten already.
Next morning the second group of family members (including an infant) were told they needed to vacate their room for the other guests. (‘Are you out yet?’ says the cleaning staff) Again…a room we reserved, paid for and were staying in.
Because we were trying to be together, displaced family members slept on floors.
Aside from these egregious errors, basic courtesies were never extended to anyone in our group. Never once did I hear a ‘good morning’, ‘how was your night?’, ‘is there anything we can get you?’. Typically we were greeted with the manager’s back while she buttered her own toast or with a ‘put upon’ face that felt like we were inconveniencing her by our presence.
The “Great Room” was off limits after 6:30 so we gathered as a family in the “Conference Room” so we could eat together, play games, talk and sing Christmas carols. We had to make a special request just to get a broom, garbage bags and cloth so we could clean up our own mess (which was not even that large for a group of 20 people).
There was no room service during our stay (maybe this is typical?) so my husband, two children and I had two towels to share for three days. I didn’t bother asking for more at that point. The trash cans were never emptied, beds never made.
The list goes on, but it would be like beating a dead horse so I will end with saying – “BUYER BEWARE”. If you want to have a wedding here – be cautious and don’t expect classy service or even hospitable service.

Hi Nancy, We are sorry that our venue did not meet you personal expectations. We did our best to fit your family into our facility during a busy time between Christmas and New Years, when we have many bookings. At our venue we book 20-30 groups each year including families, weddings, yoga groups, and quilters. 99 percent of the time our guests are satisfied. If you would like to give us a call on January 18th we are happy to see if we can have you up again and have you here to enjoy the place. Wishing you and your family a Happy and Healthy New Year. Best Regards, The staff at Harmony Ridge Lodge

We reserved a one night's stay to celebrate our anniversary. I had hoped to reserve 2 nights, but only one night was available upon booking. We arrived at 3pm to the beautiful grounds and the design of the lodge. When we walked through the front door, we were greeted by the beautiful centerpiece of glass pumpkins and a guest book to the left of the entryway with a note stating to ring the bell for assistance. We did, and a lady called out from the kitchen for us to go over there. There was no warm greeting. The person working the check-in stated that she was filling in for the main person who was showing some prospective event guests around the property. She did not seem happy to be there. Rather than a "Welcome" or a "Thank you for staying with us", she said that most likely our room was not ready because they were still cleaning from the wedding the night before. The floors of the kitchen and the top of the registration table were sticky. As it turned out, we were glad to hear that the room was ready because we had been hiking all morning and were ready to relax! We were given one of the two room keys and were escorted to our room. The room was beautifully spacious, nicely decorated, and the furnishings and linens were of quality.
The housekeeping and maintenance could be improved. Grout in the tiles were in need of repair, and the shower curtain looked as if it had never been cleaned. There was orange colored mildew all along the bottom of the curtain and the clear rubber mat provided was brownish-grey. The coffee maker had not been cleaned and still contained the filter and coffee from the previous guests, and the clear red glass, night stand lamps were dusty. The king sized bed was very comfortable.
The next morning, breakfast was served in the dining room. It was very tasty, but again, there was no "Good morning" or any other greeting from the gal working that morning. There was a sign telling guests that they were not allowed in the kitchen. It could have been worded with a little more tact.
We hiked the trail head to Scott's Flat Lake, which is accessible directly from the Lodge. I arrived back earlier than my husband and asked if I could use the extra key to let myself into the room. She replied "Make sure you bring it back with your other key". Hmmm. . . how nice! Upon checking out and handing her back the keys, there was no "Thank you", but rather, "Did you pay?"
If you don't mind giving your $$$ to an establishment that doesn't seem to appreciate your business, then this place is fine. It is peaceful, dog friendly, and the rooms are very nice. I am glad that we stayed here for only 1 night. The place is advertised as a B&B, but this is not your typical, friendly B&B. Most hotels offer better service.

Dear Ann, It is disappointing to hear that our staff did not treat you with the high quality service that we pride ourselves on. There is no excuse for the service you received. Be assured that this is taken very seriously, as the staff is just as much as a part of your experience as the rest of the lodge. We appreciate you taking the time to write this review and giving us the chance to fix these mistakes. I hope that the next time you visit Nevada City you will give us the opportunity to make it right.

My daughter got married at the Empire Mine State Park in Grass Valley. We rented all the rooms for some of our families and friends. Everybody just loved it and raved about the breakfast, the beautiful decorated and generous sized rooms, the setting and the Inn keepers. The setting is just beautiful.
