This is a small motel that is keeping up with the times. While the bathroom was a bit dated (but perfectly functional -- nice shower!), the hardwood floors looked brand new, and the room was secured with a numeric-code lock -- you received the code by text when your rental starts. Very comfortable bed. All the rooms have unique decor -- a nice touch. There's even a vintage RV if you want a '60s experience. The owners are a nice couple who will bend over backwards to provide for any wants. I would definitely stay again and would encourage you to come, as long as you're not looking for Hampton Inn sterility.

We had concert tix for a show in Grass Valley. We checked in at 3P, greeted by one of the new owners, Sham. He was quite friendly.
We walked around Nevada City (a three minute walk to Downtown!) and walked along the Deer Creek Tribute Trail to the gorgeous suspension walking bridge called the Nisenan Tribute Bridge or “Anqkula Seo." My mind was blown by the winter gorgeousness.
The room was cozy and charming. It's not bougie at all. It's sweet, comfortable, homey, and old-timey. The bedding was wonderful (and smelled good!), and the beds were just right—neither too firm nor too soft. The water pressure of the shower was delicious (and as a native Californian—sinfully strong). The water tastes divine. The heating in the room was fast and easy to adjust.
Upon checkout I spoke with Sham and Gita, thanking them. Gita is as warm as Sham. They’re new(ish) owners. The only feedback I have is that when they can—they should do a thorough check out of the cafes and restaurants in town so they can give firsthand guidance to local places.
I’ll stay again for sure.

This place is the best. The rooms are so quirky and fun, the location is perfect, walking distance to downtown NC and a 4 minute drive from the SPD market. The new owners upgraded after purchasing last year and have done a great job in keeping the place quirky and fun while bringing in new beds. They provide dish soap and dishes, a great help when you're trying to keep travel light. The pool is perfect on a hot hot morning. I'll be back next year!

We had a wonderful time at the Outside Inn. We stayed in Room 6, the rock climbing room. It was spacious, clean, comfortable, and very quiet. We loved the tiny kitchen and outside seating area. The pool was warm enough and such a relief as were were there during a heatwave. The shower had excellent pressure. We have a thing about smells. We don't like a lot of 'fresheners' or perfumes. This place did not have any scented stuff. The room was very clean and fresh, not scented to appear clean. The location is superb for walking into town to explore and eat. I especially loved that Room six had its own dedicated reserved parking space right in front of the room.

What a delightful and charming place to stay. We booked a last minute room to find a place where we would just be comfortable hanging around and hiking, walking through town. This hit all the checkmarks for us. The room was large and quite comfortable. We slept very well on the beds, the mattresses are slightly on the firmer side, which is what we like. The hotel is older, but fixed up enough to not feel like you are in a 1960's motel. The kitchenette had a small fridge, coffee maker, microwave and two burner stove-top with a tea kettle. There are a few pots and pans, coffee mugs, plates and bowls, wine-glasses and utensils, but no forks or spoons, but luckily we brought our own.
We really enjoyed the grounds and sat outside our room each night to have a drink and enjoy the evening air. It was a little bit buggy this time of year, but the patio was inviting and they have an area for you to bbq and picnic tables if you want to spreadout and have meal on the grass. Wifi, was good and we were in one of the farther rooms away from the lobby, room 6, the room with the climbing wall.
Water flow in the shower was good and the shower was quick to provide hot water, but the drain was very slow to drain, about the only issue we had and this was quite minor in our book. The host, Sam and Gity were so friendly and welcoming. It is an easy walk to several hikes nearby. There are gentle hikes 3-4 miles in length. You can do the Deer Creek Tribute trail from the room or Hirshman's pool, both are really lovely, We did drive to the trail head of Hirshman's pool, but it is walkable to there. The owners can give advice on where to go.
The location is like an 8 minute walk to the center of Nevada City, which has ample charming and varied restaurants, pubs and shops to explore. So nice to be able to walk to a place to eat and then stroll home in the warm evening air. The best market nearby is the SPD Market, which is well stocked, makes great sandwiches and is about a 5 minute drive from the hotel.
We live in the Bay Area and to have a place that is 2 hours away that is a miniparadise is so fantastic. Can't believe we have never been here before. We fore sure will be back. Besides the drive up gives us an excuse to stop by Ikeda's market in Auburn. We were 100% satisfied with our stay and the accommodations!

This is our second visit to the Outside Inn. It's very cute. The owners are friendly and helpful. Room 6 worked out for me as a wheelchair user, but it required moving the very heavy bed. As you will see in the photos I am posting, it's possible to get a wheelchair under the bathroom counter. There is one grab bar in by the bathtub and one by the toilet.
I found the bed to be comfortable. There are plenty of pillows. There's also a pull-out couch. There's as kitchenette with a cooktop, microwave, mini fridge, and plates, pots, silverware, etc.
There are picnic tables and a small pool.
The location is near downtown Nevada City, which has lots of restaurants and shops.
We plan to stay here whenever we're in town. : )

The Outside Inn is in a great location for visiting Nevada City. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Everything worked well, and the interiors are much nicer than you might think from a first glance at the exterior. A few negatives: the HVAC unit during our last stay was a bit loud, and the kitchen utensils a bit sparse. It would be nice to have a level 2 EV charger on site. We would have stayed here more often if we could have made a one-night booking on a non-holiday, off-season weekend. All in all it's our first choice for lodging in NC.

This small motel complex is in a good, quiet, residential location, with the downtown historic district being a reasonable 15 minute walk down East Main Street. It offers convenient front door parking, a small pool, and outside social grounds conducive to small group meets.
Covid changed the check-in and out procedures, but it was smooth and easy just the same, helped by having door access via a combination that was texted to me the morning of arrival.
The rooms vary, and I chose the cheapest queen bed room available on Booking.com for a 2 night stay. My Autumn #2 room (shown on the booking website) was clean, bug free, and well outfitted with amenities, including an iron, board, hair dryer, toiletries, coffee maker, small fridge, closet, hangers, rocking chair, excellent towels, and good bedding. The TV, wifi, AC, and heat all worked well - though the AC had a rattle problem after running for a few minutes.
Being an old motor motel with cottage like interiors, my room had noticeable flaws affecting the rating: 1) the room was quite small, offering minimal floor space for even one person, yet alone two, 2) the shower stall was quite small, making simple washing movements restrictive, 3) there was no mirror above the sink, making shaving a messy affair using the side wall mirror, 4) the cloth drapes didn't cover all of the window, allowing people to easily peep into the room, 5) there was no sit down desk to do any work or to eat, 6) the rocking chair arm was broken, and 7) outside guest talk and morning prep noise permeated the room extensively.
Others clearly think this motel is quaint and charming, with good service and proper care being given to it that warrants a high rating. I agree with the two premises, but I think the rooms, aside from the plush towels, are older, smaller, and less nice than most motel/hotel places I find elsewhere for far less than $120 a night. In short, 3 stars is a more honest assessment of this place - at least for the room I had. However, given the high lodging costs of this rich little town, I suspect that this motel is the best value option to be found. For anyone wanting to stay in the area that wants the best budget option available, I'd recommend this place.

It's Halloween @ the Outside Inn!! This place is perfect and so adorable.
I was on a me, myself, & I trip this week and booked 2 nights here. Loved my stay in room 3 1/2, yep a half room, lol. Rooms are all themed mine being 'Outside In' with puffy clouds on sky walls, twin beds. Even at 70 I felt like a kid on an adventure :)
Room was immaculately clean & fresh with everything you'd want in a room, frig, coffee, hair dryer, iron. Bathroom had great lighting, shower had lots of hot water with plenty of pressure, a shower curtain long & wide enough so no water could escape (who knew that existed). There is a cute shed with ice machine, & a laundry room. Who does laundry on a vaca, not me, but there for those who do;)
You can do contactless check in, but the staff is there and are very friendly & helpful. The grounds are delightful, and the walk to town is about 3 blocks through a quaint neighborhood.
Love this place, would definitely recommend.

Love that you're embracing the fun of a solo adventure, Halloween decor and all. 3 1/2 was a garage back in the day of the motor court days, so it's fun to turn it into a room. Thanks for the shout out to the laundry, but just so you know, that's unfortunately just for staff, as we do all our own linens at the motel. But we can happily recommend a local laundromat for any future guests.

Our family decided to stop in Nevada City on the way home from a trip to Tahoe. We wanted one last day of vacation and to the explore the cute town.
The proprietors of the Outside Inn were friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. They recommended a cute Thai restaurant for dinner within walking distance of the Inn as well as a hiking trail and river spots to visit the next day.
The Inn itself was functional, well-kept and quaint. The attention to detail in the design of the rooms as well as the landscaping was on point. We would most certainly stay again! Thank you for a great stay!

Greetings-- The Cabin definitely has room to walk around the king sized bed, there is a bed side table on either side of the bed, plus additional space. Thanks for asking. The room that Laura is talking about is either 8, 9 or 11 which have a twin bed in the alcove and you can access the bed, but not walk all the way around the bed.
There are more places to choose from in the Nevada City area.
