Full service campground with pitch your own tent sites, RV hook ups and glamping tents in downtown Nevada City, California. The family owned and operated campground was built by Erin & Dan Thiem, opened for business in July, 2016. Campground amenities include: 3000 square foot communal building with kitchen, living room, dining area, camp store, laundry, bathrooms with showers, seasonal swimming pool. We offer outdoor movie screenings (weather permitting). Located within Nevada City city limits, it's a 25 minute walk to historic Gold Rush downtown of Nevada City and next door to the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Museum. For outdoor lovers you can drive 15 minutes and soak in the South Yuba River, hike the Deer Creek Tribute Trail or go mountain biking in the Tahoe National Forest. With a range of accommodations we offer camping options while creating a community feel.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
Such a beautiful, clean, well-maintained campground in a great location next to Nevada City! Nice forested setting with tall pines. We camped in one of the full-hookup RV sites but tent sites and cabins look nice as well. No wood campfires allowed which is plus as far as we are concerned, not getting smoked out by campfires. I think they’ll provide a propane fire pit (for a fee) for those who want the campfire experience. Staff was friendly and helpful. Seems like a great place for families, without any of the “party” activity that we have encountered at some campgrounds. We will return.

We had a wonderful 3 nights at ITC. We were in a trailer spot next to our friends…..under the trees with full hook ups. The campground was decorated for Halloween. We enjoyed taking walks and looking at the decorations. Although we didn’t need to use the shower or bathrooms we did take a look. They were immaculately clean throughout our stay. They also had a common grilling area for tent campers or glampers along with a very clean outdoor sink area complete with scrub brushes and dish soap. The quiet time was enforced in that camp staff drove around in golf carts checking in on campers. This is always appreciated. Nevada city and Grass Valley are minutes away with good shopping and restaurants. Two thumbs up….we will definitely be back.

My friend and I stayed for one night in a tent site while passing through the area. I was very impressed by cleanliness, layout, pricing, location, covid protocol and Halloween decorations that were up on October 1! The bathrooms were sparkling clean and showers were available. My friend and I were bummed that we didn't have time to stay and use the pool. They had a kitchen for the campers use and a movie night going on. I am not use to seeing so many amenities for the price they charge. Our campsite was situated where we didn't see other campers and we felt more isolated in nature than we do at most campgrounds. Our site was right next to a short-cut into town. The walk to downtown was only about 0.5 miles, opposed to 1.5 miles shown on Google Maps. Erin gave us a list of the best places for First Friday, which we really appreciated. The next morning, Dan suggested the farmer's market and swimming holes along our drive. The owners are connected to their community and are a wealth of knowledge; they can definitely steer you in a direction to maximize your stay.

The location was great which is why we booked a second visit for 3 nights. We spent quite a bit of time on the phone determining if there was a site that could fit 2 vans. We were advised that #39 was level and big enough for our needs. What they didn't say was it was where the walk in tent area parks and thus we were pretty tightly packed in. We had people coming into our site to use the only water spigot serving the area. But the worst was all the junk we were parked next to. We were offered two other sites for an additional $150 on top of the $230 already paid. When asked why the junk was there, they said a shed had blown over in December and in the 5 months following they had failed to remedy. They told me to turn the chairs the other way! One of the other tent occupants was initially blocking our car from exiting. When she got out, she exclaimed "what is all this junk doing here?" We were 3 vans altogether and I have recommended others stay here but no longer.

Hello and thank you for your candid feedback. As many will attest to, we generally keep a very clean and orderly campground, from our bathrooms and facilities, to the sites themselves…but obviously not in this case. The area you’re referring to is our off-season staging area. Yes, many of those items were covered by a carport that was destroyed in a storm. It is a small portion of camp and the views from your site for the other 320 degrees of view are of a clean, well maintained forest. I’m sorry for the view, but am surprised you chose to focus on it exclusively. As for why the staging area and carport were not fixed since that storm, it’s because the storm also caused a significant amount of other damage: - 4 destroyed Glamping tents had to be rebuilt - 18 large, dead ponderosa pines had to be felled and cleaned up - dozens of smaller trees that cracked, broke or fell over had to be cleaned up - our road had to be regraded from all of the damage caused by falling trees - 5 picnic tables had to be rebuilt - a sewer pipe had to be dug up and fixed after a tree cracked it - I ordered a replacement carport…months ago. Still not here. All of these things take time, money and (wo)manpower, and quite frankly I am really proud of how well our crew did to get camp operational by this season. We honestly had doubts we could do so after the amount of damage. Unfortunately we had not gotten to our staging area when you arrived. However, you’ll be glad to know that we have now constructed a temporary screening fence for the area based on your persistent, and clear feedback during your stay. We are not perfect and our campground is not perfect, but we think we get pretty darn close a lot of the time. Having said that, I hope you head off on your next adventure with a little more patience for the monumental effort it takes to maintain and operate a campground. Our staff work VERY hard to do so here, so if cutting them a little slack for a small area of maintenance debris is too much to ask, maybe turning your chair around to see the amazing view behind you, might be a good alternative. As they say, “don’t miss the forest for the trees”. -Dan, owner

This is the second time I've had the pleasure of staying at Inn Town. Both experiences have been in the glamping tents; they are nicely appointed and, being November, the heated blankets were MUCH appreciated. We finally had opportunity to use the common kitchen, dining, and living areas and they were awesome. The kitchen is extremely well stocked and it was nice to have a fire nearly always burning in the living common area. It's also very nice being walking distance "to town" with lots of stuff to see and do while there (and it's a short drive to lots of other stuff too). Definitely looking forward to a return visit.

Thanks, so glad you got to enjoy some of the Nevada City fall colors on this visit too. The communal space is nice when the days are shorter and you still want to hang out with friends and family-- and yes, we do make sure that the guests can use the wood burning fireplace in the living room *but the gas fire pits outside are also a nice bonus with the longer evenings.

This is our second visit and won't be the last. The campground is so clean and well-maintained. I'm not used to finding clean bathrooms and showers in these spaces. It's really wonderful that the store is attached to a fully stocked common room with a kitchen and dining tables. We loved our heated mattress pads in the glamping tents and the owner even put up a cot for no extra cost since our 3 kids were fitting into 1 queen bed. The outdoor movie is such a nice touch. I loved letting my kids zoom around on their scooters and felt safe the whole time. Camp sites along tracks are best for privacy and there's a great hike to an old garden and bridge over a creek along the train tracks. I'm already looking to book another stay this summer.

The first time my family and I visited the Inntown Campground was in 2018. We were her first to stay in their Riverside Retro Trailer. This year we were fortunate enough to return with our own trailer. The campground recently celebrated their five year anniversary and you would be able to tell that the facility is that old. It looks the same as it did when we visited three years ago. No signs of wear and tear. No holes in the drywall, painted over graffiti or damaged walkways. At nine pm, when it is quiet time, the camp host goes around and “politely” asks the noise makers to keep it down. The campground is excellent. From the community room/kitchen where you can refrigerate and cook your own meals to the out door dish washing stations complete with soap and sponges. The restrooms are clean and the showers have pressure and good hot water. They even have move night where the kids can line up every morning to select the move. I cannot wait till we get the chance to go back!

This year was the 2nd year we've stayed here and while the campground is really nice as are their glamping tents, their customer service is terrible! They messed up our reservation and didn't do anything for us aside from admitting they messed it up. I booked a glamping tent (#13 after speaking to them about where our friends were all staying) back in May and they accidentally booked us an rv spot instead. We don't have an rv so when we got there (we came up a day earlier than our all our friends whom we were going to camp with) they acknowledged they made a mistake and that they did have a glamping tent that night, but were booked for the rest of the stay so we were on our own to go find a hotel room away from camp where all our friends were. They did not discount our one night there and instead canceled our rv spot that were were charged $60/night for and charged us $99 for the one night in the glamping tent. Then we were left to find a hotel and most were full due to the Hangtown festival so we ended up in a gross hotel for $150 a night because that's all that was available and had to drive to the campground to hang out with our friends. They told us we'd be the first ones called if a glamping tent opened up due to a cancelation and we even checked in with them at the office and they said nothing canceled, which wasn't true. One our friends who had reserved a glamping tent texted us that they had canceled and they weren't coming up and that the campground wouldn't refund their money so they must've taken their money and then re-rented it, only never notified us like that said they would if something canceled. Really displeased by the horrible way they handled this. They should've at least reduced our one night stay. There's least 7 couples that stay here yearly and they were all very disappointed and thought they handled it really poorly. They said they were disappointed with their stay last year as well so will be rethinking this as an annual place for a quick getaway.

Hello Stacey and thank you for your account of your visit. You booked your reservation in May, as mentioned, over the phone. We booked you into the site you requested, which was an RV site. If this was a mistake, we are sorry, but that mistake was not brought to our attention. We send four different emails confirming your reservation. Two are sent on the day of booking (one is a confirmation, the other is a receipt for payment), plus you also received an email 10 days before arrival, and again 4 days before arrival. So, you received 4 different emails with your reservation details. At no time did you contact us saying that your reservation was incorrect. So, although it is possible (although not necessary guaranteed) we may have made a mistake at the time of booking, you did not review your reservation four different times, or contact us to let us know you were in the wrong site. The point of a confirmation is to verify the details of your reservation. Mistakes happen, both by our staff and by campers. As for accommodating you during your stay, we did have a glamping tent for your first night, we applied the already paid amount from your RV spot reservation to that night and refunded the difference. Given the four separate emails we provided to confirm the details of your reservations (none of which you replied to or indicated were incorrect), we thought this was a fair compromise. Our normal cancellation terms would not have allowed for any refund. As you noted, we did not have a glamping tent available for Friday night so we could only accommodate you for Thursday. Finally, we did not have a cancellation for a glamping tent for the weekend. Another camper called on the day of arrival (this was Friday) and said they were probably not coming because it might rain and they didn't want their dogs to get wet. We asked if they had anyone they wanted to give the site to, they said no, but would ask around (we did not know they were part of your group and the certainly never mentioned your name). After the office closed, they left a message saying they had someone who wanted to use the Glamping tent on Friday and would call in the morning. The next morning (Saturday) those same guests called again and said their friends were not going to stay in the tent. At that point we held the tent for them anyway in case they wanted to come up. After all, it hadn't rained at all and was a nice fall day. That was the last communication we had from those campers. At no point in those conversations did the guests from that glamping tent mention your name or that you would want to stay in the tent. We do not - EVER - give away a site unless the guests in that site authorize it and provide us with the name and contact information of the person taking the site. We have this policy for security reasons and because many times people change their minds and decide to use a site they initially didn't want. Overall, this sounds like a great big miscommunication, between ITC and you and between you and your group. It is possible our staff booked the wrong site; it is also possible that you booked the wrong site. I don't know for sure, however you also didn't check any of your confirmations. We tried to accommodate you in the best way we could given the information and availability we had at the time. Clearly we didn't meet your expectations. I apologize for that. As for your group, I will reach out to them individually to see if you speak for them and their dissatisfaction. I hope you have talked with them before airing your grievances in such a public way. Best for the winter and I hope you find a place to camp that you like. Please check your confirmation when you book with them. -Dan

We did a two night stay with a group of 9 people ages 5-75! We stayed in two tent sites and one pair had a glamping cabin. Everything was fantastic- clean restrooms and campground, beautiful views and scenery, respectful and quiet campers throughout the campground. I appreciated that the campground director was on site in the evenings and did regular patrols to ensure folks were following quiet hours. We stayed at another campground where this was not the case and sleeping was a nightmare!
We also enjoyed the nearby railroad museum, which neighbors the campground. Inn Town Campground was a very pleasant and fun experience !

Fourth time staying at this lovely & well-curated campground. An amazing treed property hidden near downtown Nevada City; you can’t believe you’re just a mile from historic Broad Street. My favorite owl put in a brief appearance. Little mountain dogwood trees reach for the sky between the tall cedars & pines, and are soon to bear floppy white bracts. I’m a self-contained camper, but Inn Town Campground has great ‘mod cons,’ including clean bathrooms, hot showers, a camp store, an adjacent railroad museum, a commons area, even outdoor movies some nights. (quietly staged.) I’ll be back!
