We were pleasantly surprised by room, it was very clean and looked recently refurbished.
The soap and shampoo packet are basic, you get one toilet roll and toilet blocks easily. However bed was comfortable and the aircon worked and heir us cool, probably too cool at night as you only get one sheet and a throw which is as thin as paper.
Needles is one of the hottest places in the US and the ice machine wasn't working and looked like it hadn't been in a long while.
Also the pool which would have been inviting on a hot day (118 when we were there) looked like it had not been cleaned/services since the 70's a real shame.
Needles itself has seen better days, it's such a shame that the interstate has made old Route 66 places bankrupt but it is necessary for quick travel. Most of the places in the town are derelict even the wagon wheel shop is quite sorrowful.
Not a place we felt comfortable at night going to get bottled water.
With a bit of TLC, a working ice machine and pool and a little decoration (maybe Route 66 stylee?!) this place would be great and could maybe charge a bit more.
However for $44 you get what you pay for.
We arrived at Desert Mirage Inn and Suites in Needles CA at 11:45pm, rang the buzzer and out emerged a small little man with an accent. We also saw the sign that others mentioned in other reviews: no drugs, no fighting, etc hand written and taped to the wall behind him. It was literally like a movie. He said, "You woke me up!" and asked for my ID.
After he checked us in he pointed to my husband to get in the car and said something about me and him walking over to the room. I am ashamed to admit, my gut was telling me to run. But it was almost midnight, we were tired and we just needed a rest for us and our dogs.
He let us in the room with the "big, big TV!" My husband noticed the plexiglass windows. The small man pointed out that there was no sink faucets and that we could brush our teeth in the bathtub. I couldn't see how I would be able to take off my shoes. Again, I ignored my gut. Even our two dogs seemed to be concerned about a spot by the bathroom because they kept sniffing it. Yuk.
The towels were thread bare, cigarettes on the comforter, dirty pillows (I had my own) and the bathtub looked like it had not been cleaned.
It was seriously like out of a movie. My husband said he kept himself wrapped around me all night because he kept hearing people outside our plexiglass windows. The next morning, he was approached by homeless people. We walked our dogs in the hotel mud (advertised as green grass on the fake website) and never looked back.
Never never stay in this hotel. And like us, Let's Never Talk About This Again.
This hotel is a nightmare. If I could give it zero stars, I would.
Not that much to say to complete the review: stay away from it.
