Boutique hotel with interesting antique furniture and decor. We had a very small room with basically just a bed but had a decent sized bathroom. Very friendly, accommodating, and helpful staff. Good location with restaurants and bars nearby, quick walk to old fisherman's wharf. Not super close to aquarium but pretty quick drive there.

Thank you so much for your review and your time. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the furniture and decor. I do apologize for the "quaintness" of the room. We are adding onto the 112-year old hotel with some improvements such as larger rooms, a fitness room, a new elevator (working now). I especially want to thank you for...

Good without an elevator... great with the large new elevator installed last week! We love the convenient downtown location and antique ambiance... though they now also have a new section with brand new rooms... finished last week. Every modern convenience that we can desire... but with the relaxing feeling of the past. Tina made certain that we got the room...

Right from the start, we loved our stay at the Monterey Hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful - we felt right at home immediately. The Hotel is over one hundred years old, and although it has been very nicely renovated sometime recently, it still has that old charm to it. Our room and marble-floored bathroom were very clean....

The hotel is old but comfortable. The bathrooms are probably the best feature in the rooms. They're clean, great water pressure and large enough you don't feel claustrophobic. All very good things for an old hotel! You can easily walk to the wharf (.5 miles) and cannery row (1.5) and it's a beautiful walk along the waterfront on the scenic...

This is a great hotel in central Monterey, easily walking distance from the major attractions (whale-watching, aquarium, restaurants, fisherman's warf, etc.). It has old charm but with modern amenities and comfort.

This hotel was located in the shops and restaurant part of Monterey – less convenient for the aquarium and wharf but still a really nice area. We got it on a deal, but even so it was quite expensive and I would say not worth the money. We paid to upgrade to the "fireplace suite". The room was slightly shabby...

Our sincerest apologies that you felt your stay and accommodations were not worth the money. I would be happy to refund your upgrade fee and discuss further how we can compensate you for what seems was stay not in keeping with what we strive for. In regard to our pastries, we do use a local bakery for all of our...

This hotel definitely has a Victorian charm in terms of decor and furniture. Our room was comfortable and clean. The walls and windows are thin so you can hear people on street or the person snoring next door as we did. The ear plugs provided by the hotel definitely helped. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The breakfast was...

We only spent one night at the Monterey hotel and what a shame! It was a nice, clean property that is centrally located near a ton of restaurants. Chelsea greeted us and was very personable and kind. She definitely made our stay by upgrading us to a suite and sending us chocolates. It was a nice gesture. Rooms are clean...

Should have been concerned when checking in found notice in room "sound proofing had not been invented yet". Elevator was not working, lack of proper furnishings in very crowded room to make guests comfortable, and City of Monterey leaf blowing employees start at 6am! When this occurs daily after trying to sleep through the music and noise from the next...

We stayed here for 3 nights in early December. The location is just a short walk to Fisherman's Wharf and the ocean. In the early morning you could hear the harbour seals. We had a nice room with a king bed, fireplace and a view of the bay. It's about a 30 minute walk to the aquarium with about half...
