Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This hotel is right on Cannery Row! Prime location and excellent service. We called the front desk because we arrived early and Madeline let us check in early and put us in a great room with a great view. Also, Christian kindly helped us to our room and handled our luggage with care. He let us know about some great events that are happening in the area. Can’t wait to be back to check it out. Thank you!

Hotel's Favourite
The InterContinental Clement Monterey made our trip down the coast phenomenal. We sprang for an upgraded room overlooking the water which made the visit wonderfully authentic. We opened the door, let the Pacific air in, listened to the gulls and the seals and felt like John Steinbeck set the scene. The hotel team was extremely engaged...always jumping in to serve and knowledgeable of the area. The amenities were well thought out (binoculars in the room were an especially good touch). The breakfast in the restaurant was bright, airy and delicious (the Chilaquiles were over the top). This is a well run hotel that should be the travelers only choice when traveling through Monterey.

This is a great hotel. Nice staff, great location, clean rooms that are spicer than most and very comfortable. The restaurant was my only problem. Don’t fall for the bottled water stunt when your waiter arrives. It’ll cost you $14 and it is not on the menu. You get asked for sparkling or still…..not tap. It all happened so fast. Left me with a bad taste.

My husband and I spend our honeymoon vacation here. The hotel located at Cannery Row, walking distance to Aquarium and the Monterey Bay. we got an upgraded ocean-view room and warm welcome from hotel staff which made this visit spectacular! The hotel's elegant design, combined with its top-notch amenities, beds and pillows comfortable, bathroom designed and maintained nicely, made for a truly relaxing and enjoyable experience. With its convenient location and outstanding service, InterContinental has quickly become my go-to choice for accommodations whenever I travel to the area. 5 star!

The Clement Monterey Intercontinental is way overrated and overpriced. It has a fantastic location on Monterey Bay, for which you pay. It is also in the middle of Cannery Row which is unpleasantly tourist-ridden so that you can barely walk down the street. The Monterey Aquarium is a short walk and there's a great walking path along the ocean to Pacific Grove. Parking is tricky so many will submit to the $45/day parking at the hotel. The rooms are nice but barely luxury. They allow pets which is great but which restricts you to the rooms in Building B (the building where pets are allowed) on the other side of the street away from the ocean. I tend to think the rooms in the main building are nicer but I don't know. The website states a $100 pet fee per stay applies but upon checking in I was told the fee is $75/day. They really should fix that.

Airport is very cute, and Monterey is 10 minutes away by Uber or taxi. Check in smooth. Check out smooth. All in between very nice. This is one nice Intercontinental. We flew down to Monterey for the weekend. Wife wanted to try the Clement. In between: nice room, fairly recently remodeled. We got a room with a fireplace, that worked to actually provided a nice source of heat. Beds and pillows comfortable. Bathroom designed and maintained nicely. Artwork tastefully selected. Breakfast menu limited but you can only eat one entree at a time anyway right, plus the two days we used it our selections were worthy of taste praise. Presentation excellent, not overdone. Service impeccable. Maintenance had to be called for service, which they did while we were touristing. Fixed the problem without a hint of maintenance being there. Lunch selection abound in the area just minutes form the hotel. Same for dinner. We uber-ed to Carmel for late lunch one day, lunched the next day near the hotel at a local Mexican Food, dinnered first day next day; all of which I will separately review. Workout area nice, with a bathroom and shower. A lapping pool for your swimming enthusiasts. I guess the hotel is in the tourist zone, and the distance to the airport makes it a very intriguing place to list as one of my favorites. As mentioned, the hotel is not over-done - go see their gift store as an example you will see what I mean. Aquarium which we did not go is walking distance. There is a trail behind the hotel that goes from the Aquarium area to the fisherman's wharf/port area. There is a Christmas market open (at least on Saturday). We took uber to Carmel, but when we were walking around, looking for a landmark to catch uber, a bus with a sign that said Monterey/Salinas showed up, and I asked the driver if the bus was going to Monterey Cannery area, he said the bus got to Monterrey but only to the Bus Transfer area. He said two dollars/person... and he gave us transfer slips (to get to cannery need to transfer to JAZZA or JAZZB he said)... Bus clean and comfortable. Transfer zone, we just decide to walk to hotel. That is how we found the Christmas market. Bus service in Monterey makes our home town to shame. Saw buses running around all the time. Monterey has money? Monterrey is clean, has visible police presence, people are friendly. did see a few homeless. Cannery row patrolled by parking enforcment. Those who drive, pay your dues. Drivers in Monterey courteous.

More akin to a Kennel than a Hotel. The place is well located and overall a nice property. That said, unless you don't mind the seeming majority of other guests with dogs all around, I would not recommend. Every floor of the hotel seemed to have several dogs on them - and frankly, it's just not very pleasant or sanitary. I am not a dog hater, but it's just too much.

Room Tip: Too many dogs and they are on every floor. If a hotel MUST be "dog-friendly," best to contain it...

Beautiful hotel in an amazing location! We picked the hotel because of its location to Cannery Row. So happy we did because the location was great, ocean front, right in Cannery Row. Hotel staff was fabulous. Welcoming, friendly, and professional. My favorite hotel of all time multi-city trip to CA.

Once again I went to Monterey. Once again we chose the Intercontinental Clement: we do not regret. Locatios is perfect, the place is very nice and lobby has a wonderful fire and an awesome view towards the sea. Room- this time without sea view- was very nice and quite big. Comfortable and elegant. Bathroom is also comfortable and modern. Perhaps shower power was not so good. I prefer amenities in the old way and not those wall soaps and shampoos. That is a down for us. No recognition of our Gold IHG category. It may not deserve it but we are used to being greeted for being loyal to the chain. Parking is convenient but having chosen Self parking when we had a problem with access being denied we went to the staff and they only told us to press the green button. They ignored the fact that it didn't work. Luckily, a person from the hotel who verified what we were saying called and they solved it from inside. They were not noted for their help. The same could be said with a small difficult during breakfast. We have booked "Breakfast included". The system did not especified what kind of breakfast. At the end of the breakfast, we were asked to pay all we have had. We complained at the front desk and they said that they had forgotten to give us the vouchers but we had to pay for some breads that were extra. The truth is that it didn't seem very fair to us because we should have been told beforehand what breakfast included. I would advice not to have breakfast there: extremely expensive and nothing exceptional except the view and the atmosphere of the place. The food is average. All these are small details that do not overshadow the quality of the hotel but whose improvement could make the stay even better. These are the reasons for not giving it the 5 it might deserve. Anyway, I would return if coming back to Monterey.
