The historic Biltmore Los Angeles has been a legendary Los Angeles landmark since 1923. With exquisite Spanish-Italian Renaissance architecture, including stunning hand-painted ceilings, it's rich history is most noted for its connection with the Oscars - the founding banquet for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was held in the Crystal Ballroom in 1927, where the original "Oscar" statuette was sketched on a Biltmore napkin, and eight Academy Awards banquets were held in the Biltmore Bowl during the '30s and '40s.

Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

The Biltmore Los Angeles captivates with its historic charm and a grandiose atmosphere that oozes classic Hollywood glamour, although some guests feel the ambiance leans towards the outdated. Cleanliness is a highlight, with most areas maintained to a high standard; however, the rooms often face criticism for maintenance issues and a lack of modern comfort. While the central location is praised for its convenience, visitors frequently voice concerns over unexpected charges, questioning the value for money. Additionally, service quality and noise levels have been points of contention among guests.

We stayed 3 of us in 1 room and got a corner room. This was bigger than standard and was able to fit a rollaway bed so we could each have our own space which was excellent. The hotel is beautiful and service was very friendly. Just be aware that there is no complimentary breakfast so you’ll have to pay or get food elsewhere, which is not a problem as there are several food options nearby. House keepers have great attention to detail.

As a fun tidbit the night we arrived there was a film crew shooting commercials on the lobby floor.

russellmZ4424SR, Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience at Biltmore Los Angeles! The spacious corner room sounds like it provided the perfect setup for your stay, and it's great to hear that our beautiful ambiance and friendly service made a positive impression. It's also fantastic that our housekeepers' attention to detail stood out. The nearby food options do offer convenient alternatives for breakfast. It’s always exciting to witness a bit of Hollywood magic with the film crew! We’re looking forward to your next visit. Safe travels, Biltmore Los Angeles

Pretty good overall.
Especially breakfast, lobby atmosphere and great decoration of interior.
But some points are truly disappointing.

The room was clean while some facilities are old. Towels and other amenities are newly replaced and prepared everyday. Be sure to bring your tooth brush and other stuff since the room has only shampoo, conditioner, solid soap and body lotion.

We arrived early morning and still had 6hrs to our check in time. The reception staff gave US a room key and We could come into the room 8-9a.m.. It was nice for us after long flight. However, fee for early check-in around 60USD was charged after our check-out. He should have told us about the fee before he allowed us to come into the room earlier than check in time.
More over, although our booking was Executive King room. On the website, the room should have 2 big chairs near the round table, but our room seems downgraded, probably Deluxe King room with only one chair without a round table, only with one office desk and one chair.
It was quite regretable we coldn't eat with the table together.
The reception does not give us Breakfast tickets when checking in and no explanation of restaurant location. So we seeked around the hotel in the morning and finally got to know we needed a ticket at the reception. It took much time and effort. He should given us when we checked in.
The guy at restaurant reception was very nice and he is very professional.
Breakfast is good. Atmosphere and other facilities at the hotel is great and traditional.
Only what we regret is we couldn't experienced Executive room stay (for our 6 nights of honeymoon) and early check in fee without any explanation. I sent them 2 emails before the trip, to ask some question about the facilities and tell them this is our honeymoon, with our name and schdule, but no reply at all and no feedback, no response to our request..

We stayed 30th Dec - 4th Jan check in was swift, room number and keys given along with directions to our room, no real welcome or information about breakfast or the bar etc more an uninterested young man. The lobby and cafe area are stunning, the decor has been well maintained and really is gorgeous. It was great to see the magnificent Christmas decorations that adorned the hotel inside and out and also the hotel without them. Our room was ok, bathroom a little tired looking and the window wouldn't close not really an issue as it wasn't cold and outside noise level wasn't much of a problem. The room has basic amenities a hairdryer, iron and a coffee machine, replenished daily with 2 paper cups and 2 small plastic cups 4 coffee pods and 4 sachets containing 1 sweetener, 1 powdered milk and 1 sugar a wooden stirrer and a napkin. I found this wasteful as you use either a sweetener or a sugar the rest goes in the bin. I expected a little more, a proper cup, glass in the bathroom and bottled water considering there was a $35 per night amenities fee that we weren't aware of until arrival. Twice I had to request paper cups to make a coffee from reception as none had been left when servicing the room.
Found the staff there somewhat aloof. I asked the Lobby attendant if I could take a look in the ballroom (which was open) I was told I could look through the glass door but not enter even though it was at a time when nothing was happening in there and had earlier seen a couple come out of there after they had been in to take pictures. We were interested in the history of the building and wanted to explore more but sadly the opportunity to do so was not afforded to us. No info given about the NYE event in the hotel, interesting to see there was some kind of 1920's style party going on but some of the people attending were quite loud and oblivious to actual hotel guests you could say they were quite rude and full of self importance. We couldn't get in the bar early NYE before we headed out as it was over crowded and was the same later when we got back about 12.45am. There was a lot of excitement from other guests (mainly Michigan fans) we encountered for the Rose Bowl game we got more info from a shared ride in the elevator about what was going on than the hotel staff. I asked the guy in the lobby if there was something going on, he simply answered there is a game in Pasedena Michigan v Alabama when I asked, no mention of the Parade or anything else he simply wasn't interested in speaking with us. The valets outside were always pleasant and said good morning etc which was more notable as the other staff very rarely acknowledged us. The area is a bit sketchy with homeless people sleeping opposite the hotel which isn't nice to see anywhere but the hotel is a perfect location for public transport which we mainly used and was able to get to all the touristy spots with ease. All in all it was an OK stay but we expected a bit more.

Angie D, thank you for taking your time to share your experience. We are pleased to hear that you appreciated our decor and festive decorations. Your feedback about your room, amenities, and our team members' interactions is important to us. It's disappointing to hear they did not meet your expectations. The opportunities you have pointed out for improving guest comfort, such as beverage station options, and increasing our level of service, like providing more historical information, are helpful. We also regret any discomfort with the local area but pleased you found our location convenient for accessing popular sites. We hope for an opportunity to better serve you in the future.

On 7/31/24 my husband through his job pre-paid for a 1 night stay in an Executive King room at the Biltmore hotel for NYE on 12/31/24. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Angelo who was working the front desk and on staff that evening was Frank Young- Director, Katalin Villareal- Manager, and late night was Winslow.. Angelo told us our room was given to someone else and that they were downgrading us and not giving us any of our money back. He also placed us in Rm. 592, one of the most disgusting rooms they had. That walls were pilling, paint chipping, ceiling rusted, and the view from the window look like a prison. The furniture and walls were damaged and it smelled like mildew and cigarette smoke and we are not smokers. We were not provided towels in the bathroom and it was not properly cleaned. The shower nozzle in this room was shoot water out from the side. We had to go to an event and decided to contact the front desk upon our arrival back from the event. When we returned we tried to cut on the tv and it would not work. We contact front desk who sent a nice gentle Brian up to try to fix the tv and it was irreparable so Winslow the night shift manager at 3am in the morning moved us to another downgraded room 723. We we exhausted and so disappointed with our experience at this point. The room looked a little better but the bed sat on a tilt and the bathroom was not kept up as well. In the morning when trying to bathe before leaving there was NO hot water. We spoke to Frank Young - Director upon check out and he did nothing. The hotel had the audacity to offer free parking and breakfast as compensation this is UNACCEPTABLE. They took our money, gave our room to someone else and downgraded us to horrible conditions. We want all our money back for our stay as we did not get what we were promised and horrible customer service. This was the worst hotel experience we have ever had in our lives.

First, the positives. The bell staff, front door staff and security attendants on the ground floor level were friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff made my room exquisitely. However, the negatives. The bar staff was inattentive. I sat waiting to be served or even acknowledged for several minutes as the bartender was more focused on a conversation with another patron. It wasn’t until a bar back asked me if I needed anything that I received any service. The next morning I went to have breakfast in the ground floor restaurant, thinking that the layout would be similar to the photos on the site. It was not. No problem, I would order from the menu. I made my request, and it was served correctly and quickly. However, they removed all the settings on my table when they realized I was eating alone. I was left with a dessert fork and teaspoon. Luckily I kept a napkin. I had to request a proper fork. Proper table settings are important especially in the price range of this restaurant. It is a beautiful hotel. I didn’t get much rest as the room across the hall had a party until around 2am. I didn’t complain because I didn’t want to cause any trouble.

Rick, it's positive to hear about your good interactions with our ground-level colleagues and that housekeeping met your expectations. However, it's unfortunate to hear about your not-so-stellar experience with the bar service and the confusion at the restaurant. We strive to offer welcoming settings for all guests, and it seems there may have been a misunderstanding during your breakfast. We also regret any disturbance you experienced during your stay; we always recommend guests alert us to any concerns so they can be addressed promptly. We hope you'll consider visiting us again so we may offer a far superior experience next time.

Poor room service. The room service brought the utensils around midnight something we asked around 9pm. So they woke us up for it. Very unusual and they were unapologetic about it. They also just walked in to our room after we checked in which was weird.

I love historic hotels and this is one of my favorites! I would give it 5 stars but for a few small conveniences travelers may expect and will get to those later.

The hotel itself is beautiful with soaring decorative ceilings and well appointed furnishings. You’ll find yourself looking up and taking a lot of photos during your stay (don’t be shy, everyone does it)! You’ll also find photographs of the early days of the Academy Awards held at the Biltmore as well as other key events, people, fashion, menus, etc.

The service is excellent and every employee I encountered displayed pride in their work and the utmost helpfulness and engagement. This hotel employs union workers and you can feel that in the employees’ dedication and knowledge.

While there is no restaurant per se the Gallery Bar is beautiful and has a full menu - great food, drinks and service.

To the small conveniences: while the bed is comfortable, the room quiet, and the shower warm and strong, there were no glasses in the room (though there was an ice bucket) and I was given bottled water on checkin. My room had a separate vanity, but no chair, and the mini fridge didn’t open so I couldn’t keep any snacks that needed refrigeration. There was a coffee maker!

These are very small points, and didn’t affect my overall enjoyment, but if you’re expecting the plethora of soaps, hair products etc and fancy coffee makers provided by big chain hotels, you may be a bit piqued.

Outside of the above, I love this hotel and enjoyed meeting all the international travelers, the atmosphere of history and elegance, and the stellar service.

The hotel staff (or what remained of them) was the best part of the experience. They tried to help us to the best of their ability and were very friendly. There was also a boba vending machine in the lobby (the lobby also nice looking) which is quite unique from what I've seen. That is pretty much all of the pro's of this hotel.

The hotel rooms were quite dirty and small. The windows were single pane which does not block out any street noise (including their workers on strike) and the paint was peeling/chipping on the windows. The room had a spider which I had to kill myself. The shower also does not drain properly. Being in the shower for 20 minutes the water was up to my ankles. The carpet was pretty dirty, more so when there is not room service. There was also no room service due to the strike that occurred halfway through my stay. 2/4 days there was no room cleaning/bed sheets/towels exchanged or trash dumped. Trash overflowed from the bin that was in the room. You would think that if their workers were on strike they would hire temp staff or call on their per diem employees, but nope, they just attempted to run on a skeleton crew, all while charging us full rate for little to no service.

Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. This hotel is riding on their history, but has many internal faults.

Your positive comments about our helpful, friendly staff, and the uniqueness of our amenities are truly appreciated, as it shows they were able to somewhat meet your expectations. Regarding the cleanliness and conditions of the room, we sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you encountered during your stay. We aim to provide a comfortable, relaxing environment, but it's clear from your feedback that we fell short in your case. Rest assured, we are internally addressing these challenges, and the issues raised are not ignored but will be carefully looked into. We also deeply regret the inconvenience the workforce situation during your stay caused. A well-maintained environment is a basic expectation, and we apologize for the lapses in room services you experienced. The circumstances were indeed exceptional, however, this should not have impacted the basic duties we owe to our guests. Your remarks hold immense potential for us, serving as a means of understanding where we are falling short, and what steps we can take towards enhancing our services. It’s an epic artistic historical glamor hotel that located in downtown LA, old building but it has excellent lobby, lounge and ballroom that is so instagramable. the stuff (furniture) inside the room (I book at deluxe room) is too old, the window was dusty, but it has comfy mattress clean bathroom with clean towel. Toothbrush, toothpaste & drinking water is on request. they provide face soap, shower and shampoo conditioning gel. The staffs were helpful. coffee maker is not free it’s charging usd.35 and they also don’t provide free parking (charge start usd.50). So far we really enjoy staying at this hotel. Looking for hotel in downtown LA it will be great choice to choose The biltmore hotel LA.

On our recent trip to Los Angeles (my first time), my boyfriend and I were very much looking forward to ending the trip at the seemingly fancy Biltmore Millennium hotel. My boyfriend had had this reservation booked for months - a room with a king sized bed - but when we checked in, we were told that our reserved room was no longer available, and we were "upgraded" to a room with two double beds. Usually not a big deal but guess what? The double beds were full sized! We had to sleep separately because there was literally no room for two people in one bed. Also, our "upgraded" room had a view of another building and a gross park that was under construction with loud noise (I didn't get to sleep in on the only day that I was able to). When we got to our room, I did an inspection and found that not only did we not have any bars of soap, but the bathroom had not been properly cleaned. I found: many hairs all over the bathroom and vanity area, a bandage wrapper/trash, a false eyelash, a small blood stain on the wall. I called to request more soap and let the front desk know about the state of the room. All that I got in a response was, "okay, thanks." But then an hour later, they sent cleaning people up to the room without telling me? We got our requested soap but I turned them away because I'm not going to awkwardly sit in my room while housekeeping cleans a bunch of stuff - it should have been cleaned beforehand. See my other photos for various damage, mystery stains on the curtains, and a useless door chain that didn't even reach so it couldn't latch. The room was just old and not very nice. The hallways smell like decades of cigarette smoke that they have tried to cover up with too much cleaner and it made me feel sick. It's a shame because I read that this is a historic hotel and while it is gorgeous and timeless, it just needs renovations and upgrades to keep it clean and nice for the modern day. My only other highlight was that the staff was very helpful and friendly. Kudos to the bellhops, valet, and concierge!
