Detailed Reviews
I stayed at Kawada Hotel for three nights recently, and was happy with my stay. The hotel is located less than five minutes’ walk from two Metro rail stations, Civic Center / Grand Park Station and the brand-new Historic Broadway Station. Civic Center / Grand Park Station is only one stop from Union Station, so the hotel is easy to get to from there, and is a particularly good place for a stopover. From Union Station, you can catch the Flyaway Bus to and from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The trains from Civic Center / Grand Park Station also run directly to Hollywood / Highland Station, where you can go to Hollywood Boulevard and the many tourist attractions there, such as the Walk of Fame. The trains from Historic Broadway Station run directly to Exposition Park and Downtown Santa Monica.
The room I stayed in was fairly small, but comfortable, with a fridge, microwave oven, and desk. The hotel is good value for Downtown LA, but considerably nicer and more modern than another budget hotel I stayed at in the area. The hotel staff were courteous and helpful, including when I checked in, which was quite late in the evening, and when I needed to borrow an iron and ironing board.
I find Downtown LA a rather odd and unnerving area at times, especially at night, mainly due to not many people being around, which is very unusual for a downtown/CBD area. However, Kawada Hotel is definitely in the nicer and somewhat busier part of Downtown LA. For example, it is very close to Grand Central Market, various Downtown LA tourist attractions such as The Broad, and a number of pubs and nightclubs.
Overall, I was happy with my stay, and would definitely stay there again.

Hotel's Favourite
Just got back from a weeks stay at the hotel.
At first I had my reservations but booked here due to the price of surrounding hotels.
However I would definitely recommended the hotel and would stay again.
Hotel staff were friendly and easy to deal with. Had a few problems over the week with the shower and vending machines but staff were happy to help, aswell as putting a card behind the check in for my wife who arrived later in the week.
The hotel is in the far end of downtown. It is around a 20 minute walk to the crypto arena. There are homeless and a few shady looking characters but this is L.A. in general.
The hotel had a restaurant and bar next door but we only visited once as it never seemed to be open. Shame because it was very nice.
We used the redwood bar, around the corner which was good for a late night drink. The grand central market is 3 minutes walk and is highly recommended. The nearest CVS/Walgreens was a 15 minute walk away.
The room itself was good, shower was decent, sufficient space, fridge, tv, air con , bed was comfortable and the room was very big.

It's right next to the metro station, so it's convenient and the price is cheap, but I feel that the facilities are a little inferior considering the price. This may be the flip side of being convenient, but there is a lot of traffic, and depending on the room it may be noisy at night, and what bothered me was that I could hear a lot of footsteps from the upper floors. I think it's difficult to improve after the fact.

This is a wonderful hotel in a great location for a budget price. The inside of the hotel and rooms look like they were recently renovated. Everything was clean and comfortable. The only disadvantage to this hotel (and all downtown LA hotels) is parking. There is an extra charge for parking which can run $25 here, and some other hotels charge even more. There is a coffee/tea maker in the hotel room, but other than that, no breakfast is provided. However, there are many places to eat breakfast nearby.

I spent two nights at the Kawada and will return again when I'm in Los Angeles. It is in a great location for downtown attractions and only one block from a Metro station. I did not have a car and it was great being so close to the Metro. My room was small but very clean and comfortable. The room had a small refrigerator, microwave oven and electric kettle to heat water. I checked in late at night and the desk clerk was very nice and helpful. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Hotel has no customer parking only offside valet for $40. I had court date next door at the federal building only to fing our that there's no free parking on site or offside. Be careful third party websites represent parking like priceline. Also no manager was on-site and the clerk was rude and very unhelpful. They ruined my day, I had to find a nearby hotel with parking. They refuse to cancel the reservation. Theres homeless people in lobby... I just recommend NOT to stay here. Marriott is right down the street and they have parking and charge less!!!

The stench entering the lobby was not a good start, in the elevator even worse. Small and uncomfortable room, blocked windows... only ventilation allowed by an air conditioner noisier than a tractor.
Only positive notes the kindness of the staff and the proximity of the metro.
Otherwise, to avoid...

We stayed at Kawada Hotel in august 2022. We wanted to get a taxi and asked the person at the bell/valet stand at the front door. He was a bit involved with his cell phone and eventually took off his music headphones, so we asked about a taxi. He said "nope, just get uber" so we said how we have overseas cell phones and internet isn't reliable here. He said "oh , then I don't know". We shouldn't be forced to use uber, and what's the point of having someone at that desk if they are no help?
The following day we asked the main desk about a tXi, and he ordered one for us straight away.
Surely they can find someone to work the bell desk who actually does the job.

I thought it’s an old cheap hotel. But my imagination was wrong. This hotel was very modern and clean all over the areas . The front desk staff was courteous and accommodated me. I was super tired because of overnight flight. I really appreciated getting me a room right away. The room was very clean with comfortable bed, bathroom was very clean and modern with good shower. The location of the hotel was excellent, near metro station, Civic Center, Grand Central Market and all other DTLA attractions within walking distance.
I’m glad I didn’t choose other hotel which cost around $300 a night. Kawada hotel room rate was reasonable and affordable, yet very good hotel, and there’s a casual restaurant serving good breakfast and lunch adjusting to the hotel building is a big plus. I’m going to return Kawada hotel at my next visit to DTLA.

The rooms in this hotel are small and depressing - don't be fooled by the photos that show this place as bright and apparently spacious! The rooms also smell of some unpleasant cleaning fluid. The manager is unfriendly and unhelpful. Traffic at night was noisy, making sleep difficult. Sincerely regretted booking this hotel.

The hotel is a block away from a Metro red line station, providing easy access to Hollywood, as well as Santa Monica (with 1 train transfer). Alternatively, you can easily call an uber to pick you up right in front of the hotel. Thank you!
Not sure what ROH stands for, but we stayed in a twin room that had 2 twin beds and we had a roll-away twin in the room as well. Yes, it has a private bathroom.
