The location is ideal, and the staff is very accomodating. Walking distance to all Long Beach attractions. The room is small, but that was expected after reading all other reviews. The bathroom was really, small, but again, expected. Try not to get a room by the stairs. There is no elevator, so if your room is by the stairs, you...

We stayed two nights at the Varden and it was a memorable experience. The rooms are small, but we knew that, and they were very well laid out for convenience and comfort and clean and modern. The beds are amazing, not king but so comfortable. It's like staying at a bed and breakfast. Larry and Charles are wonderful warm hosts,...

I stayed several nights at the Varden and was always well taken care of. I had an unpleasant experience with my car and the one of the co-owners stepped right up and helped me out. All of the staff were so great and I felt like they were looking out after me. The linens were just like from home and...

After a long journey travelling around California and not wanting to stay in smoggy LA we called the Varden hotel and booked a room. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home, both the Varden and Long Beach are fantastic! The reception staff (Melissa and Odina) really make you feel welcome, they were so helpful in finding us places...

The Dolly Varden Hotel is a charming "small" historical hotel. The owners and staff are welcoming, accommodating, and informative. Enjoy a light breakfast and evening wine with the hotel's guests, owners and staff. The rooms have been restored with great attention to detail and comfort. The hotel's location is within walking distance from many sites and public transportation. Linda M.

My husband and I recently stayed at the most charming Bistro Hotel in Long Beach for one night before embarking on a sailing trip to Catalina Island. The Hotel run by Larry Black was his "labor of love" during it's restoration, and it showed. Every detail was exquisite from the rooms decor to the continental breakfast with gourmet coffee and...

The Varden is a great place to stay in Long Beach. Easy to get to and easy to get around the area. A few of us stayed here for the Long Beach Marathon and it was a perfect place to stay the night before a big race. The staff was very helpful when we arrived and gave us several suggestions...

It was wonderful staying with Larry and his amazing staff at The Varden in Long Beach. They are sincerely glad to welcome their guests into their 'home" and to treat you like family. The atmosphere encourages friendliness with the other guests as well. It was a pleasure meeting travels from Australia and coming to know and appreciate them. If I...
