We loved our stay at this gorgeous craftsman style lodge. Such a nice change from modern high rise luxury hotels. The beautiful wood paneling through out the lodge, the authentic craftsman furniture in the rooms and common areas, the wood burning fireplace in the lobby, and of course the beautiful Pacific Ocean views make for a very special stay. Wonderful...

Difficult to find just one particular aspect of the memorable experience we enjoyed while staying at the lodge. It is a unique, beautiful and compelling hotel with the most respectful, caring and attentive staff. Excellent doesn't do justice to the experience we had and hopefully others will have as well.

From the time we drove up to the front door we knew we were in for a treat. We absolutely loved this place! The surroundings are very beautiful. The lodge sits by the Torrey Pines Gold course and in a reserve. Some rooms have views of the golf course and ocean and some of the wonderful reserve. Our reservations listed...

The staff and accommodations were impeccable. We enjoyed the entire hotel, including restaurants and car service, and were never disappointed. My husband was so excited to play the course and he and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait to return.

Stayed at the Lodge a few days ago for the first time and will definitely come back! It's designed based on the Gamble house in Pasadena and has lots of craftsman detail. The service was great, truly 5 star, the spa excellent, and the restaurant tasty (yes, expensive, but suits the hotel). The whole place has a nice pine scent...

We really enjoyed this place. It's very rustic, yet elegant. The rooms have fireplaces and the location in La Jolla can't be beat. We loved the alfresco dining at their main restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Book through American Express Platinum Card Travel for many extra amenities. We heard interesting story about the torrey pine trees. In addition, it is...

My wife and I stayed there Dec. 22 through Dec. 24th. Everything was excellent. People working there are very certious to all the guests. Restaurant was fabulous!! Rather expensive but well worth it! The ricotta pancakes for breakfast are out of this world!! The craftsman designs throughout are top quality. They copied Greene and Greene designs with loads of detail-great...

While visiting friends and relatives over the Christmas holiday, I spent a week at the Lodge. It was a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and very accommodating and the room (a “signature queen") was larger than expected and extremely comfortable with a nice terrace off of the back that overlooked one of the paths that wind their way through...

If you're a sunshine and view freak this is not the spot for you. Unless of course you get one of the too few/costly rooms with Pacific Ocean view. The rest of the rooms are in a pine forest. That combined with the heavy greens and dark woods of the Green and Green style made for a couple very dark...

Thank you for your review and we apologize if The Lodge did not live up to your expectations. With about 30% of the resort facing the Torrey Pines Golf Course and Pacific Ocean we do not often hear complaints about the views. The resort has masterfully recreated the Craftsman feel and it is indeed indicative of dark woods, rich fabrics...

What a wonderful place to stay. Every aspect of the Lodge at Torrey Pines was exceptional. When we arrived the staff greeted us with professionalism and courtesy taking care of our bags and vehicle. Our check in was like coming home to family. The rooms were large and very clean and the view looking out over the golf course to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lodge at Torrey Pines is an award-winning luxury resort set atop the cliffs of Torrey Pines State Beach in La Jolla, California. Awarded the AAA Five Diamond rating for 14 consecutive years, the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for six years in a row, and Travel + Leisure’s Top 50 Hotels in the United States and Canada, The Lodge provides stunning views of the world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course and Pacific Ocean and endless opportunities for guests to enjoy San Diego’s warm climate – from outdoor dining and relaxing at the spa to hiking, golfing and more. The Lodge is modeled after the famed Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena – two of the finest examples of early 1900s Craftsman-style architecture. Its post-and-beam construction features a natural color palette, graceful wing-like rooflines, shingle and sandstone-bluff exteriors, clinker-brick masonry, rich woodwork and natural stone surfaces. Arrivals are greeted by doormen attired in kilted Scottish dress, while inside are 170 spacious guest rooms and suites designed for supreme comfort. The Lodge’s signature restaurant A.R. Valentien – rated Best Hotel Restaurant in the West by Sunset Magazine in 2015 – is a destination for fresh regional cuisine served in an elegant setting overlooking the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Artisan Table Dinners highlighting farm-to-table fare in a communal setting are offered weekly, while Executive Chef Jackson headlines The Lodge’s annual Celebrate the Craft event, one of Southern California’s premier showcases for regionally grown ingredients and innovative cooking and winemaking. For a more casual vibe, The Grill at The Lodge offers a full menu of favorites whether dining indoors or on the patio, while its bar is an ideal gathering place after a day on the course. The Spa at Torrey Pines features signature treatments themed around the beauty and purity of the Pacific coastline. This 9,500 square foot space uses botanical- and marine-based extracts from European product lines Phytomer, SkinCeuticals, Farmhouse Fresh and NV Organics to replenish and restore the body and mind. Additional features of The Lodge include a croquet lawn, heated outdoor pool and cabanas, whirlpool, outdoor terrace with chaise lounges, hiking at the adjacent Torrey Pines State Reserve, a fitness center and the Scripps Library, a public space featuring a pool table, board games and more. Adjacent to The Lodge, the Torrey Pines Golf Course is an iconic 36-hole course that hosts the PGA Tour’s annual Farmers Insurance Open. Whether on the North Course or South Course, our guests have the opportunity to play where the pros play with the stunning La Jolla coastline as a backdrop. Nearby attractions include downtown La Jolla and Del Mar, Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the La Jolla Playhouse performing arts center and the Museum of Contemporary Art. During spring and summer, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club entices visitors with the thrill of live racing, while a popular year-round choice is the Torrey Pines State Reserve, a magnificent 2,000 acres of protected rare Torrey Pine trees featuring pristine beaches and eight miles of trails; The Lodge offers complimentary guided hikes throughout the preserve daily. The Lodge is located just 15 miles north of the San Diego International Airport and downtown San Diego. ... more   less
