Very relaxing, laid back town. All shops close early so be prepared for that. Hotel has great location, very clean, historic yet updated look, friendly staff. You can walk to everything from here. Very little "beach" with sand, mostly rocks, seals are adorable but smelly!

Dear WestVirginiaMom: So happy to hear how much you enjoyed our hotel. I appreciate your appreciation for our historic charm. We are committed to continuously making improvements to the hotel while still maintaining the original character. Glad you enjoyed our proximity to the Children's Pool where the seals frolic. They are indeed adorable. Thanks for taking the time to post...

The location was great and the employees of the hotel were great. The resuraunt staff outside was a little slow and absentminded. The view from my room was of the street so that wasn't ideal. I booked my room through a third party. I think that's why I was giving the handicap room facing the street and a broken light...

Dear Daniel - thank you very much for the feedback about your recent stay. While I am glad you enjoyed our hotel overall, particularly our location, I'm sorry about some of the issues you experienced. The fact that you reserved from a third party does not make a difference in your room assignment. (Although I will tell you that when...

We spend 4 days in this hotel and enjoyed our stay! It was very interesting to stay at the old historic hotel and we liked our room. Not big, with a cute bathroom and super comfortable bed and pillows! I slept well every night. Walls are pretty thin, so in the morning you can hear people walking and talking, but...

Dear Memiran: We'd love for you to come back too! And hopefully sooner than later. I'm certain the sun was shining while you were here and I assure you it's still shining. Fortunately for us, the weather in San Diego is pretty close to perfect year-round so anytime you return it should be just as you experienced this last time....

I enjoyed staying in a boutique inn just minutes from the ocean -- that has been there since before all the high rises. Having an ocean view, made it all the more special. Also perfect because of the many choices for cafes, shops, art and fitness studios close by.

Dear tarae794: I love the description you provided in your review title. I'm not sure we have been called "magical" before but I do love the word very much. Thank you. I'm so happy that you had such a lovely visit from New Orleans. Yes, we have indeed been around longer than the big high-rise that now overlooks the Pacific....

We enjoyed staying at the Grande Colonial, loved the location, would stay there again, though frankly didn't see where it got all the 5 star hype on trip advisor. Maybe since the choices in La Jolla are limited. We spent one night in San Diego, and definitely prefer staying in La Jolla. It is quieter, upscale, and doesn't have tons...

Everyone was amazing and super friendly. We had a Garden room and who cares about an ocean view when it is literally right around the corner. Just an awesome stay! Close to everything and next time we hope to check out the restaurant.
