visited here for a family occasion in june. as it was an occasion its nicer than just going to a pub for basic pub food, here its good quality home cooked meals and the menu isnt typical of 'pies' and 'fish and chips' i had the Salmon which was delicious and the steaks looked good too. prices are a little...

ambiance in dining room stark and dingy. side plates removed during meal without asking if we wanted any bread. large glass of wine served in a carafe which seemed very pretentious, or was it to try to justify the high price ?.

This is a most welcoming and friendly pub at which to stay with a good sized bar and restaurant; everything is sensibly priced. The rooms are quiet, clean and well laid out and the beds comfortable. My only criticism was the lighting which was very poor but I believe that something is being done about this. The food, including breakfast,...

Had a Sunday evening stopover on the way to Scotland. Arrival at 4pm to a lovely comfortable and quiet room overlooking the car park. Room was slightly smaller than expected but very adequate. A couple of hours reading the Sunday papers over a nice well kept beer and a glass of wine was very relaxing. Onward to the restaurant menu...

This lovely pub with rooms provided the perfect stopover on the way to St Andrews from London. The rooms are beautifully furnished and were warm and comfortable with good bathrooms and plentiful hot water. The bar has lots of atmosphere as does the dining room and the food was delicious. Breakfast was equally so. I can wholeheartedly recommend the George...

This inn is sandwiched between the M6 and a main line railway line. Remarkably this does not detract from the inns ambiance. My wife and I and our dog stopped here for two nights on the way back from Scotland. Yes it's very dog friendy. Richard the manager who is a regular dynamo even arranged for us toneat breakfast with...

Arrived this afternoon and shown into Room 1. Long and thin with a double bed jammed against the wall (about 2ft from the other wall too). One dim overhead light and one dim bedside light. Dangerous step down into the bathroom. The dinner will have to be good to compensate for this!!!! (It was VERY good!). The bar is tricky...

Nice, fairly stylish pub with good food and very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are fairly small but that's not a big deal. Food is above-average gastro pub standard without trying to be too clever. A good stepping stone for trips through Cumbria and up to Scotland.

Really good food, locally sourced, good service - excellent cask ales on special the blonde ale was exceptional. Liked the ambiance and the homely feel to the Restuarant would definitely stay there when next in the area. Part of a small group local to the area would recommend searching them out too.
