Went for lunch at 12pm. Food arrived 12.45. Very small portions of nothing special, i.e pork cut let, spoonful of mash potatoes, hard to chew cabbage, Waterey gravy, £13.00, this incidentally was the cheapest meal on the menu, apart from salad. Pint of lager £4.95.. Served in the bar . Won't be going back.

We stayed for three days in this very popular fully booked hotel, very well located for touring the northern Lakes District by car. Our room was a bit small but very well appointed, with a very good bed and a functional modern en suite shower and toilet. The welcome and all other interactions with staff were very friendly and satisfactory.... More

Log fire and a fine selection of ales, what more could you want. I stayed here with my kid and other than a couple of minor things I was very happy with our stay. I got two single beds instead of the double I asked for and also the early check in option doesn't exist. But the service was good,... More

Overall a good experience. Decent room with good bathroom. Dinner was well cooked and tasty, with an interesting wine list at fair prices. Good breakfast and really dog-friendly. Train & road noise a bit problematic for light sleepers.

Very nice surrounding. The food was very good but the portions were somehow small. Price is above average and on the high side. Services excellent. Inside the pub not as authentic as the outside look.

A visit during Lowther Show made for a very busy time for all of the staff. The restaurant was packed but nevertheless we were efficiently looked after and the food was very well cooked and presented with an appetising choice. Our room was very clean and comfortable and I would have given a 5 star rating had the excellent breakfast... More

I can't praise the staff of the George and Dragon highly enough. Every member of staff we came into contact managed to perfect the difficult balance of professionalism and informality. A small issue with our room was dealt with to our complete satisfaction. As for our evening meal and breakfast - first class . A tip to any potential guest... More

Stopped en route to Scotland for an evening meal. Very accommodating and the food was really outstanding. Feel very lucky to have eaten in such a lovely restaurant. The venison loin was perfect, and accompanied by delicious Heritage potatoes. My husband had an equally perfect Sirloin steak with gorgeous chips. For dessert I tried the duck egg custard tart -... We used this as part of the C2C Whitehaven to Tynemouth route. A couple of miles off-route and up over a hill, but a nice B&B with secure bike storage. Really well finished, with a great breakfast, and high quality pub food. Beds nice and firm. Staff were helpful.
