The only issues I had are the following:
1. I found some small pieces of plastic (like from a shopping bag) and some sunflower seeds on the carpet. I didn’t notice this until I got down to do some stretches. But it made it obvious that the carpet hadn’t been vacuumed... at least not well.
2. My room was directly across from the breakfast buffet and only a door or two away from the laundry facility. Luckily, I had to get up early the next morning (5:30am). But had I wanted to sleep in it would have been impossible with all of the noise. So if you get room 104 I suggest changing rooms if you want to sleep in.
3. When I got in my room there was a light flashing on my phone telling me I had a message. When I checked the messages it was for another customer who had checked out on Tuesday. I checked in on Friday. The hotel should clear all messages after a guest has checked out.
These two things are the only reasons why I didn’t give a full 5-Star rating.
Complimentary: As I have written in previous reviews, this is a very nice motel. Very clean, well maintained, and great location to freeways.
Critical:
I had total knee replacement surgery on September 24th. On August 28th, I went to this motel to make a reservation for September 24th and 25th. I had to have someone stay with me for the first 2 days post surgery. When making the reservation I was very clear that I needed a handicap access room. I asked if I could see one of those rooms and was told that I could not, due to Covid. I was not going to touch anything, I just wanted to make sure it was what I needed. I explained that the room had to be for me and someone to help me. There was only a queen sized bed in the room, but I was assured that there was a sofa in the room where my helper could sleep.
Upon check-in on the 24th, we went to the room, and there was NO sofa. Just a bed, table and chairs, and one other chair too small for anyone to sleep in comfortably.
Also upon check in, I was told that the normal buffet style breakfast was different in that they were using up everything until they ran out and that they were going to be going back to sack breakfasts that had to be heated in the room microwave. My friend went to get breakfast Saturday morning, and the only thing available was some scrambled eggs, juice, coffee and toast. Nothing else, so he went to McDonalds to get us a decent breakfast.
The soda machine was out of order, with a sign that read "soda machine out of order, bottled water is being sold in the lobby".
Now, on top of all of that, I paid $190.27 for Friday night and $214.54 for Saturday night. Total: with taxes $437.98. Absolutely ridiculous rates for the type of room and service we received. I paid less than that for an ocean view room on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii.
I will be staying at this motel in the future, only because it is the only decent motel in an area where I conduct business.
I just hope this review does not fall on deaf ears.....
I live in the area and needed a room on very short notice on a weeknight because my home was being "bug bombed" for an insect invasion. I thought it would be a nice idea to get a jacuzzi suite for my sweetie and I if it was available, so I called the location direct instead of reserving online as I usually do with most hotels and motels. The nice lady at the desk was extremely helpful and courteous, and that would be repeated both upon check-in and check-out (I was especially impressed as she properly handled a gruff person already checking in as we got in line). I cannot speak about the continental breakfast or any of the other out-of-room amenities (other than the swimming pool appearing clean) because we were either more interested in using the in-room jacuzzi or had to make a quick exit in the morning to make it to work on time.
We both found the room to be clean and comfortable. The bathroom proper was small and I always find it odd when the sink area is in the room area instead of behind the bathroom door or at least right next to it. That being said, they were all clean and functioned properly. We did not have time to use the in-room coffee maker although it appeared new and well-stocked. The fridge was clean and plenty large enough to hold all of the soft drinks we brought with us. The jacuzzi was well maintained and roomy enough for two people to sit very comfortably in it and enjoy the relaxing jets of water. There is a "roadhouse" type restaurant next to the property that I had eaten at in previous months -- avoid it like the plague. We did not even bother using the TV set in the room, but we didn't need to -- and that leads to my big complaint about this specific Comfort Inn.
Now, I realize that no hotel can do much about noisy guests unless they truly get out of hand. So, I am not blaming this Comfort Inn for the people who were on our floor slamming doors, yelling in the hall, or not keeping their bratty children in line up through about 11 PM. As any good traveler knows, you could just as easily show up on a night when your neighbors are all more courteous instead of one where people have no thought that there are others in the adjoining rooms.
What I do blame this location for is being built with some of the thinnest walls I have ever experienced going back to the first years I can remember traveling with my parents. Our two direct neighbors were by no means blasting their television sets -- they were on a quite normal volume. But, both my sweetie and I could hear every single word coming from each one. And, as those guests chose to watch TV well beyond two in the morning, we had no choice but to also listen in. I am normally a pretty heavy sleeper, but this was more than I could ignore even with a fluffy pillow over my head (my sweetie also said that she got very little sleep as well).
Again repeating my rule that the #1 priority of any hotel is to provide a good night's sleep, I just cannot give Fontana's Comfort Inn my full endorsement. But, while you are awake, you will be treated well by the kind and attentive staff and find the accommodations (at least in the jacuzzi suite) very nice for this level of hotel. It also gets a plus from me for being one of the few hotels left in California that still has some smoking rooms. But, I'd rather go outside to have a cigarette than stay up all night listening to somebody else watch TV when I need to get to sleep.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place.
