I have no idea what you all are talking about. Being intolerant of unruly and unsupervised children is not being kid unfriendly. Oh wait a minute. You wouldn't know about that. It just so happens that my wife and I were in the park on the weekend during your stay along with our three children. Unfortunately we had a horrible experience. No fault of the park or the staff. They did everything they could to try to accommodate us and all of the other guests in the park despite the unruly, drunk and disorderly group a few sites away from us. They had more than a few kids each with a bike which they flew around the park in endangering our very young kids and folks trying to stroll through the park. Unsupervised we watched these kids toss their garbage all over the park. But then they were just following the example set by their parents who thought it was funny to fill one of the tent campers tent with the entire contents of a garbage can. Funny, right? This group also liked to start their day out doing "shots" and drinking beer at 10 in the morning while playing a loud and boisterous game "corn hole". Should be called "_ _ s hole". Got so bad with this group the cops had to be called when at 10:30pm, having drunk it up all day, these folks starting screaming and yelling. We watched the manager and other guest of the park respectfully try to control these guys but they just laughed it off and continued on without any regard for the rest of us in the park. To give everyone an idea of just how "off the hook" these guys were, when they finally left those of us still in the park cheered and celebrated the peace and quite. Funny how some people think they can get on a review site and say anything they want regardless of whether it is true or not. So please, this is a great RV park that goes out of their way to accommodate kids, groups and everyone that has has a least a little sense of camper etiquette.

We stayed 4 nights in our 43 motorhome and found this to be a perfect spot. It was a good central location to go do 17 mile scenic drive and the Sanat Cruz beach Boardwalk. It is also locate right down the road from the Henry Cowell State Park which had the most amazing hiking. At the end of the day we were able to sit outside and relax with beautiful nature surroundings. Staff was extremely accommodating and helpful. We will be making a point of coming back here!

My family stayed at the Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort for 5 nights last week, bringing our 27' travel trailer. Very pleased - it was the quietest campground I've ever been in. We had an excellent location in the corner, with redwoods all around and a river right behind us. The campground was clean, well-maintained and featured many redwood and other mature trees. The traffic through the campground was very light, so our girls were able to ride their bikes around easily. They brought a portable fire-ring to our site, and would deliver fresh firewood as well for a very reasonable fee. Showers were hot and had very good water pressure. Restrooms were clean. The clubhouse had a ping pong table and other games. You can easily cross the river into the state park, or walk to the Roaring Camp Railroad.

In Felton, there is a Bigfoot Museum as well as a covered bridge park. Scotts Valley is a slightly larger town, about 7 minutes drive. Santa Cruz is about 10 minutes away, very easy to get to from this campground.

Note: Some of the sites were very close together and if we had been in those sites, I would have been disappointed. I definitely recommend one of the premium sites. The wifi was free and worked best closer to the group campfire area. They do not have a pool.

Would have given this spot 5 stars but their customer service is terrible. Due to the heavy rain, we had a catastrophic failure of our awning. Went and talked to them to find out if they had a mobile guy they could recommend. They were minimally helpful. Told us we could keep our rig parked there a couple days until we could get it repaired because they weren't booked for the week but we'd have to pay full price. Which is fair. We opted not to do so and worked all morning to get the awning secured and rolled out of there 15 minutes late. We promptly got a charge for late checkout. Definitely don't recommend! And I will be sure and let everyone I know what crummy customer service we received and that this place is best avoided.

Response from SCRRV Manager, General Manager at Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort
Responded 23 Feb 2024
I am sorry this is how you feel about our policies, but too many people have taken advantage of staying in their sites too long after checkout and we have a park to maintain and these rules are in place to keep it running as smoothly as possible. I don’t feel that we gave you poor customer service and were minimally helpful, as we gave you mobile repair services to contact and let you know that the space you were in was available if you needed to stay extra nights for repair, yes that would be site fees along with that, you also wanted to borrow ladders and no we can’t do that due to liability reasons or come to repair it for you as we are not rv techs. Yes we charge late fees for anyone still in their sites after 11:15 which check out time is 11 am, which on the terms and conditions that you signed says late fees are automatically applied, we feel that a 15 min grace period is appropriate. You did not communicate that you needed more time. We have you on camera with the awning secured at 10am and then departing the park at 11:38am.

This RV park has the potential to be 5 stars plus! The area is incredibly beautiful and there are some amazing campsites along the San Lorenzo River. Unfortunately, if you're relegated to many of the other sites, you'll be shoehorned into an incredibly small space! If these sites were "decompressed" into more functional sizes, this RV park would be much more attractive. For me though, I won't be back.

Also, although the park is directly adjacent to Henry Cowell State Park, to get there you either wade through the San Lorenzo River or risk HWY 9. We chose the latter and regretted it the minute we got to the highway. Traffic is fast and there is A LOT of it! We turned back.

My one word summary of this RV park: CONFINED

Our site was to be a drive through, it was not. The sites are small and really not even marked. We had to back in around a tree with a 30’ Airstream. The ground were dirty with paper and other crap. The first night there was a set up next to us that was partying until 4:30 am, with a open firer in a stand up barbecue really thought they were going to burn the place down. We were next to the bathrooms and laundry. Laundry was clean so ok. Would never stay there again. Empire Grille down town was very good food great service.

We just recently spent two weeks within this campground.

Pros; Campground is located within the Redwoods, close to Roaring Camp Railroad and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Laundry room was clean (inside), building needs some work. Cable TV provided worked well.

Cons; Wi-Fi constantly down. In fact, last weekend we only have Wi-Fi late Sunday night. Wi-Fi also seems to go down nightly. Campground includes many long term RV's, which were in poor condition. Many buildings within the park were falling apart. Campfire? Well, you must "rent" a self-contained fire-pit from the office. Restrooms/Showers need much updating.

Maybe a con to some: We thought being shaded by the trees would be nice, but it was always damp and our trailer slides and awning were filled with tree droppings.

Personnel: Manager or Owner "Larry?” was very rude, as we decided to leave early (one day). We provided this notice over a week before said date. Manger/Owner explained all sales are final. No refunds. He did decide to refund the one day, but he thought it was important to school us on their policy again, huff and puff, explaining this will not happen again. WoW! We did pay for 2 weeks...jeez. Did we ask for any refund when we checked in and discovered the rec room and club house were not available? No... Did we educate the park manager/owner that only half of the listed features were available? No... A simple thank you for your business, a "brief" explanation about their policy and completing a refund would generate more repeat business from us and our RV family club.

We are currently on a 2 year adventure taking our RV throughout the US, and have been RV'ing for many years. Therefore, we have an idea between high-standard qualities and poor quality. This campground is in need of much TLC. Don't be deceived by the photos on their website or listed amenities.

Response from Santa Cruz R, Manager at Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort
Responded 23 Nov 2015
Thank you for your honest review and I would like to update you on our park. My wife and I are the new managers here and as such would like to address your comments. Good news! The park wifi system has been upgraded and the bandwidth has been quadrupled with 5G now being available. With these improvements a solid wifi signal is available throughout the park. But remember, the BIG trees and all of the RV's love to soak up signal which is just a fact of the environment the park is situated in. As for campfires, we allow anyone to bring and use their own firepit so long as it is elevated at least 5" off the ground and has the appropriate screening to stop any floating embers from starting a forest fire. We provide firepits to rent at a nominal fee as a courtesy for those guests that arrive without. As for long-term guests, we only allow guests to stay on a month-to-month basis during the off season - October 1 through April 30 and then 6 months is the maximum amount of consecutive months allowed. We apologize for any rudeness you experienced and would like to assure you that as the new managers we are making every effort to see that everyone has a pleasant experience, regardless. As for our refund policies, they are industry standard though we are sensitive to extenuating circumstances and apologize if there was an oversight in your case. As for the condition of the buildings, well, we have 5. The park office, the main restroom/shower facility, the laundry, the secondary restroom/shower facility and the club house. The clubhouse underwent a major remodel in 2014 which included ADA compliant accessabilty additions and a wifi repeater for improved wifi access. During your stay the clubhoue was undergoing this remodel and thus its unavailabiltiy at that time. Normally the clubhouse is available to all guests from 9am to 9pm and later for holidays and special events. The main restroom/shower facility has been repainted with the addition of exhaust fans to help eliminate the buildup of moisture and the resultant meldew. The secondary restroom/shower facility at the north end of the park was torn down and replaced with a brand new facility. The laundry remains clean and tidy and in good condition and the park office has received an interior facelift to match the new look of the clubhouse. Now about those pesky shade trees and droppings. The park is located in A REDWOOD FOREST and as such is majestic and awesome in its uniqueness. The redwoods are known for providing a cool environment especially in the fall and winter seasons. Damp is also a characteristic of life in the redwoods during those seasons and droppings, well, what would you have several hundred redwood trees do? Shedding their fronds is part of nature, plain and simple. So if you love the majestic beauty of the redwoods, our primary amenity, and would like to take out your RV and experience a few days or even a week or more among them we invite you to come back and re-evaluate them and the space we share with them.

Cheek to jowl camping at it's worst. We didn't come begging at the last minute. We made reservations several months in advance, paid for a standard site and expected an average sized space based on photos on the website. After checking in with our 18 ft trailer we nearly missed our assigned space because a picnic table occupied the tiny site jammed in between 2 large trailers. After moving the table we managed with difficulty to squeeze our tiny trailer into the site and park our tow vehicle crosswise in front of the trailer on the street. The adjacent trailers were only 4 feet away on either side and at the back of our site was a redwood tree with just a couple of feet between it and the trailer. This is where we had to set up our folding chairs to have any sense of privacy--just inches from and looking directly at the rear of the trailer.
This was one of the worst camping experiences we've ever had. It was either stay inside our smalI trailer or leave for the entire day and return only to sleep at night. After 2 very unpleasant days of this we were able to get a site at nearby Henry Cowell State Park so we forfeited the cost of our remaining day, moved there for 2 days and were able to salvage the remainder of our trip. Greed on the part of the owner of this park is the only explaination for the existance of the postage stamp size space we were assigned and we will NEVER NEVER return to this park.

We will never stay there again nor recommend as long as the manager is working there. Although the resort as a whole is picturesque, conveniently located, clean, safe, fun, family atmosphere, affordable and all you can expect from a class “A” campground/resort, there is always that one “A” hole that can ruin the visitors experience and the resorts reputation. I hope the owners read this, take this review seriously and have a discussion with the manager on his customer service skills.
We made reservations a year in advanced and put down $100.00 deposit with the remaining X amount balance due at arrival. No problem, all is good, however upon arrival they over charged us 100+ dollars. We pointed out the mistake and showed them the receipt/statement they provided us showing the correct balance due at arrival and they gladly refunded the over charged amount, then explained to us that there was a software glitch and there had been an increase in price after we initially made the reservations and the computer charged us the new daily rate also we were never notified of any price increase - All was good- We decided to leave early (3 days) due to unseen circumstances and we honored their policy of no refunds which was absolutely OK with us. No worries. When we arrived home we looked at the charges on our bank statement and had a question on one of the charges which needed clarification. We called and the lady clerk that helped us was not sure how to explain so she said she would have the manager call us back. He did and explained to me the charge and all was good - but he thought it was important to let us know that we are “on their list of people to watch out for if we ever decided to stay there again and they would scrutinize our bill to make sure we paid the correct rates” then continued to school me on their pricing policy, that we got away with a refund that was not deserved, how we had the nerve to ask for and got away with not having to pay for the increase of rates…
Huffing and puffing, explaining this will not happen again if we ever decided to camp there again and how he had to explain to the owner why they gave us a refund! – REMEMBER!...It was “their billing mistake not ours”… Wow! We did pay for 2 weeks and left 3 days early. Did we ask for any refund when we checked out early? No. Did we educate the park manager that some of the listed features were not available, ie WiFi? No. A simple thank you for your business, a "brief" explanation about their new pricing policy would have been nice and that alone would generate more repeat business. But after his insulting remarks trying to make us feel that we were at fault was quite frankly rude and insulting!

I wanted to reach out to you and apologize for your experience with the management and staff here at Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort. I noticed in your post that you would never again stay in our park for as long as the "I can't remember his name" manager was still working here. As of September 1, 2015 the park has a new management team, myself and my wife (Jae & Paula), and we would like to ask you to give us another try. Everyone has a different management style and we hope that our style will provide you with a different experience than your last one. Thanks for your honest review and we hope that your next review will reflect a positive improvement.

The RV location is very nice, the amenities are great, park is very clean and the staff very helpful. The ONE complaint however is the individual sites are PACKED in with very little room around each site. In my opinion I think they should reduce the # of sites by about 15-20% even if that meant raising the rates.

We were at this RV site last week (7/16/18) and here is the TRAVEL WARNING from the site that they send to you when you make a reservation. We drove this road in our car once we got set up and I'd say you can make it but the road is narrow and would not be a real safe drive in your RV. Hope this helps you. TRAVEL WARNING: It is not advisable to take large rigs (27'+) up CA-9 from the Santa Cruz area. Take CA-17 North to the Mt. Hermon road exit into Scotts Valley. Go 3.8 miles to Graham Hill Road. Make a right on Graham Hill Rd. and go 0.2 miles to Highway 9. Make a LEFT on Highway 9.
