The Safari has had a bad rep. due to past owners who haven't kept up the property or provided good service. The Indian family who runs the Safari now was very helpful. Friends who had given up on the Safari were surprised to see the positive changes. Rooms were clean, bathroom was fine. Carpet looked new. Furniture is so out...

We chose the Safari Inn in Chico because it is relatively close to downtown and we needed something cheap. The money would have been better spent at a Motel 6 or something similar. Dealing with the proprietor was fine but as we approached our unit, it was quite obvious that several "guests" were actually residents of the hotel. There were...

We arrived at the Safari Motel around 2:00 p.m. on a Saturday. Checking in was quick and uneventful. We got a room in the back of the facility, upstairs. My first impression of the room when I opened the door was a slight mustiness, and thin, worn carpets. The bathroom was somewhat clean, although dirt in the corners was visible....

Other reviews are true; threadbare linens, old spreads, ratty blankets. The room didn't smell clean. Windows were dirty. Upon return in the evening, there were tiny flying insects in the room when we entered. At nightime, it was too dark in the room to read a book, do my nails, or see the dirt I believed to be lurking everywhere;...

I checked this site and the AAA Book for a decent motel before we booked a last minute night on our way back to Los Angeles from Oregon. Safari ranked #4 on this site and the price was right, so we took a chance. In a nutshell: The room was $20 higher than the published rates in the AAA book...

Despite reading several very poor reviews elsewhere, I was desperate and took a chance. Spoke to owner several times regarding stay. Was given very clear message that the room would be a certain rate and that there was no minimum stay. "You can stay one night or you can stay three", I was told more than once. Was told that...

Good value for a clean, comfortable though older room. The property is a from the era of the drive-up motor lodge. The linens are a bit threadbare and nothing is new, but the beds are comfy and the location and price are great. We booked using Hotels.com but our friend who called the hotel directly to book got the same...

I was looking for a hotel to stay in the weekend of Gold Cup- which is a huge sprint car race in Chico and I was suprised to find the Safari Inn at such a great rate $60. It is an older motel, but the rooms are nice and the management is very friendly! I was also suprised and happy...

“If you are not a smoker ask for a room far from the smoking rooms, as there are still a few folks traveling to Chico who haven't quite got the memo about smoking as a stinky carcinogen while we could not smell smoke in our room, the fellow smoking outside his door didn't seem concerned whether or not his smoke drifted into the windows of others.”
