Detailed Reviews

Definitely worth making the time for this gorgeous piece of nature. Park in the parking lot and do the easy (.5 mi) walk to the edge of the bluffs for spectacular views. Continue the walk to #7 on the map and it puts you back at the parking lot (easy walking). Or continue to #10 (walk under the highway!) for beautiful forest views. Turn down towards the beach (stairs) - for an extra treat. If you can do the full walk (5 mi round trip - same path out is the path back in) go for it

My son's 5th grade class stayed for 2 nights and three days to learn at the Ecological Staircase, the Mendocino Botanical Gardens, and more. This area is rich with so many exceptional learning opportunities. We stayed at the Jug Handle Creak Farm campground. We did not stay in the farm house. I appreciated that there was plenty of parking and we were walking distance to an amazing beach. The campground was large and grassy with plenty of trees. There was a nice little kitchen area with picnic tables, prep tables, and a sink. It worked really well for the class. We packed in 2 full days of learning activities. Helene did a wonderful campfire program and sing-a-long with the children. You can purchase wood on site. The staff are very helpful.

Another of a line of beautiful beaches, bluffs, and walks in Fort Bragg CA area.
A short 1/2 mile well maintained path along the bluff and among the flora. There are explanation signs along the way to help focus you in on what you are seeing.
By taking a short off-shoot path takes you to a stairway (37 steps) down to the beach. The view from the bottom is well worth the trip down.
Not long and not strenuous trek (maybe steps to beach) and a pleasant time. "Try it, you'll like it."

Jughandle is listed as a protected land area, and they want to keep it that way. All guests follow simple rules and have to put in time working on the land - clearing brush, policing the area, working inthe garden.
They have cool little *tiny* cabins for low low cost - and they give you a kerosene lamp to light your way. It's definitely "back to the earth" around here - and thank heavens.
they have a big house that will take a party of ten or more - and the cost is quite reasonable split that many ways - it's got a full kitchen and you can plan a week-long getaway, taking in the local sights while stayng the quiet life in a comfy house up thehill...
