Easily reached from the coast but a completely different landscape. Trails from the resort, comfortable unit, peaceful & attractive. Able to watch platypus in the river, also saw bandicoot & possum which didn’t expect.

We stayed in a cabin with our children and had a great time. There was no oven in the cabin but there was a stove so we were able to prepare our own meals. The restaurant wasn’t open when we were there over the weekend but we were able to get takeaway meals. The rooms aren’t modern but they were comfortable, with a fireplace for use during winter. The river was a very short walk from our cabin and we saw at least one platypus each time we walked past, regardless of the time of day. We also saw plenty of turtles. We enjoyed the walks, our children who are 3 and 5 managed the shorter ones with no issues.

If you are looking for platypus, this is the place to stay, a short walk from an almost guaranteed sighting (we saw them twice over a three night stay). We were in an Echidna, the most basic. The furnishings and fixtures were tired, and pretty basic. There's a slow combustion heater for winter, which probably give osme atmosphere. Not needed in summer, of course, though we had to put an extra blanket on the bed. We cooked for ourselves (as best we could with the limited facilities). Only meals offered were dinner (an interesting menu given it was likely all out of the freezer). The lounge/bar look comfortable and in better nick. No coffee machine. It seems likely from observation of Eungella township (Brokenriver is not a township) and this accommodation that tourism is not going well in the area. No services in the village. Investment is needed. ------- My accommodation ratings 5 Well above expectations – a great experience and/or quirky.. 4 Above expectations. I will come here again. I will tell friends about it. 3 Met expectations. Everything OK but nothing special. Will try some other place next time. 2 Did not meet expectations based on advertising or ratings. 1 To be avoided.

A beautiful location in the forest of the Eungella N.P. The cabin was very clean and with plenty of room. The bed was comfortable. Self-catering was easy. Firewood was offered for a wood heater, but the reverse cycle air conditioner was sufficient to warm the cabin. Many forest walks were available. Platypus were seen in the river. Would go again.

Overall our stay was very comfortable in a beautiful setting with opportunities for platypus viewing. Staff were very helpful. We stayed in Cedar Lodge B with a separate bedroom and bunks near the kitchen/dining area. The cabin was a good size with balcony and had most things we needed. There was aircon in the main room - it would have been nice to have had aircon or electric blankets in the bedroom. WiFi was supposed to be available in the cabin but it didn't work at any point in time. You need to go to reception or the dining room to get wifi access. (There is no mobile reception.) It wasn't a big deal for us but we also had issues with tv reception.

My partner and I enjoyed our little winter weekend getaway to Broken River Mountain Resort, The staff were very accommodating when we rang and advised that we were late leaving and they kindly took our dinner orders too. The room was large and cosy when when the fire was going (it even stayed warm though out the next day without the fire going). Your so close to platypus viewing platforms so you can sleep in that extra few minutes without missing out and a fantastic experience of watching them in the wild. The restaurant was beautiful and even had a choice of Gluten-Free meals which were delicious! The carport is close to the rooms so you don't even have to walk that far! We honestly can't wait to come back again!

Close to the platypus but that is it. We stayed in Cabin Style A for two nights. $240 per night for 2 adults and 1 child. The kitchen was full of cockroach poo. We ended up washing everything and keeping it in our esky. The cabin is old, dilapidated and ready for demolition. It smells musty. The floor is rotten. The shower leaks. The furniture would even get picked up on road side clean up. The beds were well worn. Doors split, handles loose. Carpet old and manky. On the second night the power went out in the evening, because it could not keep up with demand. No apology or acknowledgement when we handed the key in the next morning. On the positive side, the sheets were clean and aircon worked. It is a great location. So much potential, yet it would take a serious investor to get this up to the expectations of interstate and international travelers.

Response from Shirley Muller, Marketing at Broken River Mountain Resort
Responded 9 Apr 2023
Hi GordonsSister, Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback about your stay with us. Firstly we want to offer our apologies for the level of cleanliness described in your feedback. This does not reflect our cleaning standard at all and this instance has been passed on to facilitate further training. We'd also like to offer our apologies for the inconvenience of the power outage experienced on Friday night. The afternoon storms that came through left over 500 properties without power from Crediton > Marian. We did have the back up generator on as soon as we could until the main power came back on later on Friday night. Again we'd like to offer our apologies that our accommodation did not meet your expectations, Broken River Mountain Resort is an older, rustic style wood cabin resort in the middle of a rural rainforest. We do the very best we can with what is available to us. Thank you again for taking the time to leave us feedback, which can only help us improve.

The location of the property is unique and there is no similar alternative, I understand this is how they can charge $280/night for a 3 star 'cabin'. First the good things: Location for platypus viewing and rainforest walks was exceptional, we saw many platypus which was the reason for the visit Air conditioning in the main area Big fridge Staff all friendly Its all downhill from here, these are the main things of concern: It would have been nice to have a latch on the door to the toilet so that you don't have to use your feet to hold it shut. Call me old fashioned but I expect doors to toilets facing the lounge room to be able to be closed property. I did talk to someone about this and told that they were aware of the issue and it will be fixed in due course. (Refer again to the rate per night!). I was frustrated that we were given this cabin for 3 nights. The kids bunk beds were bordering on being unsafe (rocking excessively) we got both our children to sleep on the bottom bunks. There was rubbish left in the bins from the previous tennants The cabin was overall dirty, the curtains and carpets looked 30+ years old One of the stove burners didn't work TV didn't work well due to signal Not enough seating for 4 in the lounge room Hot water limitation requires staggering showers at least 20 mins apart Bed was very uncomfortable I don't like complaining but feel that people should be informed of what they can expect when being charged these fees.

Thank you for taking the time for this review. Of course we are always more happy about a great score but this gives a the chance to look into some of the issues. We do understand your complaint about the toilet door. This happened to the guests staying right before you and did not give us enough time for fixing it. We could not relocate you to another cabin as this style was completely booked during the school holidays. We do apologize for not communicating this to you clearly. We did check on the Bunk Beds already and solved the problem by just tightening the screws of the otherwise very sturdy beds. We implemented a task for our cleaning personnel to check regularly. The cleanliness of the cabins was always something we were very proud of and as we located were the problem was recently, we addressed this and are confident we are being back to our recent rating of excellent. We did not had complaints about some of the other topics you mentioned and will work through it with our Maintenance Team to solve them. Of course we are very sorry that your stay was not satisfying. We would have loved being made aware of some complaints during your stay as these would have been easy to solve. Again, thank you for this review and choosing your words in a professional manner. As you are not living too far away we would be absolutely thrilled to make up for this experience.
