I will start with the good. The lady at reception was very nice and friendly. The surrounding area was very beautiful and the most prettiest rain forest I have ever seen. We did see platypus and got some good photos, you must be very quiet and patient, but the rewards are fantasic.

Now for the not so good. The room (we had a double room) was depressing, it looked like not a cent had been spent on the rooms in 40 years, and yet they charge 140 a night during the week or 160 a night on the week end, I am glad we weren't there on a week end. I know we are living in unusual times, but there are things I just don't understand. You could only get take away food from the restaurant, you had to collect it from the restaurant and yet you couldn't sit in the restaurant. At the same time, they said the bar was open (go figure). So anyway, the food was good (no complant about taste or quanity), but over priced. It still cost $30 for a chiken and salad which I had to eat out of a foam box in the very drab room. We would have eaten it on the veranda, but it was dark and there was no light. I think if you are not eating in the restaurant where you get service etc, they shouldn't charge the same price for the food. They weren't serving breakfast , but luckily I asked when booking, so managed to get some supplies at the bottom of the mountain before we arrived.

We too, were on a road trip to help tourism in our lovely state of Queensland as we were supposed to be in Europe. ( like alot of others)

ps. I have never rated a place as average before (Broken mountain), I usually rate them as excellent and sometimes very good. I am normally easily pleased, so this experience has surprised me.

Eungella and surroundings are a fabulous find with excellent rainforest and outstanding views. We actually came for the rainforest birds so finding platypus almost on our doorstep was a bonus. Near the resort there's a boardwalk along the river with platypus viewing points and we had success in seeing them at several points in late afternoon. The grounds of the resort are home to many species of birds and a short drive away there's beautiful rainforest along Diggings Road where we found Eungella honeyeater, fruit doves and pitas, among other species. I recommend traveling with your own food supplies - our room had a large fridge and a quite well-equipped kitchen. We didn't need the pot-belly stove that was in our room but can imagine enjoying that in colder months.

Still a nice place to stay however the rooms really are in need of bringing into the 2020's. It isn't cheap to stay so the average guest these days does expect a little more than 1980s standards.

That said, the environment around the resort is great and you would have to be very unlucky not to see a platypus or three. Lovey in winter with fires, bird life and a wine.

Quite disappointing to not be able to check-in until 2.35pm. Guys if we could offer a suggestion and ask in you reservation process as to what time the guests would expect to arrive. It is rather frustrating as a local to have the last room ready, wait around to have a late check-in and then see other streaming in after 6pm. If you ask the question it would make folk like us much happier as you could prepare rooms in order of expected arrival rather than number order.

Enough about that....a really enjoyable weekend was had.

Will we go back? A tricky one I guess. We have stayed 4 times before over the years and to be honest, until the rooms have at least a small make-over I think we won't return considering the price.

The location of the property is unique and there is no similar alternative, I understand this is how they can charge $280/night for a 3 star 'cabin'. First the good things:

Location for platypus viewing and rainforest walks was exceptional, we saw many platypus which was the reason for the visit
Air conditioning in the main area
Big fridge
Staff all friendly

Its all downhill from here, these are the main things of concern:
It would have been nice to have a latch on the door to the toilet so that you don't have to use your feet to hold it shut. Call me old fashioned but I expect doors to toilets facing the lounge room to be able to be closed property. I did talk to someone about this and told that they were aware of the issue and it will be fixed in due course. (Refer again to the rate per night!). I was frustrated that we were given this cabin for 3 nights.
The kids bunk beds were bordering on being unsafe (rocking excessively) we got both our children to sleep on the bottom bunks.
There was rubbish left in the bins from the previous tennants
The cabin was overall dirty, the curtains and carpets looked 30+ years old
One of the stove burners didn't work
TV didn't work well due to signal
Not enough seating for 4 in the lounge room
Hot water limitation requires staggering showers at least 20 mins apart
Bed was very uncomfortable

I don't like complaining but feel that people should be informed of what they can expect when being charged these fees.

Thank you for taking the time for this review. Of course we are always more happy about a great score but this gives a the chance to look into some of the issues. We do understand your complaint about the toilet door. This happened to the guests staying right before you and did not give us enough time for fixing it. We could not relocate you to another cabin as this style was completely booked during the school holidays. We do apologize for not communicating this to you clearly. We did check on the Bunk Beds already and solved the problem by just tightening the screws of the otherwise very sturdy beds. We implemented a task for our cleaning personnel to check regularly. The cleanliness of the cabins was always something we were very proud of and as we located were the problem was recently, we addressed this and are confident we are being back to our recent rating of excellent. We did not had complaints about some of the other topics you mentioned and will work through it with our Maintenance Team to solve them. Of course we are very sorry that your stay was not satisfying. We would have loved being made aware of some complaints during your stay as these would have been easy to solve. Again, thank you for this review and choosing your words in a professional manner. As you are not living too far away we would be absolutely thrilled to make up for this experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay here in a one bedroom apartment. Yes, things are aged but in a place like Broken River you can't expect anything too flash. It was all clean and comfortable. And so peaceful and quiet - we loved sitting on our private balcony listening to the birds.
Had a meal in the restaurant on the Saturday night and everyone we spoke to raved on about their delicious meal. No, it is not cheap but they have a limited clientele. They provide take away during the week.
Wifi is available in the restaurant/lounge area.
They provide a complimentary drop off to the start of some walks so you are able to just do it one way. That makes a huge difference.
Easy walking to the platypus viewing and we saw them every time we went out. You have to be patient of course (or lucky!)
We are in our late 60s and did all the walks in the area and didn't have any problems. For some reason they are made to sound arduous but they were quite okay for anyone moderately fit.
Be aware that you need to bring ALL your food/grog as Eungella General Store is closed, so Finch Hatten is the closest - maybe 30 minutes away. You can buy milk and some confectionery at reception but that's about it.
Overall we loved our stay here.

A very relaxing resort just outside the National park. Easy walk to at least three platypus viewing areas as well as being surrounded by trees than resound to the sounds of happy birds. The cabins are clean and well presented; some have cooking facilities. There are several cabin designs so choose the one that suits you. This visit, the restaurant was only open for 2 nights but the kitchen prepares meals that are delivered to your cabin on the other nights. prior choice of meals is required. The meals were excellent (cooked by Joe). The whole steamed baby barramundi in spring onions and ginger is still available and is a high-light of the menu. We were fortunate that the "soup of the day" was a Northern Chinese version of Hot and sour soup (a favourite of mine). The menu includes standard favourites as well as a selection of less usual Chinese dishes (The name may be the same as the corner Chinese restaurant but the flavours are not - they are exquisite! Limited wine choice but not hard to find one suitable for your palate. Heading back next year! Covid precautions are taken seriously!! Staff very friendly and helpful.

Nice, quiet cabins set in a pleasant surround right beside Broken River, you couldn’t be closer to the action.

It is an easy walk to the platypus viewing platforms.

The rooms are rustic and showing their age a bit, but pleasant enough and quiet, apart from the possums running over the roof at night! Plenty of birds in the many trees throughout the resort. Wifi was available for a small fee, or free at the lounge and was fast.

The add said there is restaurant but it was closed only offering take away at full service prices. Just as well the Chalet down the road provided good food otherwise we would have had no choice but to eat in. The environment is lovely and very much enjoyed the area. The two bedroom lodge was a 1970s style but in good order, clean and comfortable. Again the add indicated wifi. Yes but a 150mb limit is hardly wifi in 2021 and seemed to be turned off late in the evening. We were told to sit in the restaurant area to use its wifi. All a bit much in this day and age, especially when there is no phone coverage to use my own data and service provider. Overall does not offer what it advertised and rather spoiled what could have been a great experience.

We stayed in the echidna lodge on a friday night, it was a really cozy room with a fireplace with plenty of firewood, we found it very peaceful with a romantic/mountain atmosphere. The dinner was quite special with a lovely fireplace and cosy couches..we had a seat right in front of the possum feeding area which we really enjoyed.

If you are looking for a luxury getaway, then this is not the place to go however, if you are going to get back to nature, hike and see platypus playing, then this is definitely the place. The room/cabin was comfortable but quite dated, the grounds were well kept and particularly lovely our first night as the fog/clouds rolled in and left the area feeling quite mystical. Spotting platypus in the river was quite easy and I think possible to do most days during the correct times. There are many hikes that can be done in the area, but not many shops, so bring food with you. Although there is a restaurant which we went to one night. The food was lovely and the restaurant was an experience. Great staff.
