Broken River Mountain Resort, in the cool mountain tranquillity of Eungella National Park, is both a retreat from Queensland’s tropical heat and the world’s best location to see platypus in the wild, and it is more than just a unique wildlife experience. With exceptional cuisine from an acclaimed chef, and a choice of lodge or studio accommodation, it offers you a unique high life experience as well. An eco-resort where you can take a self drive 4WD excursion in the morning, a romantic stroll through the rainforest in the afternoon, see platypus feeding at sunset, and enjoy absolutely brilliant cuisine every night. How cool is that? Eco Tourism is ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that foster environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation.

Had no dramas checking in or leaving before reception opened after 2 nights. We booked a cabin with double bed and bunk beds (which were in fully self contained kitchen/lounge area). Clean cabin upon arrival and instructions in the compendium within the room were clear about rubbish and recycling (you are in a national park, so no problems for us). Bathroom needs a little tlc, shower was large. LOVED water from kitchen tap - tank; love the taste compared with city water supplies. As we brought breakfast and lunch supplies at Marian Woolworths, we only used takeaway dinner (restaurant was closed Sunday evening) which had large portions and was quite nice. Pool was used once - it was good for teenager to do laps in. Platypus (what everyone comes for along with tracks) - do not have to wait long to see various types of birds along the tracks to the viewing platforms (for platypus), turtles and platypus. Max 15 mins. Follow the bubbles or muddied waters where platypus are foraging for food. I went night spotting (reception told me where to go and provided me with a powerful torch - guide ill that night). Saw possum and a few wallabies (Mums and joeys) near clearing near car park on other side of bridge (other side of road from cafe parking). We did not use walking tracks but they were well sign-posted. Reception - lots of info and some tourist trinkets to purchase along with snacks and Rid (if you forgot it!) Would stay here again when next in the region.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay here in a one bedroom apartment. Yes, things are aged but in a place like Broken River you can't expect anything too flash. It was all clean and comfortable. And so peaceful and quiet - we loved sitting on our private balcony listening to the birds. Had a meal in the restaurant on the Saturday night and everyone we spoke to raved on about their delicious meal. No, it is not cheap but they have a limited clientele. They provide take away during the week. Wifi is available in the restaurant/lounge area. They provide a complimentary drop off to the start of some walks so you are able to just do it one way. That makes a huge difference. Easy walking to the platypus viewing and we saw them every time we went out. You have to be patient of course (or lucky!) We are in our late 60s and did all the walks in the area and didn't have any problems. For some reason they are made to sound arduous but they were quite okay for anyone moderately fit. Be aware that you need to bring ALL your food/grog as Eungella General Store is closed, so Finch Hatten is the closest - maybe 30 minutes away. You can buy milk and some confectionery at reception but that's about it. Overall we loved our stay here.

Yes I agree with some of the reviews, don’t expect a luxury suite more of a rustic cabin, clean and comfortable but agree could do with some updating. Beautiful kept gardens and a place to relax . Swimming pool available but did not use . We spent a weekend and ate at the restaurant one of the nights. Lovely authentic Chinese food. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Wifi was a bit hit and miss due to location not the resort fault, sometimes that’s a well needed break from today’s technology. A short walk to the platypus viewing, we were able to see quite a few but need to be patient. I can’t wait to go back and spend more time in this relaxing spot.

The add said there is restaurant but it was closed only offering take away at full service prices. Just as well the Chalet down the road provided good food otherwise we would have had no choice but to eat in. The environment is lovely and very much enjoyed the area. The two bedroom lodge was a 1970s style but in good order, clean and comfortable. Again the add indicated wifi. Yes but a 150mb limit is hardly wifi in 2021 and seemed to be turned off late in the evening. We were told to sit in the restaurant area to use its wifi. All a bit much in this day and age, especially when there is no phone coverage to use my own data and service provider. Overall does not offer what it advertised and rather spoiled what could have been a great experience.

We were happy with our chalet (despite the cold) although it was not entirely as described (not on ground floor, not carpeted, etc). The most disappointing thing was that the restaurant was closed and all they were offering was take out. So we ordered take out food and it was absolutely awful. My salt and pepper squid had no taste apart from the Chinese five-spice. I did not want Chinese squid. My wife had chicken with honey sesame. First, she was supplied with some rice dish. That was then replaced and it was extremely greasy, apparently made with reconstituted chicken buried in batter. The most disgusting meal we have had for ages. I contacted the resort to report the terrible meals. Their response was to offer a voucher to be used in future at the resort. Since I would never go back there again, I declined this useless offer.
