Seriously, this place is a gem!!! Reasonably priced, stunningly historically beautiful, well located, and did I mention beautiful? Designed by Julia Morgan (architect of Hearst Castle fame) originally as a women's club, it has the feel of a monastery or nunnery. Great nooks and crannies to explore, great free breakfast, and photo ops galore. And the pool should be declared...

Had a room on the 3rd floor. Very clean and the linens (bed and bath) were exquisite. The bed was a full, not queen or king which makes it cramped. The room was small but adequate for a short stay. I don't watch much TV so didn't miss it. The bathroom was quite dated but functional and clean. Nice that...

We had a room on the 4th floor that was comfortable, even if the bed was only a double. This is a beautiful building with a tiled indoor swimming pool, perhaps modeled after San Simeon. The feeling is that of a good (not great) hotel 100 years ago with no TVs or other distractions. The breakfast is simple but good,...

We stayed in a suite in the top floor. The heating is centralized for the entire building, so it was cold during the day and even colder at night - with not enough blankets on the bed. Also the radiator pipes made extremely loud banging noises sporadically throughout the night, which kept waking us up and scaring my daughter. There...

Dear Michelle V, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. It is unfortunate that you did not enjoy your stay with us. In our historic building, it is sometimes difficult to regulate the temperature throughout. Though it is not helpful at this time, inside the closet of each room are both a small heater and additional blankets. It is...

Stayed here one night on business. I thought the hotel was great. It was like stepping back in time. Everything thing was clean and the bed was comfortable. Beautiful hotel. Great location. I would stay here again.

The first two floors of the hotel are interesting being a Julia Morgan design based on medieval cloisters, with vaulted ceilings, carved columns etc. However, the upper floors don't really follow that theme and they just become a dated 1920s concrete affair. The building is worth a visit, but I don't think I'd stay again. The location is good if...

Interesting club-like atmosphere that is set near Berkeley. Room on third floor was not great, with a tiny sink and two faucets that really should be updated. The people who staff the club were very friendly and inviting. The architecture is truly something special.

What a wonderful rich weekend at the Berkeley City Club. It was like taking a step back in time. The building itself is rich in architectural history, with the decor following suit. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly but without being too much so. I will definitely be looking for another weekend away. The location couldn't be...

We didn't know anything about this hotel but my husband found a good deal online and we jumped on it, since the location was right in the heart of downtown Berkeley. We loved it! Had no idea it was designed by Julia Morgan, who also did Hearst Castle - and we were headed there a little later on our Pacific...

We picked this hotel for the location but it is so much more than just a great location. It is a historical architectural wonder.
