We held our wedding and reception here 3 years ago, and have stayed over several times since. Their venue rental and catering were exceptional. The Berkeley City Club is a beautiful, well appointed, tastefully furnished, memorable venue. The food was above average, the staff seamless and invisible (in a good way... things just magically appeared where they were supposed to...

This is a beautiful historic hotel. Julia's restaurant was outstanding. Unfortunately, there was a heater in our room which we could not control or turn off. Front desk informed us there were fans in the closet if needed. Also, it is a bit far from Memorial Stadium, so if you are attending graduation, it may be best to park closer...

Dear kdeblue, Thank you so very much for your kind review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay, albeit the warm room you experienced. Usually Berkeley tends to cool down at night, but heading into summer, things can be unpredictable, but the fans do help. Truly wishing you the best in your travels and congratulations on the recent graduate....

You can't beat this hotel's location. We came for a graduation and this location is closer to campus than some of the dorms. It's a nice old building and it is historic but it needs so much work to make this a 5 star hotel. The lack of tv didn't bother us but it would have been nice to have....

Dear princesschabebe, Thank you so very much for your review. At this time, our hotel rooms are currently undergoing upgrades. With a historic building, some things just take us a little bit more time. I am happy to pass along the items that you mentioned that can possibly be remedied. We truly wish you the best in your travels and...

What a glorious hotel. It is spectacular, the public spaces are so beautiful. The staff is also very friendly and accomodating. Close to BART and the Berkeley Campus, there is no better place to stay in the Bay Area.

nice building in a very nice location. All the charm though is @ the facade old, smelly carpets and curtains staff seemed bother to be asked, or too tired to reply to you. One of the worse services I have experienced in the states

I was in Berkeley for business and this hotel was booked for me. It is a beautiful historic building. I stayed in 407. It is fairly small, with nice view from the window. You could easily walk to the campus or downtown, so the location is convenient. 407 leaks with smoking smell. I asked for air freshener and sprayed it...

The Berkeley City Club is a well-known historical landmark in downtown Berkeley. The hotel, built in the Neo-Moorish style of the 1920s, was designed by a woman architect for women. I believe it was originally called the Berkeley Women's Club. The hotel has been well taken care of and all the original decorations are still there. It's on a quiet...

Seriously, this place is a gem!!! Reasonably priced, stunningly historically beautiful, well located, and did I mention beautiful? Designed by Julia Morgan (architect of Hearst Castle fame) originally as a women's club, it has the feel of a monastery or nunnery. Great nooks and crannies to explore, great free breakfast, and photo ops galore. And the pool should be declared...

Had a room on the 3rd floor. Very clean and the linens (bed and bath) were exquisite. The bed was a full, not queen or king which makes it cramped. The room was small but adequate for a short stay. I don't watch much TV so didn't miss it. The bathroom was quite dated but functional and clean. Nice that...

We had a room on the 4th floor that was comfortable, even if the bed was only a double. This is a beautiful building with a tiled indoor swimming pool, perhaps modeled after San Simeon. The Berkeley City Club was elaborately crafted by architect Julia Morgan. Carved archways, vaulted ceilings, an indoor mosaic tiled swimming, and leaded-glass windows overlooking lush courtyards give the building its unique old world charm. The Berkeley City Club boasts six floors of classically designed standard, junior suite and suite size hotel rooms. Experience breathtaking views from each room, whether its the iconic fog rolling in over the San Francisco bay or the beautiful sunrises over the Berkeley Hills. Enjoy complimentary breakfast, including fresh fruit, toast, bagels, pastries, hard-boiled eggs, oatmeal, yogurt and juice. For entertainment, check out special member events, fitness classes, theater performances, salon services, lounge hours and dining in the restaurant, Julia's or visit local Berkeley attractions just steps away from the Club. ... more   less
