I wish there was a 6* rating for the Holde de l'Orange as I think this place is really extraordinary! The location is amazing -overlooking the town, an old mansion very well refurbished with buckets of charm. The warmth of the owners is unique too. By sheer luck, we ended up renting all the rooms in the hotel for a family reunion and it felt like we were staying in the family house. Particular stunning is the swimming pool and the breakfast outside in the garden. Only two things to note: the property would be challenging for people with limited mobility, and the parking is hellish (very narrow and steep streets).

I'm more used to staying in large, international hotels, and to doing busy, packed holidays. We stayed here for a friend's wedding nearby and spent 5 days in total. This is a very cute, quiet and shabby chic hotel. It dates from 1610 and still has a lot of the historical charm from then. The room we stayed in was a very decent size, comfy bed, decent bath/shower and good shutters to keep the light out. There's no TV or wifi in the room which didn't matter to us. The roof terrace is what really made this for us, I've never been one to just do nothing on holiday, but lying in the sun on this peaceful roof garden surrounded by greenery, flowers and the pool was very relaxing indeed. Also, the wine helped! There is a fantastic view over the old Sommiers roof tops which is worth its weight in gold. The owners, Tom and Liz are lovely, very helpful, hospitable and welcoming. They clearly enjoy running this tranquil little place. Breakfast is very continental, so don't expect a full English or fry up. It's fruit, bread and yogurt. Very tasty. We loved the hotel and Sommiers and will definitely be back next year.

We stayed here for 2 nights with our friends with a baby. Liz and Tom were the best hosts, making us feel welcomed and at home. We didn't want to leave! The rooms were fantastic - so much character and space. Really clean. The honey shower gel was incredible. The whole building is just stunning, especially the views from the top where the swimming pool is. It is the ideal location to get into Sommiere. You can go down to the original doorway and see the old well where minerals have formed - the building is just so fascinating. It's really peaceful and we felt immediately relaxed. The breakfast was really tasty - delicious coffee, fresh fruit, bread and jams. We can't wait to go back! For us it was the helpfulness and welcome feeling we had from Liz and Tom! Would definitely recommend!

A short winter visit in this historic house - full of stunning original details and a real sense of place, Tom and Liz are amazing hosts that really take care of you and welcome you into their stunning large home. The highlight are the rooms - huge rooms with sumptuous beds, beautiful antique linen, wonderful large bathrooms and as clean as a Swiss clinic - perfect. A great place for a long weekend with friends and family in the Winter months - flights are cheap and Montpellier is half an hour away. Planning to go in the Summer, a really welcoming homely place with five star attention to detail.

It is essential to navigate to 10 rue Chemin du Chateau Fort if you are in the car. The address on Baumes is a pedestrian entrance. Returning from two weeks in France this is the hotel we will always remember. It is not strictly a Hotel but rather a B and B or small Inn. Fussy travelers need not apply; for those with a sense of adventure it is a gem. The Inn is a mission of invention on the part of the gracious owners Liz and Tom. They bought the 400 year old house three years ago. It already had a history as a lodging. There is no front desk or concierge, there is Liz and Tom and they are British but highly international and urbane. The rooms are large and the town is an excellent base especially by car. An integrated GPS is advised but a phone can work for navigation. There is no TV here, everything harkens back to a time of human conversation. The pool is solar heated and was swimmable in early October. There is no Hot Tub but that's not a surprise in Europe. Once you are in the town you can see everything and go out for meals by foot. We will never forget the hospitality and human warmth... just remember that Liz and Tom also have a business to run and lives to lead. WiFi works best in the common area and living room.
