Paradisus Palma Real Golf & Spa Resort is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, complete with diverse music and activities, although a few guests would appreciate a broader musical selection. While the concierge and staff are often commended for their attentive service, some visitors have encountered issues with slow and unprofessional service. Room experiences vary, with comfortable accommodations sometimes marred by reservation and maintenance problems. The resort's cleanliness is generally applauded, yet housekeeping can be inconsistent. Amenities like the beautiful beach and pools are highlights, but service can be hit or miss. The resort's beachfront location is a favorite for its stunning views, but the value proposition has been questioned due to high costs and underwhelming food quality.

This is my honest review of the resort. We stayed at the Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort between November 20-25th. The resort itself is beautiful. Check-in was easy, there was no line (we arrived at 4PM-ish). While checking in, a server brought us a drink from the 24-hour Ginger bar. One of the first questions I asked the concierge was how to make dinner reservations. He explained dinner reservations were made at the desk in front of The Lunch Box buffet restaurant every day between 7:00AM to 5:00PM. After we dropped off our stuff in our room (we were staying in a Master Suite Swim-up), I immediately headed to the dinner reservation desk. All restaurants were booked for that night. However, the dinner reservation booker woman explained you can eat at Tokimeku (asian cuisine) al a carte menu without a reservation. You couldn’t eat at their hibachi tables without a reservation. I proceeded to book a reservation for the next three days out (so for the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd). You can only book three-days out because I tried to make a reservation for the 24th and she wouldn’t let me. She explained to come the following morning at 7AM to make the reservation for the 24th. The only place I really wanted to eat at was the steakhouse Mina. The only day available for two-people they had was on 23rd at 9PM (I booked that reservation but ended up canceling because of the time). Our dinner reservations: 21st - Flora (Dominican cuisine), 22nd - Blue Agave (Mexican cuisine), 24th - Mascalzone (Italian cuisine). On the 23rd we ate at Tokimeku’s al a carte menu without a reservation. I would say our least favorite restaurant was Tokimeku and our favorite restaurants were Blue Agave and Madcalzone.

My only complaint I have is how cut throat/stressful the dinner reservation process is. The morning of the 21st at 7AM, I went to the dinner reservation desk and there was no one working it. I asked a server from The Lunch Box what time the dinner reservation desk would be open — he said at 9AM. At 8:30, my family and I went to The Lunch Box for breakfast and the dinner reservation desk was opened. I asked the booker (this time a different woman) what time she had opened and she said at 8AM. I tried to book Mina for the 24th, however all the time slots were booked except for 9PM. The dinner reservation process is either rigged or Mina is that popular that within 30 mins, all the other guests were able to book better time slots.

On another note, the service was great — bartenders and servers were extremely friendly. The resort does have baby cribs. The resort does have a convenient store but the prices to some items were high. For Tampax Pearl 34-count cost $32 (I opted for the less pricey Playtex). They do have a photographer at the resort — getting the pictures taken are free, each digital print cost $25.

Dear Madam, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It's heartwarming to hear that our resort's beauty and the ease of check-in complemented your stay, offering a taste of the sophisticated luxury we strive for. We're thrilled that our diverse culinary options, especially Blue Agave and Mascalzone, were inviting and provided memorable dining experiences. It's delightful to know that our team's friendly service added to the relaxed and carefree vibe of your vacation. On the other hand, we acknowledge the challenge you faced with the dinner reservation process and understand that it may have caused some inconvenience. We are constantly evaluating guest feedback to create a more harmonious experience and are mindful of the need for a seamless booking experience that allows our guests to immerse themselves in the tropical allure of our resort without any stress. Our on-site store is indeed a convenient touch for any essentials our guests may need, and we're glad you found our photography service to be a valuable addition, capturing the inspiring moments of your stay. It would be a pleasure to welcome you back. Best wishes, Juan Carlos Lloret Resident Manager Paradisus Palma Real

Paradisus Palma Real
April 22-30

Check-in:
This resort is stunning! The view when entering is breathtaking, elegant and welcoming. There is a direct view from the lobby to the ocean.

Upon arrival, we were escorted to the Reserve (Adult only) check-in area where we were offered a welcome drink. We signed our check-in agreement and received our bracelets which double as a room key. We were met by our concierge Starlin and escorted to our room.

Room:
Our room 7102 was the Reserve swim up Jr suite. The room was beautiful. It had a modern decor with neutral tones that created a very relaxing space. There was plenty of closet and drawer space for our belongings. The room included robes, slippers, and an umbrella. The mini refrigerator included water, beer, soda, juices and snacks. Additionally, we were given welcome plate of chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of merlot. There was also a bottle of Rum and Mamajuana in the room. The bed sat a bit high off the ground (I’m short) but it was very comfortable and we both slept well every night. The room was a bit warm for me, I called the front desk and they were able to lower the temperature.
The room walked out to a patio that contained 2 pool lounge chairs and an umbrella for shade, with direct pool access. This pool was amazing and was always the perfect temperature. The only downside to this was that on 3 different occasions we found other guests using our patio lounge chairs. This room location was very close to the beach and the adults only “Wanda bar.”

Also a must mention- excellent Wi-Fi through-out the resort and beach! We streamed video in our room at night before bed with no interruptions.

Pools:
There were 3 separate adult pools. There was one large Freeform adult only pool with a swim up bar and plenty of chairs and umbrellas. The other 2 pools were were part of the swim-up suites. The pool closest to the beach is home to water activities such as aqua-gym. There is also a very large family pool with a swim up bar in the center of the resort near the beach. Still other pools are located on the family side of the resort with swim up room options as well.

Restaurants:
Mina: My husband had the t-bone (extra charge) and I had the veal. The food was good but we were so tired from traveling all day, I really don’t remember much of this experience. The wait staff was excellent.

Mascalzone: My husband had the ravioli and I had the lasagna. The lasagna was very rich, it was good but I couldn’t eat more than 4 bites. My husband ate all of his ravioli and the rest of my lasagna. Excellent service, wine and food!

Tokimeku: My husband had short ribs that were excellent. I had a sushi roll. Not too bad.

Blue Agave: I had the meatballs, which were very spicy. My husband had an assortment of tacos, they were very good.

Winery: EXCELLENT diner!!! This was the best meals of all time! Steak, fish, potatoes and vegetable on a board (see photo). This was my birthday dinner, they sang and brought me a cake. Perfect evening beyond words. The Jonathons were on top of everything!

Malva: The food here was ok, my steak was a bit hard to chew for me, but the potatoes were excellent and the wait staff were on top of it!

Sante: This is one of our favorite places. We had breakfast here most mornings. We also had dinner here one evening and had steak and lobster. Lobster was so good, I was full and couldn’t eat the steak. The next time for dinner, I had pasta with shrimp and my husband had ribs he loved them!! They also have a Sunday brunch that is excellent!!

Flora: We had lunch at Flora one day, had the jerk chicken, it was excellent!

The Lunch Box: Yanira is the best! She always recognizes us each time we return! She is always happy to see us and makes us feel at home! We ate at this location for breakfast and lunch. Wide variety of foods to choose from and the staff was excellent!

Kanna Beach Club: This has your typical American cuisine, hamburgers, wings, hotdogs, Quesadillas, great comfort food. The wings were my husbands favorite!

Kicks Sports Bar: This place is the “cheers bar” of the Palma Real, we love our friends (staff) at this bar. They brought me a cake and sang for my birthday and the hugs and genuine care is why I cant wait to go back!! The attention to detail was phenomenal! EVER SINGLE one of them treated us like family! We also participated in a mixology class in this bar one afternoon. It was so fun! Shout out to Andreina, Victor, Miguel and Fiol, thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality!

Wanda Bar: Wanda kept us laughing and made drinks with a smile! She was there from 6am to 6pm every day! Also if you have an upset stomach talk to Wanda, she has the cure! It may not taste great, but IT WORKS (yes my husbands knows this from experience!)

Entertainment: Every evening they had something is the square. One night they had telescopes, got some great detailed photos of the moon. They also had bands, singers, dancers, fire twirlers and over the water acrobats. Also kicks had a DJ or band later in the evening. Kicks also had any and every game or sporting event on their TVs.

Beach: The beach is my happy place! Pedro at the beach kept us laughing and was on top of everything! Unfortunately Mother Nature struck and the sargasso was challenging, yes the resort did their best to clean it up. Pedro even brought us plenty of Mimosas’ and flowers for my birthday!

Spa: Good massage, wish they had hydrotherapy at this resort.

Golf: Just a quick shuttle ride to the gold course(0.8 miles), if you are staying at Palma Real you just need to cover your cart fees. If you have your own clubs, bring them, rentals available if needed. Beautiful golf course! There are 27 holes, driving range and putting greens. Well manicured course. Easy to sign up for tee time on the website, they pick you up and go!

Above and beyond for my 55th birthday!! Please see the video! Starlin and Yaleidi, were excellent concierges!! Our room was decorated with balloons, streamers, flowers, desserts and champagne! The bathtub had flower pedals as well as the bed! We also had turn down service that night with chocolates on the pillows! The attention to detail was amazing!!

Negatives: Just a few brief points:
Random people on our patio swim up loungers on multiple occasions.
wish turndown service was every night (feeling spoiled asking for this one).

Summary: This vacation went by too fast, we cant wait to go back and see our family! This was so amazing I don’t have words. The food was better than we remembered. We have been to this resort a few times, but this was our first visit since the renovations, love the updates! Yanira is excellent at the Lunch box! Pedro at the beach also excellent! Starlin and Yaleidi excellent concierges’, always available when needed! Kicks family, Adreina, Fiol, Victor and Miguel, cant wait to see you again!
What we love the most, is the staff remember us from previous visits.

Highly recommend this resort for the attention to detail!

I really enjoyed the service, the room (Master suite deluxe), the live entertainment at night, and the restaurants for dinner were great (food, service and decor). The hotel also has a lovely convenient layout, with everything next to each other and you almost always have a view of the beach from the outdoors. The beds are comfortable and housekeeping did a great job. We enjoyed the drinks and smoothies offered across the hotel. The staff at the main buffet, restaurants, coffee and snack bar were great with us and the kids. They worked really hard and always gave us a smile and took care of us very well. We appreciated that the shore’s seaweed on the beach was cleaned every morning. We also liked the range of activities offered: there’s a full activity schedule for day and night for the three 3 age groups (children, teens, adults). We found the resort to be extremely stroller friendly.

A huge shoutout to breakfast buffet staff, they were amazing, kind, fast, hard working, and always put a smile on the kids and our faces! Ricki from the buffet was my absolutely favourite!!!! He always went above and beyond to make our experience great - he made our trip 10x better with his great service!!

If I could make a few important recommendations for improvement:

1) The check-in process, It took 5+ hours to check us in, and during the process they kept telling us the room would be ready soon. We stayed in the lobby during the whole duration because they kept calling us over and telling us the room would be ready in another 20-30 minutes. They did this at least 10 times. The manager came out and continued this charade of “another 20 more minutes”. It was a very frustrating experience. When they finally had a room available, it was a downgrade from what we had paid for (they wanted to give us a 2 bedroom master suite instead of 2 master suites!). Then they tried to offer us 1 king bed instead of two double beds but we were 4 people in a room. It was a pretty bad experience, we stayed in the lobby, sweating, with kids and babies until 6 PM.
2) The buffet food was a safety hazzard. The food was not at the right temperature (everything was room temperature, even the cheese and yogurts). The counters of the buffet need to be upgraded with the appropriate pans and set-up to keep food warm / cold. I found the layout of the food to be really weird, all the food at different heights on different size bowls and trays, and covered in sauces. To be safe, I stuck to mainly eating the freshly grilled foods and the fruits, and luckily the restaurants were fantastic for dinner.
3) Reduce cockroaches in rooms. On our 5th day we encountered many cockroaches in the hallway and then suddenly in our room. We reported it to house keeping and they came to fumigate.

Overall, this is a great hotel but we would like to see these points fixed to consider coming back.

Dear Nathalie, Thank you for the time taken to share your experience of staying with us. Our team is thrilled to know that the live entertainment, dinner options, and the comfort of our Master Suite Deluxe added to the enjoyment of your stay, reflecting the luxurious and elegant atmosphere we strive for. The commendations for our hardworking and kind buffet staff, especially Ricki, are truly inspiring, and we're glad that our harmonious layout and the carefree vibe of our tropical environment resonated with you. We're also pleased that our efforts in maintaining our beach and providing a diverse range of activities contributed to a memorable visit. We sincerely regret the inconvenience faced during the check-in process and the concerns you have raised about food safety and the unexpected visitors in your room. Please rest assured that we are ever-mindful of our guests' comfort and such experiences are not reflective of the high standards we aim to uphold. Our recent renovation in December 2022 was a step towards enhancing the sophistication and elegance of our resort. We will continue to work towards creating an inviting and relaxed atmosphere for all our esteemed guests. It is gratifying to learn that the overall impression of our hotel was positive, and we appreciate your valuable suggestions which help us in our continuous commitment to improvement and excellence. The entire team really hope we can welcome you back on a future occasion. Kindest regards, Juan Carlos Lloret Resident Manager Paradisus Palma Real

We recently stayed at this resort and were left disappointed by various aspects of the experience. While the rooms have been updated recently, many features were either broken or run-down. The bathroom and walk-in closet doors wouldn't close properly, and the patio door didn't work, which limited our access to the outdoor space we were looking forward to. The AC system was also a problem—it wasn’t adjustable, maintaining a chilly 18°C at all times, which made the room uncomfortably cold, especially for families with kids.

Housekeeping was subpar, particularly at night. We requested that the sofa bed be made up for our child every night, but each time, we had to call repeatedly, and no one would show up for an hour or more. This lack of attention was frustrating and left us feeling neglected by the staff. Furthermore, the concierge service, which initially came across as helpful, turned out to be more focused on selling a timeshare-like membership than addressing any of our actual needs. It was clear that their friendliness was more about getting us into a presentation than providing genuine assistance.

Dining options were also limited and disappointing. More than half of the restaurants were closed most nights, restricting us to only a few places. The hostess at Flore restaurant was especially rude—she even skipped over us in line to serve people who arrived after us. This level of poor service is unacceptable, especially given the resort’s premium pricing. The buffet lacked variety, with the same vegetarian options repeated daily, and while the desserts were visually appealing, they all tasted the same. If you’re seeking flavorful cuisine, particularly Indian or Thai options, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

A few positive notes: Miguel, a bartender at the restaurant, was fantastic. He was attentive and welcoming, standing out from the otherwise lackluster service. However, restaurant reservations were another hassle; they had to be made in advance, and though some restaurants appeared empty, they still wouldn’t take walk-ins. The main buffet was closed for dinner every night, which limited our options further.

Overall, this resort has declined significantly since our last visit. Unfortunately, with such deterioration in service, food quality, and room conditions, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

While the facilities are excellent, the customer service and attention to detail need improvement. We are still at the resort and it took multiple calls and trips to the front desk to have our AC fixed. Housekeeping took our trash can when they cleaned the room and called multiple times for a trash can. No hangers in the room and had to ask multiple times for some. Couldn’t get into our room because our bracelets stopped working. Spoke with the Guest Services Supervisor regarding a little cake to wish my daughter a happy birthday, said it would be at dinner tonight, restaurant was unaware.

My parents are staying in The Reserve and we had to make numerous calls and trips to the front desk to get their refrigerator fixed. They went to the adults only buffet for breakfast this morning and was told it was reservations only. The restaurant was empty and the directory says it’s a buffet but they couldn’t eat there. Parents are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary and asked the same Guest Services Supervisor for a special celebration. Said Bottle of wine, small desserts/chocolates, etc. would be in their room by 12pm today but they received nothing.

We are HuGE fans of Paradisus resorts, have stayed at multiple ones but this is the most disappointing one from a customer service aspect.

It's truly heartwarming to hear that you appreciate our elegant and fully renovated facilities, offering a harmonious blend of luxury and colonial style architecture. We're delighted that the pure essence of the tropical Caribbean at our beachfront location has been a highlight of your stay. Our family of 13 picked Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana for our yearly vacation. (We had been going to the Atlantis for last 20 years.). We are all in agreement that this vacation was fantastic and exceeded all our expectations! Rooms are beautiful, clean and spacious. Food was great. Room service 24 hours Cocktails delicious and not watered down or made with cheap stuff. We did not have to worry about the local water and getting sick. We didn’t drink it as there was bottled water whenever we wanted it. The dinner reservations needed at the places other than buffet were tricky first 2 days - you need to make your reservation for following night’s dinner very early (7-8 AM) previous day if you have anyone under 18 in your party. Otherwise if you are in Adults only, I was told you can ask for a private concierge to make all your reservations during your stay. If your booking includes any spa credit or room upgrade credit, you must get these coupons when you check in. Also if you have free transportation to and from airport, you need to email Otium (transportation company) to reserve your rides. They were great with responding to my emails. Casino is off this property at another Paradisus and is very very small if you compare to others like Atlantis. Other than the normal “figuring out a new place”, this Paradisus was a really terrific vacation and value!

There are many all-inclusives in Punta Cana, but most cannot be rated 5. As a frequent traveler, I can say that the experience at Paradisus Palma Real is complete and perfect, as expected from an all-inclusive of this standard. The complex was renovated in 2022. It is an extensive area with gardens, walks, dozens of bars and restaurants, several swimming pools, beach structure, many rooms, spa, an open and charming lobby, convenience and souvenir store, full gym. Everything very well looked after and thought out. We stayed in The Reserve system, adults only, with unique suites, exclusive pool, restaurant and beach club and lots of daily pampering. A charming difference was our private Concierge - Fernando Ducoudray, a cheerful guy who made our stay more pleasant, providing everything we asked for and a little more! High standard food and drinks with lots of options. The nightlife area is the Plaza, a beautiful space with international standard restaurants and bars. The beach with calm and beautiful sea has a structure of huts, sun loungers with mattresses, lifeguards and bars. In the sea there is a system of nets to prevent too much sargassum from reaching the beach, the sand is cleaned daily.
The large suite, with several rooms, including a patio, is very well decorated and pleasant. Very silent. Minibar, Nespresso machine, stocked daily, all included. Robes, slippers, beach towel, quality amenities, ironing steamer and hairdryer. I recommend taking dollars in small bills for tips, they are welcome and deserved.

We spent 6 days and 5 nights at the Paradisus Palma Real. It was a family trip and there were 15 adults. The rooms were beautiful! The beds were so comfortable and the linens were great quality. The room was kept spotless daily by the cleaning staff and the mini bar/fridge was restocked daily. There were also daily snacks left which were a welcome treat when we came in from the beach/pool. All of the staff here was extremely friendly and helpful. Our concierge, Basilio, was an absolute gem! He took care of making sure that our large group was able to eat dinner together every night. He sent us the daily activities every morning and responded to any request in a timely and efficient manner. His help made it possible for our family to relax and enjoy quality family time together. That, in and of itself, was priceless and we look forward to visiting again. We highly recommend the resort!!!

Where to start... We were in the adult section. The rooms are beautiful, the site is beautiful and very quiet with lots of places around the pools and at the beach without having to book very early in the morning. Where things are a little less good is that we had read that there was an adult buffet for those who were in the adult section (not the reserve section) but it was closed. So we had to fall back on the buffet with children.I’m almost 20 trips in all inclusives and this is the first time I’ve come across such COLD food in a buffet. They certainly have a stove problem. All dishes offered are cold or barely warm. If you want to eat hot, you have to get a plate dish made but this means standing in line and waiting. For the evening the à la carte restaurants are excellent but the reservation system is problematic. The first morning we showed up to be told that it was sold out for the next 2 nights and that we had to come back in 2 days to try to book because they accept reservations every 2 days. I went to complain and fortunately Andrès the concierge was able to arrange reservations for me but it’s still a shame that you have to complain in order to have service. In summary I liked the location but I think we can have better for a 5 star in terms of the quality of the buffet and the restaurant reservation system.

The resort is beautiful and well laid out. The property is very clean and beaches are well kept and nice for walking. The food is average for an all inclusive but overall good. Making reservations for the restaurants was frustrating because you could only book 2 days at a time and to try to get in at 7 was near impossible although when you walked by the restaurants at that time they were basically empty? The adult pool was lovely and quiet which was nice after spending a couple of days at the main pool where all of the activities were happening and very loud music! It’s great to have both options. The adult only buffet was closed the entire time we were there which didn’t make sense as we were told the resort was at 85% capacity? Getting chairs around the pools was no problem at all, there were always plenty of them empty. Entertainment in the evenings was good but they could turn the volume down as you couldn’t hear yourself think while it was on.

How much is the golf buggy’s at the nearby golf course. Also is the green fees complimentary per day?
Answer from Karl B

Green fees are reduced but not included must take cart no walking the course. Shuttle runs every 15 minutes and course is only 5 minute drive away. I paid about $90 USD per round and brought my own clubs which saved me a fortune as I had quite a few rounds.

We did not but the beach is fabulous and our kids were happy with the main pool. We’ve stayed at the Grand Cana and my kids preferred the pool.
