Zel Punta Cana is often celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and personalized touches that enhance special celebrations, with many guests appreciating the comfortable spaces. The staff's helpfulness is widely recognized, although there have been some issues with unresponsiveness and aggressive sales practices. In terms of value, opinions vary as some travelers find the amenities outdated and the hidden costs troubling. While the hotel's location offers commendable amenities, the distance from the beach has been a point of contention. Amenities generally receive positive remarks, especially dining options and beach access, but some guests encountered delays with room service and shuttles. Cleanliness is a strong point for Zel Punta Cana, with most visitors satisfied with the maintenance of the grounds and pools, despite a few housekeeping oversights. The rooms are noted for their spaciousness, yet some guests have expressed concerns regarding their dated condition and occasional lack of upkeep.

We stayed at zel punta cana from January 3 to 7, 2025. The hotel was renovated in 2024, everything is spotless, spacious rooms, mini fridge well stocked every day, dedicated staff, smiling for the most part (as in society in general, there are of course some employees who obviously do not appreciate their work.. At the zel, they are very minority). We particularly appreciated the fact that the complex is small, quiet, without the usual alienating music of all-inclusives we knew until now... No queue to book at restaurants, we do it using the whatsapp app ( and besides, the hotel has definitely entered modernity). Beach towels at will, without having to give a deposit of 30 USD/towel (as was the case on previous trips to the Caribbean...). The beach is very beautiful, the sea water a little cloudy, but overall, it was nice to swim there (better than in Riviera Maya, and nothing beats Cuba as far as the clarity of the water... ). The restaurants are very good, we ate good sushi in the south! Music too loud at steak house as well as Japanese. Our favorite: tacorini, as much for the food, the atmosphere, as for the exceptional service of Enrique, Rudy, Abigaël and Luis.
The beach is a 10-minute walk away in an idyllic setting. Otherwise, frequent shuttles. When I see people assigning marks of 1/5 to this complex, I simply do not understand and would invite them to try to improve their ability to nuance things... For our part (3 adults and 2 teenagers), we would return without any hesitation.

Zel Melia is a wonderful hotel with large, spacious rooms and beautiful grounds and beach. I was assigned a personal concierge ,Yohandy de La Cruz who helped us in every way throughout our visit and even took us on an excursion to Macao Beach on his day off.
The personnel working at the hotel are extremely friendly from the servers in the various dining areas to those cleaning the rooms. There is a choice of four different restaurants(Japanese, Steakhouse, Tacorino and Buffet) . This all comes at a very reasonable all-inclusive price for lodging, food and drinks.

Dear Arthur, Thank you very much for this kind review of your recent stay. Your mention of our spacious rooms echoes the homey ambiance we're so proud of, and we're delighted that you found our grounds and beach to be as beautiful as the shores of the Mediterranean. How wonderful that Yohandy de La Cruz, your personal concierge, elevated your stay with his exceptional service and that delightful excursion; he truly embodies the community vibe we cherish. It's heartening to know that the gastronomic joy at our diverse restaurants added a flavor of excitement to your stay. And, of course, the all-inclusive value speaks to our desire to offer unconventional comforts without the Mediterranean price tag! We look forward to seeing you again soon. We stayed at Garden Suites by Melia for 6 days and 5 nights during the month of November. At the beginning of check-in they told us that they had restricted access to the Falcon restaurants (neighboring hotel) but since our reservation was made before that communication emerged, they helped us with all the arrangements. Gustavo de Jesus and Denni Rosario helped us at Guest Service and they were very friendly. The room is huge, the bed is super comfortable, there is air conditioning throughout the room, there is hot water, they have room service (food) included, among other good things. The hotel has many swimming pools and shuttle to Falcon beach or some other neighboring hotels. The beach has super clear and fine sand and the water is turquoise. Very good. I didn't like the restaurants at Garden Suites very much but the ones at Falcon are very good (although I didn't like Alula very much). In general and in summary I recommend the hotel.

Bavaro Beach

Disappointing

At my check-in, I was asked for my VISA credit card which was already used for prepayment and my credit card company billed me. I didn't have the card with me and I was told that although I already paid, I would have to pay again. Fortunately, I had a different card with me and I was able to pay. Hansel at the desk refused to give me a statement that I would receive a refund. I was very upset.
Also, although I had been Melia Punta Cana 19 times previously, when I booked this time I thought I would have a room in the Level area, and I was told it would impossible to change my current reservation.
Although I have previously written many extremely Trip Advisor Reviews, this time it will be very negative

Safe should work.
More hand towels and wash cloths.
There should be night table on both sides of the bed.
The on/off switch for night table lamp should on the lamp, so the guest doesn't have to get out of bed to turn the lamp on or off
The hallway staircase should be illuminated to avoid tripping and falling.
Soap and shampoo dispensers should be in the shower area

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're sorry to hear about the challenges you faced during your stay. It's disheartening when not everything goes as smoothly as anticipated, especially with the payment and room allocation process. While we do have a safe at the front desk, as you noted, we want to ensure every aspect of your stay is secure and convenient. I'm also taking note of your suggestions regarding the room amenities and staircase lighting—they are the kind of details that help us enhance our Mediterranean flair and homey ambiance. On a more positive note, we're proud of our unique gastronomic joy and the unbeatable location that you've become accustomed to over your 19 visits. It's guests like you that contribute to our vibrant community vibe, and we're grateful for your long-standing loyalty. Our goal is always to provide an environment of unconventional comforts and local culture infusion, where every guest can find their own rhythm, as you mentioned. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a stay that aligns perfectly with the ZEL Punta Cana experience. We look forward to welcoming you very soon. I normally do write reviews but this place the swims up rooms are gorgeous but they have a lot of work to go. They clean the pool like once a week there were light fixtures, floating in the pool, no music during the day, the swim up bar is a joke as there was only a bartender that would walk down take your order leave and come back with a drink they didn’t even attend the swim up bar once during our 6 day stay. Food was ok, maid service was horrible as some of our rooms weren’t cleaned for days and took 12 times asking and 2 days to get clean towels. Overall great grounds but stay somewhere else also not beach front you have to take a shuttle to the beach which is ok getting there but good luck getting back

We had a concierge reach out to us on WhatsApp, he flat out ignored any of my questions, was unable to answer local information that I asked about, and lied to us twice about making our dinner reservations so when we showed up all dressed up we couldn’t even get into the restaurant because they were fully booked. We ordered room service and number of times and often it would take upwards of an hour or longer to receive room service and items were frequently missing. For instance, a dessert, wine, bottle opener, and even full menu items. They wouldn’t even leave the items in the room if we weren’t present to receive them so that was pretty horrible even if we had the green sign on the door. I had to make multiple calls often to complete orders. Housekeeping also failed to turn over the room completely, and when we requested new pillowcases or new sheets they would only bring one or the other. Considering the price of what you pay to stay here complete trash for the value for the customer service, but beautiful for the scenery, the buffet, and the amenities

Just back from an unforgettable week at Zel Punta Cana, and we're already planning a longer stay! Despite being only three months old, this resort masterfully combines Dominican charm with contemporary luxury, setting a new standard for all-inclusive experiences in Punta Cana.

Our 100m² Master Suite took our breath away with its stunning pool views, sophisticated design, and luxurious amenities including both indoor and outdoor jacuzzi tubs. The spacious layout provided the perfect retreat after sun-filled days.

The resort's greatest asset is undoubtedly its staff, whose genuine warmth and attention to detail elevated every moment of our stay. What's particularly noteworthy is that we asked for their names specifically because their service was so exceptional - not because anyone requested a review. Standout team members included Aris Lady, Leticia, Alisha, Robinson, and Wellington at the Parda buffet, who made every meal special. At the specialty restaurants, Michael 'Number One' and Rudy (Volcan and Tacorini) and Davis (Nokyo) provided memorable dining experiences. The Calamari Ceviche at Tacorini is a must-try that perfectly captures the resort's fresh, innovative approach to dining.

The dynamic duo of Miguel and Tatianna at Voltaje nightclub deserves special recognition - Miguel's masterful Hemingway Daiquiri was a standout in an impressive cocktail menu, and their infectious energy transformed every evening into a celebration.

While the resort welcomes families, the atmosphere remains decidedly zen and sophisticated. The thoughtful layout and design create an informal yet luxurious environment where both relaxation and entertainment coexist perfectly. My wife's experience at the spa, particularly her facial, exemplified the resort's commitment to world-class service.

Our trip started with an unexpected 3 AM arrival due to Air Canada's aircraft change, but the staff handled our late check-in with remarkable efficiency and warmth, setting the tone for the exceptional service we'd experience throughout our stay.

The entertainment struck a perfect balance, with fantastic live music from local artists adding to the ambiance. One minor suggestion would be to expand the daytime playlist, focusing more on tranquil Caribbean vibes at a conversation-friendly volume.

The resort grounds are absolutely stunning—lush tropical gardens, crystal-clear pools, and a short walk to a pristine beach that looks like it stepped out of a travel magazine. Every restaurant delivered exceptional cuisine, though the Mexican poolside restaurant became our favorite spot for fresh, flavorful dishes in an unbeatable setting.

For those seeking an all-inclusive that perfectly balances luxury amenities with laid-back sophistication, impeccable service, and paradise-perfect surroundings, Zel Punta Cana is an obvious choice. One week wasn't enough - we're already planning a longer stay!

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for the time taken to review your stay with us. Your appreciation for the 100m² Master Suite's stunning pool views and the indulgence of both indoor and outdoor jacuzzi tubs reflects the Mediterranean flair we aim to provide. The gastronomic joy you experienced at our restaurants, including the unforgettable Calamari Ceviche at Tacorini, truly speaks to the essence of our dining philosophy. It's wonderful to hear that Miguel's Hemingway Daiquiri at Voltaje nightclub left a lasting impression with its rooftop lounging vibes. While we strive to craft a soundtrack that enhances the beach club beats, your suggestion for the daytime playlist is something we'll mull over with the same enthusiasm we mix our cocktails. We're thrilled that our team's dedication to service left such a warm impression, and rest assured, the homey ambiance is not just by design—it's a reflection of our commitment to making every guest feel like part of our community. We hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future. Kindest regards, Miguel Diaz Urrutia Hotel Manager Zel Punta Cana

We stayed three nights at the Melia Garden Suites after spending the first portion of our DR trip in a large adults only all-inclusive resort. This was our first stay at a Melia property so we weren’t quite sure what to expect, but the Melia Garden Suites exceeded our expectations.

The staff was so lovely and accommodating from the moment we arrived on the property. From the front desk to the restaurants/bars, we received excellent service from everyone we encountered. The suites are spacious and it was great being able to spread out and relax at the end of the day. The large balcony was also amazing with comfy chairs and a jacuzzi tub.

It was a short walk or a complimentary golf cart ride to the beach, where there were chairs/palapas, towels, and bar/restaurant service. While we enjoyed the beach, the pool area at the resort was also outstanding with lots of bali beds and hidden nooks where it felt like we had the whole resort to ourselves. The resort grounds are like a tropical oasis and one of my favorite days was just spent reading by the pool.

We really enjoyed this boutique style resort as it felt much more intimate and relaxing than the larger AI resorts.

Hotel rooms are 750 meters (half mile) from the beach. The closest point in the hotel to the beaches is about 500 meters, but then its about another 250 meters to the rooms. Booking materials say on the beach or steps from beach in sales material. Pools nowhere near the beach. Can’t really do a split beach / pool afternoon. It’s a trek thru the heat. Good luck getting the shuttles back to the resort, there is no way to ask for one from the beach. May as well book an inland vacation somewhere warm which is almost what this is. For the same $$, you’d get a nicer property since you’re not paying a premium for an ocean that you cant even see from the resort. Had they been truthful about location, I would have booked someplace else. Go check a map for yourself. You need to walk down a trail and then fully through another resort to get to the beach.

And then for good measure, your assigned room concierge will apply pressure tactics to try and get you to visit a Meliá time share presentation during your stay for a new property they are presently building nearby. This angered a number of guests and was a common topic of conversation.

We just returned from an incredible 7-day vacation, and for anyone seeking a smaller, boutique-style resort, this is the place. Everything is brand new, from the lounge chairs to the amenities, but what truly made our stay special was the staff. There are too many outstanding team members to mention, but my personal "angel" was Leonela, one of the client reps. She went above and beyond for us—when Air Transat lost my luggage, Leonela personally took us to another resort to locate an Air Transat rep who could assist us. How amazing is that? The next day, she arranged a taxi to take us to a mall for supplies and even made sure we had a ride back. She also checked in with me daily via WhatsApp to help with restaurant reservations and other details—she was truly incredible. The food was fantastic, and if possible, I highly recommend booking a master swim-out room—it’s totally worth the extra cost! The resort has an intimate, welcoming atmosphere due to its size, and we had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people.

Response from Hotel- cmanager, Owner at Zel Punta Cana
Responded 2 Jan 2025
Dear Guest, Thank you for this great review. It's music to our ears knowing that our boutique resort's Mediterranean flair and community vibe struck a chord with you. We’re thrilled that our staff, especially Leonela, provided you with exceptional care, embodying the homey ambiance we pride ourselves on. Your gastronomic joy at our dining venues is just the cherry on top, and we're delighted that the master swim-out room made a splash during your stay. While we wish every suitcase a swift and sure journey, it seems yours took a detour; rest assured, our team is always on hand to assist in any way we can. We're sorry to hear about the inconvenience with Air Transat, but overjoyed that Leonela was there to turn the tide in your favor. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Kind regards, Fernando Rivera Hotel Manager Zel Punta Cana
