This place is nothing fancy, so if you're looking for the "mint on the pillow experience," look elsewhere. If you're looking for an honest deal with GREAT, FRIENDLY STAFF, you've come to the right place. Sonia is always ready to give you a cup of coffee and a smile, Ted has a story and a cold El Presidente whenever desired, and the host, Marco, will steer you in the direction of whatever it is you seek, from diving to eating out to dancing to everything that is available on the island. My greatest relief is, when you get your bill, there are no little "surprises" added to it, just exactly what you negoatiated right up front. This trip was a life changing experience, and the staff of Rocky's helped me through the gate. Thanks, guys!

A rainbow friendly bar/hotel in the Dominican Republic. This was wonderful!

As a black man, coming from the states, San Francisco, I was a bit nervous after reading some of the posts on local message boards. But Rocky (Marco) held my hand through it all (literally) and made me feel very welcome. What a first night on the town we had! And the others weren't bad either!

Very friendly staff, to all inclinations it seemed. Food is good, but a bit slow. But if you can pry Marco from his cubicle he can keep you entertained for hours with his stories.

Can't wait to visit again. Next time, in October, I promised Marco I'm bringing some of my boyfriends. He and Ted better save up some energy from their usual pah-tay-ing fo' a wild time!

I stayed at Rockys several times over the past number of years. If you're looking for a clean, safe, inexpensive place in town you can't go wrong. Marco is a great source of information and will pick you up at the airport. Ted is a character not to be missed. If English is your primary language and you don't know a lot of Spanish then this is the place.

If you're a single traveler and want to take a walk on the wild side, you can't go wrong. Remember, you're right in town near a major crossroads and things are hopping. People who want a more "controlled" environment, or couples with young children might prefer the gated-in all inclusive. If you want a square deal and an authentic Sosua experience, this is the place.

The hotel has no staff, only the owner, who is less than helpful.
The shower had low pressure. And the airconditioner barely worked
The owner does not give receipts for cash payments.
But be sure to insist on one, or otherwise, you will regret it later.

This has to be absolutely the worst hotel I ever had the misfortune of staying at. One night was too much. Noisy, moto conchos going up and down the street all night, noisy music from a prostitute bar a couple of doooors away, cockroaches in the room, soiled sheets, doors slamming all night, you name it anyone who stays here must be desperate. Stay anywhere else they don't get any worse than this dive.

Nan in the u.k.

I really enjoyed my stay in Sosua. I had a awesome time. I met great people !
Definitely worth it.

However, the owner, Rick, was unprofessional. He speaks in a condescending tone.
His manners with me was unbecoming from an owner. I could expect it from staff but not the owner.

The room I picked was $25/night but I had to call staff to put on the pump to constantly get more water for a shower. The owner tells me it was due to high electricity. The room was stuffy and the fan was wobbly. A child could have laid down the grout and sealants around the sink and toilet a whole lot better. The drain was not seated properly in the tub and the floor tile moldings were soiled.

Originally he tells me free airport drop off and then changes to $25 charge which he has his brother-in law carry me. The owner goes on about high gas prices, however, after negotiating, he takes me to the airport for $15.

I am a teacher who uses summers to explore cultures and new places as I travel the world from Thailand to Sweden to Belgium to Japan, I can honestly say I have stayed in better $25/night hotels.

I have told whole lot of other folks traveling to the DR, to stay away from this hotel.

Maybe he caters to a specific group of people. Not sure. Maybe I should not expect much from a two-star hotel.

I will be returning but not to this hotel.

Response from Dafishguy, Owner at Rocky's Rock & Blues Bar and Hotel
Responded 9 Aug 2011
I am so sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. We try very hard to make everyone feel like they are at home when staying with us. Because you did not feel this way, I hold myself totally responsible and sincerely apologize. I have reviewed our email exchange. I am sorry but I could not find anywhere where I said that the trip back to the airport was going to be free. I did tell you that the pickup was free and it was. Our policy is that for a one week stay, you get free airport pick up and for a two week stay you get free airport drop off as well. As you did not stay a full two weeks, the drop off was not free. I changed this policy when I purchased Rocky's because the old owner would not give free rides back to the airport no matter how long you stayed and I thought that was not fair so I changed the policy for the betterment of our clients. Again, I sincerely apologize if I failed to explain this to you better. Yes, you were quoted the going taxi rate back to the airport. We arrange transportation with a taxi for our guests convenience. Because you bargained with the driver and got a better rate was between you and the driver. Rocky's gets no money for this service as the deal is between you and the driver. I'm glad you got a better rate but that was totally out of our control. It was a sincere pleasure having you stay with us. If I failed to show you just how much we appreciate your business, once again I apologize and hope someday I can make it up to you somehow. Thank you very much for your review. We appreciate all reviews good or bad as they give us a chance to improve our offering.

They advertise as basic, but if you have been through military basic you will recall your barracks with fond memories compared to this place

Rockys is definitely "cheap" but not in the term inexpensive. The place literally is "for the dogs"

We ordered his "World famous ribs" (not in our world) and waited 55 minutes, quite surprising as we were the only customers except a large dog that begged at our table. The place was in serious need of a good washing and brightening.

Atmosphere: Early depression era? Seriously, very dark, old wobbly tables and white plastic chairs is yet they charge the price of a 3-4 star restaurant

Maybe it is an attractive place for the assortment of girls who appeared to be "looking for a date", but as a place to eat and relax, stick with McDonald's McRib sandwich

What a bust! Food service is slow, and nothing to wait for. The famous 'ribs' can't hold a candle to a McDonald's McRibb sandwich. Often had to wait 1 hour for hamburgers that tasted like they were laced with sawdust. Hotel is nothing more than YMCA type rooms but not as luxurious. Right on street next to 'ladyofthenight' bars. Not for the kids for sure. But good privacy. The place was empty every night we stayed there. Overall a Sosua 'Must Miss'.

The posted photos should tell the whole story. Look at the sheet thing hanging over the window and the toilet pic. Looks like something from a bad 70's movie. I love the review about the guy getting one way airport transportation included. Who ever heard of that? Any hotel listing free airport shuttle would mean it is included both ways regardless of lenghth of stay. I am not saying that they list it as free but to only get one way when a guy stays a Full Week is pathetic.
I had the ribs and they were greasy. I also had the chicken wings and they were so tiny with so little meat on them they weren't worth eating and the chicken sandwich wasn't a breast piece but some shredding meat off a roaster. I only stayed one night because there were bugs in my room.
