Detailed Reviews
Mary Rose is a pleasant and comfortable place to stay. The service is excellent and the staff is friendly. Located close to downtown Sosua, Mary Rose provides good access to all shopping and eateries in the area. I have stayed there 3 times now and I am going back again in April 2011 to go diving. Rooms are clean and spacious with Wi-Fi and flat panel TV. All I do is show up and unpack my bag!

Colin and the team at Mary Rose do a wonderful job taking care of their customers. Rooms are very clean and newly furnished, including Kingsize beds and flat-screen televisions. The well equipped kitchen and Colmado (small grocier) across the street help keep your budget under control on an extended stay. Pool and area were always spotless, and the complex is more of a small community than hotel, with group barbeques and a friendly smile around every corner. Security is solid with a locked gate into the courtyard, barred windows, and a formidable security fence.
The location is just out of the way enough to enjoy a quiet's night sleep even when Sosua is jumping from dusk to dawn, but close enough to be a part of the party if you want. A 10 minute walk to downtown, and a 5 minute walk to a secluded beach makes this location perfect for anybody looking for a balanced vacation or extended stay.

My husband and I spent the two last week of our vacation at this nice and quiet apartment complex. The owner and the staff were very polite and full of little attentions for us and all the other guests. All the apartments are nicely furnished with brand new furniture, very comfortable beds, electricity and hot water 24 hours a day, security, and cleansiness all over the complex. Quiet at night with no motorcycle noice. 15 minutes walk from downtown and the Sosua beach, grocery store 2 minutes away. We had a wonderfull time.

Me and my husband stayed at Maryrose last summer and we could not have been happier with our vacation! Very very nice apartments, great pool, great location, air conditioning, free internet, just such a nice quiet place and Colin and Jose make sure everyone is super happy! We met so many wonderful people at Maryrose that helped to make our stay the best we have ever experienced. We are already planning our trip next summer and we will not be staying anywhere but Maryrose!! Thank you Colin and Jose, Max and Darky :) you are all so wonderful and we look forward to see you next summer :) I will probably never stay at a hotel again in the Dominican Republic, Maryrose is the place to be!

Rick did it again…
I originally booked a Condo apartment for my returned trip to the Dominican Republic at Sosua Suites, but when I arrived on the 23rd to start my two weeks of bliss, Rick the owner offered a surprise. Rick goes on to explain that he was finalizing a deal to purchase another rental property named “Mary Rose” and offered me an upgraded to this more modern property. Rick wanted to know if I would be interested in trying his new property, and was upfront and said it was about a ten-minute walk from the center of town. Of course, Rick would never leave any of his guest/friends stranded and offers a free shuttle service (10 am - 4am, no that is not a typo) for those staying at Mary Rose. This made it an no-brain"er" and, I jumped at the upgrade. As it turned out I got one of the larger apartments on the property and was immediately impressed with the sheer size of it (full kitchen, two sofas, full size fridge, walk-in closet, new air conditioner - BR only, never needed during this trip, etc.). Unknown to me at the time was that this particular apartment is normally an additional $50/US more a week, and still at $350/week it was a bargain. But Rick waived it because he really wanted me to experience something new, and I noticed how proud he was of it when he was showing me it. Although, I was travelling alone, this is an ideal place for peace and quiet away from the center of town with its nightlife for those travelling couples, and of course if you want to go to town, Rick guarantees from the time you call him or his other driver (Manuel) they will be within minutes of Mary Rose to pick you up. Yes, the service also includes pickup from anywhere in town back to Mary Rose as well! I am a walker and used the service only a hand full of times and never experienced an issue.
The Mary Rose’s property is well kept, clean, modern (cable TV & WiFi) and most important they are secured, but what truly makes it worth staying at these properties is “Rick” the owner. I must also mention the property manager “Jose” was truly accommodating to any problems you may experience and will rectify it immediately. Please don’t get the wrong picture there is a business side to it, but it is so subdue you never noticed it – all pricing is up front and it is never a surprise. Simply, Rick offers customer satisfaction that is unparalleled to any other establishments that I've stayed in the Dominican Republic or for that matter anywhere else I traveled to, and for me "Rick" is the main reason why I chose to stay at his properties when I book trips to the D.R. Just an example of his top-notch service, he provided his personal cellular number and tells me even at 3:00 am if I encounter any situation I can call him for assistance, thank goodness I never had to take him up on that offer - that’s invaluable!

I have stayed at the Maryrose twice now and I have nothing but praise for my experiences there. The facility is brand new, well built, clean and secure. Air conditioning is so efficient you need to turn it right down or you will need extra blankets at night! Free internet service is provided, the flatscreen TV has many many channels (andenglish ones too!). The maid service is very nice, and laundry is done upon request. The pool is always spotless, and the staff (Jose' is an incredable host!) could not be any more thoughtful! I will be returning here for 6 weeks this summer, and I can't wait to see Colin, Jose' and Max again! Colin even bought me a special coffee pot so I could enjoy the wonderful flavor of the local products. Every request I have made has been met with a smile and delt with immediately! I have stayed in numerous resorts and hotels in Sosua, and NOTHING compares with the quality of this facility and the hospitality of the staff. I consider Colin and the Maryrose family to be amongst my most treasured friends.

On our first trip ever under very shaky circumstances, the Mary Rose and the management became our stabilizing home base and port of calm in a whirl of chaos. Comfortable, clean rooms with kitchens and refrigerator. Near to beaches and restaurants, helpful, friendly staff, pool, and a fantastic open-air lounge working area overlooking the pool from the second floor. Pleasant nicely kept grounds. There are a couple of house dogs on premises but they are friendly and no bother.
The management worked with our suddenly-stressed budget and sorted out a dream condominium for long-term rental at their Trade Winds. Mary Rose is like a family.
Jamie, Milka, and Rick are all the most accommodating and empathetic hotel owner-managers I've ever had the pleasure to deal with.
They made our experience with the DR the dream it turned out to be.

I have stayed at the Mary Rose before. This time I stayed 40 days. I enjoyed the Mary Rose very much. It is a safe, secure place. It is located away from the P.C. area. It is a LOT quieter than other areas. As mentioned in other posts a store is 50 yds away. At the M.R.C. Milka (owner), Johhny (her brother) May Li (#1 girl) all go out of the way to help out. Example: Water is a must have down there. You can pay 86 pesos for a bottle of water that will not last the day. Or.... you can buy a 5 gallon bottle from Milka for 50 pesos. Small amount of money that adds up. I saved over 80.00 buying from Milka. Not a lot but.... enough for a night on the town! Several times I asked questions and got straight answers back. If you have been to the DR before you know that is rare. lol They have a very nice BBQ for guests to use. Well worth using. A friend and I decided to throw a BBQ. We went to Milka n Johhny and explained what we would like. We asked her, Johnny and other staff to join in participate and invite family. AWESOME!!! Some of the staff and family made salads and other traditional Dominican food. We had steak, chicken, ribs etc. DANG! That was the best BBQ EVER!! We met "real Dominicans". People that showed the real DR!!! If your a first timer or if you have been there a lot... no matter.... This is a GREAT place to stay. Milka, Johnny, THANK YOU!!!

Although I have stayed here on three previous occasions, finally got around to writing a review. Rick and Milka are the ultimate hosts. No question in my mind that Mary Rose is the best place to stay in Sosua, maybe even the DR. Great rooms with daily maid service. Attention to detail is rick's focus and as a host, hard to imagine anyone better. Great quiet location, gated, with night time security. Pool is cleaned daily and nightly fun around the bar is always a highlight. Ricky also owns Rocky Bar in town, simply a must for breakfast, and dinner is a great value proposition. Really can't do anything but give MR the highest marks. Unconditional recommendation. Great job Rick and Milka.
