Friendly helpful manager and staff, pleasant "skybar" restaurant overlooking the good size pool.
Good Buffet breakfast and enjoyable dinners.
Room was pleasant, clean and good size.
Location is quite good for exploring Bagan with e-bikes available directly opposite although we found a day hire Tuk-Tuk a little more relaxing.

Bagan accommodation, like all Burma, is expensive. Arthawka is good value in that context. If you book early the rate is much better.
On the edge of town it is well positioned for going out not the plain and is a short walk to the bars and restaurants. There is an ATM right outside that gives a good rate (but a $5 charge).
The building is solid construction if a bit dated. The Pool is saltwater unheated. A bit brisk when you get in but wonderful after a hot tour. It looks a bit scruffy. Upstairs there is a roof bar and restaurant. It's a bit sparse but is a relaxed place to have beer and eat. The food is not particularly good but the service is super friendly. Breakfast is good.
Rooms are decent size and clean. A/c works well and bathrooms also.
Staff are excellent. The manager was on top of everything and actually reduced our room rate because we were a couple in a triple (the triple was good value for 3).
Wifi is good in the lobby and pool area but weak in the rooms.
The ground floor poolside rooms are partly below street level, a bit dark and a touch musty when you arrive but fine. One floor up might be better but then you might get street noise and the occasional smell (the whole town suffers from periodic whiffs). Definitely ask to be facing away from the street. There is a non-pool annexe - no idea what it is like.
Overall perfect if you are not looking for a boutique level. Great service, works
Hotel will call guides for you and book cars - best to ask them ahead of time. We had a great guide called Poant Poant: knowledgeable, low key, cheerful and very considerate of everyone. the more you ask her the more she will explain. She will tour by car or e-bike. +95 0256016381

1. The rate I got was competitive enough. I only paid roughly 50 USD per night nett with breakfast for 2 through Agoda.com, well there are cheaper hotels but you wont regret it once you get inside of this hotel.
2. The interior is gorgeous, the lobby is big and the swimming pool looks clean and inviting.
3. They really have tasty buffet breakfast. They serve rice, breads, jam, vegies, fruits, coffee, tea, juices, fish, noodles/pasta and etc. They also provide packed breakfast. During our 2nd day they prepared us breads, eggs and bananas at 5:00 AM since we had to catch the sunrise in Bagan.
4. The room we got was a studio type with 2 single beds. It's big enough for 2 to 3 persons. I like the room; it looks really nice and neat; it has LCD, mini-refrigerator, closet for your things, table and chairs. They provide slippers, free bottled water, coffee and tea.
5. The AC works well and the water pressure is good. They provide clean towels, shampoo, toothbrush-toothpaste and body wash which i dont like the smell.
6. We arrived in the hotel at 9:00 AM and they allowed us to check in early free of charge.
7. You can rent a bike which is around 3 USD per day.
8. The manager and the staff are very kind and friendly, they always smile and greet you.
9. I highly recommend Zaw, our excellent tour guide. He is very patient and kind. It's the hotel staff who contacted him.
10. "The Moon" a vegetarian restaurant in Bagan is a must-try.
11. The only thing that makes me sad is their wifi connection. It's so slow, well in Burma it's usual.
12. I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Very recommendable!

We were introduced by email to Shiran the Hotel Manager of this delightful hotel in New Bagan.
Without a doubt he was the most helpful person in the whole of Myanmar.
He organised transport for our group of 6 for several occasions on our onward journeys and despite having to travel elsewhere during our 3 day stay, made sure that all our needs were met by his friendly staff.
It's not often that a Hotel Manager doubles as a Tour Guide and we were extremely grateful.
A self organised tour of Myanmar is not the easiest so when it's all done by emails, it makes for a relaxing holiday.
The hotel is ideally situated with large comfortable rooms; the pool was perfect for some "down time" after Ballooning over Bagan and then exploring many of the stupas, pagodas and temples in the early mornings and late afternoons.
After a lovely meal on the hotel roof top, we were also given details of other dining possibilities in Bagan
Beware that the walk into town is dusty in the dry season and not well illuminated so it's a good idea to take a torch and wear closed shoes.

The Arawathra Hotel is located in New Bagan in a fairly quiet area.
When we arrived we were greeted with a cold drink and some local sweets.
The entrance foyer is large and looks quite impressive. The rooms are well-maintained with a large bed, flat screen TV with English channels, tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge, safe, and a large clean bathroom. The bed is rather firm but this is typical of most hotels in the region. I was so tired after walking around all day, that I slept very well regardless.
The pool is located between the two main wings of the hotel. It is clean, salt water, and warm. It is certainly fantastic to be able to jump into the pool after an exhausting day.
The staff at reception, apart from being very efficient, are able to organise everything to make your stay easy.
The restaurant does reasonable food, and there are several restaurants within 5-10 minutes walk of the hotel (down the slight hill to the left of the hotel).
The staff deserve a special mention. The waiters in the dining room are all quite young, and it appeared that some at least were being trained. All the staff tried their best, and were all very friendly and attentive. Top marks to the restaurant manager for his ongoing training.
The front desk staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for these people, who very efficiently organise everything for you. We hired a driver with an air con car and an English speaking guide. It was all done within minutes of arriving. The prices are extremely fair--K35000 for the car for the day or K50000 for a van, and K35000 for a guide. Unless you happen to be an expert in the pagodas and temples of Bagan, having a guide opens up a whole new world, and details that you would easily miss. The young woman at reception was particularly helpful. A big thank you to her.
This hotel deserves the positive comments it has received from other reviewers.

This place is super clean and very well run. The rooms are not five star but very good and lots of hot water. There is a pool and restaurant. Beds very comfortable and has air-con. A good place to relax in in the entrance with comfy chairs and free wifi that works ok. The restaurant has a reasonable selection to choose from at a reasonable price. A place of value on a a midrange budget, or put it another way I'd stay again with no second thoughts. A bit of noise early in the morning from the Buddist temple but you get that all over Myanmar.

Room was fine, but hotel custom is to leave windows open between guests. We did not notice, and had an awful night with outside noise and smelling other people's cigarette smoke. To his credit, the manager next day was very apologetic, sent us a tray of complimentary fruit. He is there 7AM to 10PM, and the staff generally most obliging. Pleasant pool overlooked by all the rooms, still no disturbance when you want to sleep. Worst aspect is food, Asian variety is your best choice. You can get local wine by the glass. Beware of strange custom: need to order your dish 1-hr in advance, otherwise wait is even longer than usual. If you want to eat out, your only decent alternative is the Green Elephant in New Bagan (15-min walk). Old Bagan, where most of the good restaurants are, require a taxi ride.
