Ruby True Hotel, New Bagan, Myanmar is a nice 3-star Hotel at the outskirts of New Bagan (in woodland), conveniently located about 9 Km from Nyaung-U Airport (NYU), 10 Km from Bagan Train Station and not far away from magnificent sunset views over Irrawaddy river and next to the amazing Bagan Archeological Zone.
The Ruby True Hotel is a bungalows hotel quite new (opened 2013) and strives to offer excellent service to the guests in all areas of the hotel (but mostly at the reception and restaurant).
The rooms are quite large with a small veranda, the walls are covered with woven bamboo, the furniture is from teak wood, the bath is quite dated (needs some renovation, but it was clean), while the room and bath amenities were satisfactory.
The breakfast (buffet) was complimentary and was very good (with omelet corner), the food in the restaurant was tasty (with large portions), the service here was outstanding and the hotel management was very helpful.
I enjoyed the small swimming pool especially in the afternoon with the happy hour drinks (1+1 drinks & cocktails).
In conclusion, I consider my stay at the Ruby True Hotel in (New) Bagan as a very good accommodation option in the area, providing a perfect basis to explore the Archaeological Park of Bagan (with thousands of Pagodas, Temples and Monasteries), I recommend it and I would stay again.

A little hotel in a corner of New Bagan, but once you have a e-bike, you are just so close to everything.
Wawa, the owner is an absolute sweet hear that does everything possible to make her guests at ease.
The pool is so nice and brand new.
If we would go back to Bagan, we would 100% go back there. AMAZING!

Wa wa makes the whole difference here, making sure it is all in order and helping! The restaurant manager is also to be noticed for his attention and kindness. Bagan is expensive, but the price of the room (70€/night) is too high in my opinion for the quality of the infrastructure (room is very simple in fact). A plus for the swimming pool which is lovely!

Rating this hotel was very difficult for me, as financially it was the best deal, the breakfast was ok and the other staff was nice, but unfortunately, the manager(Wa Wa)was absolutely insane. When we arrived she said they did not have a room for us but we could stay for one night and then we would have to move to their other hotel for the rest of our four night stay. I showed her the booking voucher and insisted we get a room. I was short on patience after a nine hour boat trip. Still unsure for how long we would stay they moved us to a three single bed room, as was expected. She came later to tell us that everything was fine, we could stay in the room as she rectified the situation by talking to her boss in Yangon. This woman was a total spaz, like a granny on meth. By the end of our four night stay, my daughter was afraid of her. We had our first dinner there, and the food was ok. This insanity continued into our second day when Wa Wa came into our room again telling us that we have to move to an identical room couple of doors down, as she promised this room to someone else long time ago. This time even my patient wife was starting to loose it and my daughter was getting teary eyed. She returned shortly to tell us the good news that we could stay. This crazy woman's behaviour bordered on bullying and started to ruin our stay in Bagan. This calmed down after the second day, and each time we were leaving our room or returning to our hotel we were hoping not to see her, which was next to impossible. This lady really needs to tone it down. Throught our stay she kept telling my daughter how lucky she was to have the room. I still don't know what the deal with the room really was, but Wa Wa could definitely not articulate it. They need to get someone that actually speaks enough English as a manger. Also, she does not know anything about this area, and aside from getting us transport was totally useless. The room was ok, wi fi worked and TV had Enlish movie channels which was nice. Considering the inflated cost of accommodation in Myanmar, Ruby True was a bargain. Unfortunatelly, due to the incompetence, insensitiviey, ineptitude, of the manager who brought my daughter to tears and almost ruined our stay in Bagan, I have to give this place the lowest ranking possible.

I return to Ruby True every year. It's so in keeping with the spirit of Bagan: quiet location, semi-detached bungalows midst gardens and, most important, the most friendly and helpful staff imaginable. When I've gone there with a group of people and when one is sick, the caring nature of the staff becomes most evident; anyone needing extra attention is so well taken care of.
This hotel has the ability to keep its staff for years and years; they radiate a sense of family.
While Bagan itself is a treasure trove of Burmese history and Buddhist devotion, Ruby True provides the connection to living Burmese and their capacity for true hospitality. I wouldn't think of staying anyplace else in Bagan.

Located at the edge of the current footprint of New Bagan, Ruby True is based upon semi-detached guest bungalows set in perfectly manicured gardens.

You immediately feel at home as Wawa (or "boss" and "mum" as we jokingly called her) busies herself and her team to make sure that your stay is a smooth as possible. In fact you are told to treat the room "as your home" as you are shown around the facilities at check-in.

I'm a fairly independent traveler and I was a bit on edge choosing this place as generally I like to sort things out for myself, know what I'm doing, and generally be a bit in control of my own destiny. But Wawa immediately set me at ease, and convinced me to just let her organise things for us. Our requirements were not complicated, just some eBike rentals, a couple of suggestions for temples, and a taxi to the Airport on departure. But the costs for these services were not expensive and having her organise them rather than trudge up and down the street in Bagan weigh up which bike to get, it was just easier to let her take care of things. And our ebike was great - it was able to take two people no problem, the battery wasn't even at 50% after a full day of buzzing around the temples, and I just knew that if we did have a problem I could call the hotel and Wawa would be all over the ebike people like a rash.

The rooms were a little on the dark side, mainly due to their their decoration style being based upon a traditional wooden house. But they were spacious enough, the beds were firm without being too firm (about 7 out of 10 by my rating, where 10 is too firm). There was a power socket by the bad (hurrah) as well as light switches for both the room and reading lights. The bathroom was looking a little dated, but it functioned perfectly well, with a shower over the bath. it was fun in the evenings taking a shower after tracking around all the temples and seeing the almost blood-red dust wash off your feet / legs / sandals and cascade across the bath.

Each bungalow has its own little veranda which is perfect to just sit on in the late afternoon or evening and have a beer, the hotel staff will bring round a mosquito coil and light it in the evening and leave it on the veranda.

Breakfast was good - probably be best we had in Myanmar - Although we were staying three nights we only had a full buffet on one morning, on other days the hotel was quite quiet and to save wasting food on the other two morning they were taking food orders, but the service was very attentive without being excessive, and you could still ask for as much as you wanted.

The Wifi for us worked ok, although it's still connected to a painfully slow broadband service, it is probably the one area of the hotel facilities that will need some attention soon as it's based on WEP and the coverage is a little variable.

The walk from Ruby True into town takes 15 to 20mins, it's not onerous, and if you've had an eBike for the day you can still use it into the evening.

We departed with a heavy heart - having had a truly excellent stay at Ruby True and in Bagan in general, exploring the temples on ebikes (having never ridden a moped before) was a complete hoot. Wawa and her team really do pull out all the stops to make you feel welcome and to treat their hotel as your home.

I was excited to return to Bagan after 11 years hoping it had not changed too much. It had. And hadn't. A friend and I traveled in late March so the crowds weren't horrendous (except on Saturday when the tour buses arrived). We arrived at The Ruby True late at night having traveled by mini-van (Green Bus Myanmar) from Mandalay after flying in on Bangkok Airways and hiring a taxi to take us to the bus station via a photo stop at U Bein Bridge. It was dark and quiet and several staff members helped us to our cottage.
In the morning at breakfast we were greeted by WaWa (spelling phonetically here), the amazing manager who really made the experience for us. She told me her name means Yellow, so I learned my first word of the trip (and it came in handy, because I met other Yellows during the stay). She got us set up with "EBikes" (kind of like mopeds) and assured us she would help us sort out the rest of our trip (which involved two different itineraries as we were splitting up after Bagan). I recall on my last trip to Myanmar or "Burma" as I like to call it, the Female Managers of the Guest Houses or Hotels act as Travel Planners and Facilitators and even make hotel and transfer arrangements, in addition to arranging bus and airline tickets.
The temples were more amazing than I recall, and luckily, the friendly vendors and locals remain amongst the most friendly people on the planet.
I miss WaWa. She made us feel truly special with her warm smile and sense of humor, reminding us of Lily Tomlin. She speaks perfect English and tries to be at reception whenever she thinks you will be needing her. Say "Hi" from Laura and Angie if you decide to stay here.
PS-Rooms very spacious. Lovely Gardens. Wake up calls not necessary as the roosters and monks chanting (in different dialects) handle that efficiently (a highlight for me). Very clean. Excellent breakfast included. Friendly and efficient staff. An amazing bargain.

We stayed here for a night, but in all of my travels, I've never met a staff that was so helpful, particularly Wawa.

We were waiting for our room at The Blue Bird next door and needed a place to stay for the night, so figured the Ruby True was a perfect option since it's literally next door. Wawa was seriously the best & made our stay so wonderful. We asked her if she could help us with getting transport getting back to the Mandalay Airport, since The Blue Bird quoted us $170 for a taxi. Not only did she help us, but secured a taxi service for $80! Less than half! We weren't even going to be staying at their hotel at this point, but that didn't stop her.

She also helped us with getting a private car to take us to all of the temples for $40 for the day. The hotel itself kinda reminded me of a bungalow colony in the Catskills, the rooms are very outdated and kinda smell moldy. The breakfast was great and the garden was so pretty. I would've rated the hotel itself a 6 out of 10, but you kinda forget about that once you meet the staff. Wawa sent us off with big hugs and I'll never forget her warmth. Thanks again!
