&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge has been called the game lodge at the top of the world. Between the natural riches of the Crater spread out at its feet and the incredible architecture, it’s easy to believe that you have entered a realm of pure fantasy. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Endangered black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephant wander the forests, male lion stalk the grasslands and flamingo crowd the soda lakes. Nowhere else on earth can guests wake up among all the trappings of an elegant baroque châteaux and be transported to one of the most famous African landscapes. Divided into three camps, 30 suites with banana leaf ceilings and grass roofs provide an intimate and exclusive experience. An eclectic blend of teak panelling, Victorian furnishings and whimsical African touches creates a sumptuous atmosphere that is as unique as the Crater itself.

The Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is famed for its “Versailles meets Masai” décor, and it is indeed over the top. We felt as if we were inside the castle in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” We wouldn’t want every safari camp in Africa to look this way, but as a once in a lifetime experience, it was a hoot.

Our chalet was huge, with multiple zones and innumerable, nooks, crannies, tables, desks, seating areas, and display shelves. But since the interior was designed to be sparsely lit, we couldn’t really appreciate everything.

The service at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is also over the top. Like every other guest, we had our own private butler — in our case, KK, a smooth and friendly professional — who served all our meals. For our day on the crater floor, the staff prepared a magnificent picnic lunch, which they were able to set up in a private picnic area away from the very crowded public area. It was a magical experience.

We were surprised by how cold it was on the crater rim — in August! Our chalet was not heated, but there was a fireplace, which the staff lit, and fortunately the bed came equipped with an electric blanket.

The crater itself is a spectacular geologic wonder. But to be honest, we found game viewing on the crater floor disappointing. Vehicles couldn’t go offroad, and anytime an interesting animal appeared, it was immediately surrounded by dozens of Land Cruisers.

The Crater Lodge is itself a kind of game reserve. While we were there, zebras were always munching on the lawn. And one night a Cape Buffalo planted itself just outside our chalet.

We had an wonderful time at the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. We stayed in beautiful rooms overlooking the crater that were wonderfully appointed. The bedroom, bathroom and toilet all had views of the crater below. Staff were friendly and constantly went above and beyond our expectations. Each morning, we had a wake up call with coffee and upon returning from drives, the fire was lit and the bath drawn. The service was next level! Game drives were just amazing although if you’ve been to private reserves, you should know that there is no off roaring here to protect the environment. Once you’re in there, you realise that this definitely makes sense. I’d highly recommend doing a full day at some point with brekky and a packed lunch. The quietest times are first thing in the morning and in the late afternoon. Rebecca and Kyle were gracious hosts, the staff were so accommodating and the food was delicious. A highlight at this lodge are the pre dinner drinks in the lounge. To call it a lounge doesn’t seem to do it justice but you’ll just have to come here to understand what I mean. The crater is definitely a very different experience to other parks and the Ngorongoro Crater lodge is an amazing place to stay to access all the crater has to offer.

Let's start with the view: amazing! The entire crater can be seen from the deck of the restaurant and from every lodge. Even the toilet has 3 windows so you don't have to stop enjoying the view. On the deck at the restaurant there's binoculars so we saw zebra's, elephants, hippo's and wildebeasts even before we ever got to the crater. Truly amazing.

The lodges themselves are something else; so much luxury. There's free chocolates, coffee, tea, wine, cookies, bottled water everywhere and so on. When we got back from the safari our bath tub was filled and on the floor rosepetals in the shape of a heart. The next day when we got back we found the fireplace on and some lovely champagne.

The food was very good as well, after diner we would be escorted back to our lodge because of the buffalo's wandering around. Added to the experience.

The people working at AndBeyond were so nice and fun, especially JJ and Ladislau. Leaving this place felt like saying goodbye to friends we had so much fun, thank you!

We absolutely loved our time at this lodge. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous. Our room included a fireplace (lit by staff every night), an outside balcony with view of the Crater, his/hers sinks, tub, shower, and wardrobe. Snacks, tea, coffee all in room. Bed with heating pad was deeply appreciated. Our butler (one assigned to every room) was extremely friendly and accommodating.

The main lodge and dining area are also beautifully appointed. Very luxurious. Definite European feel with African accents. The gift shop was filled with gorgeous and high quality souvenirs. The food was exceptional with both African and European fare available.

Note that the lodge is not fenced in. This means that wildlife can roam on the grounds. The property escorts you after dark to and from your room. Take this very seriously. We walked by a herd of water buffalo (with our Maasai guide) at night and felt very protected and safe with him.

Another benefit associated with this property is that It is very close to the crater. This means that you can start early on game drive. If you start early, you will be inside the crater before the day trippers from Arusha. Note you can do only one game drive per day, although the length of that drive is flexible. Our guide was friendly, helpful, and knew the park very well.
I will always remember my time at this property. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer.

Simply put, one of the best destinations we have ever visited. First the location, what a unique place to have a 5 star lodge overlooking a crater full of a variety of animals seen on safari. Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets await with beautiful views of the valley below. Now the staff and room, wow to both. Service is friendly and impeccable, you even get a hand washing ceremony every time you return from a drive. You also have dedicated staff on either the north or south side of the camp to create a closer bond and so they know your preferences. Regarding the room and lodge, I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking but the level of detail and features is perfect from the wood trim to heated blankets and USB ports for charging. Just a uniquely incredible experience.

I stayed at this lodge as a personal selection on an itinerary proposed by my travel agent. She warned me of the high cost but I wanted to stay here having seen the reviews and the web site. I would probably have been much better off where she originally placed me.
The room is unusual yes, but don't take American electrical equipment. My adapter didn't work and although my butler said he would get one he never did. The room retained a musty smell throughout my stay. I know it had been raining a lot but at these prices run a dehumidifier or figure out another way to get rid of the smell.
The most disappointing aspect was the restaurant. I had already stayed at three other lodges where the dining and choices were amazing. The choices here were extremely limited. Indeed, lunch has NO CHOICES at all. It's a set menu. The times are also totally inflexible. I returned from a game drive one day at 12:30 and told the camp manager I was just going to drop my gear and eat, that I was starving and he said "oh, we don't serve lunch until 1:30" Really? That's not service.
All in all, disappointing especially for what I paid. I will be coming back but not here. And it makes me hesitant to try any other AndBeyond property.

This lodge is fit for royalty. The rooms and hotel main areas are truly opulent and indulgent and offer everything you need to ensure a truly pampered experience. McCoy’s rose petal bath on our return from a game drive was an amazing surprise and the standard of food so high I thought I was at a top London Restaurant. The Washa Washa Choir performance for my birthday was so special and given we had the place to ourselves made it such a memorable experience. Thank you all so much.

If you are in doubt of whether or not you should travel at the moment, I would say definitely go. There are specialist Insurance Companies that will cover you to travel against Government advice and we felt safer travelling through Africa than at our local supermarket. Given that you more or less have the place to yourselves, why would you not. Go on, get out there……………

If not the best, one of the best hotels I’ve ever been in my life. This place was absolutely gorgeous in so many ways that I think I could write a book.

From the moment you put a foot on their property they all make sure you will have the best time of your live. The place is so gorgeous that sometimes you think you are dreaming. They take really good care of the property. The rooms, the restaurant, the bathrooms, the lounge are, everything is absolutely stunning and the
African style can be more present. It is just unbelievable. The rooms has the perfect view of the crater and you wake up looking at it from your bed.

I was celebrating my honeymoon with my husband and they organized so many surprises for us, romantic bath with rose petals, privet dinner with a Tanzanian choir...you name it they did it. They showed so much love for us. You can absolutely consider this place a LGBTQI+ friendly.

I strongly recommend this hotel and we will be back here to spend a week.

There are 3 'camps' on the grounds of the lodge. Each satellite camp is a short walk from the others. Beautiful cool, green views and the rooms/cabins are amazing! Comfy beds, stunning views of the Ngorongoro crater make this unforgettable stay. If you can get yourself into the 'Tree' camp. Its the smallest but the patio view is breathtaking. Service was courteous friendly and attentive. Never missed out. Food was excellent and the NYE events were a treat to watch! Champagne & Maasai warriors were memorable. Definitely want to return its a serene world far removed from the rush

This is another fantastic Safari lodge in Tanzania, conveniently located for Safari at the Ngorongoro crater.

AndBeyond Ngorongoro crater lodge is done in a beautiful authentic African style. Bedrooms has a special touch to them and offer amazing views. They have fireplace for romantic evenings. The whole atmosphere and ambience is super special.

Staff was excellent and they have gone an extra mile to make our stay special and memorable. Food was great too.

We are giving four stars for our experience for the following two reasons.
1) It was freezing cold in the rooms at night. They don’t really have any heating system in place in the rooms. Which makes even showering in the evening a challenge as it’s bloody cold. The only saver of the night was heated mattress which was a real bonus and the lodge staff have provided us with a portable heater which helped the situation a little. But for this price category Lodge one would expect better comfort. And we were also there at the end of June. I cannot imagine how cold it might be during the colder months.
2) The lodge is very pricy and we felt that other similar priced lodges offer better value for money.

Overall We had a fantastic stay and we would recommend this Lodge to our friends and family.

In advance tell them what you want. I’m not sure if rates vary by lodge but certain cabins are larger than others I think. Congratulations on your honeymoon and do tell them in advance! They really took care of my wife and I as we celebrated our 8th anniversary during the trip.

Hello, the schedule for game drives are generally customized to you. At the crater, we only did one in the morning. It was toward the end of a 12 day safari, so we decided to take advantage of the relaxing aspect of Crater Lodge in the afternoons rather than drive 2 x per day. The trip down to the crater is a bit long, so making 2 trips down is a lot. I would make your preference clear in advance. Can't hurt. Please know that the staff will be falling down to serve you here. Your wish is literally their command.
