Loved this lodge. Feels authentic Rwandan and comfortable. Sensational setting looking over the twin lakes. Longer ride to Gorilla start point but interesting drive. Loved the interiors. Great atmosphere in the main lodge. Dinner at the long table with everyone exchanging their adventures of the day was a great highlight. Very special dining room, great lighting for dinner. Equally enjoyed...

One would be hard pressed to find a more magnificent view in Rwanda...never mind beyond. At a mile in the sky, one looks in one direction to the volcanoes and the other to the twin lakes. Sunsets are simply breathtaking. The vibe is rustic yet luxurious when it comes to service and ammenities. For example, indulge -- take advantage of...

Stayed at this lodge for 4 nights in October after booking directly with Volcanoes Safaris. Volcanoes Safaris was excellent in providing professional service and made sure everything was taken care of from airport transfers to securing gorilla trekking permits to making sure you made it to your treks on time. We stayed in banda #9 (Ibirunga) which had a fantastic...

VolcanoesSafaris, General Manager at Virunga Lodge, responded to this review

Dear zoltrix56 Many thanks for your excellent review, it will be very useful for other visitors to the lodge. It's always good to read guests' feedback. Regarding the Wi-Fi, the remote location means that sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not so good. We have tried many different Internet service providers over the years. Regarding having Wi-Fi in the bandas (bedrooms)...

I never thought we would be able to see the gorillas as I am in a wheelchair until we found Volcanoes safari and Virunga lodge. On my request, Volcanoes safaris had fashioned together some wooden ramps which we used to get my wheelchair into the side door of the land cruiser. We also used these ramps to get up some...

We stayed two nights in one of the bandas facing the volcanoes. The view was breathtaking from there and anywhere at the lodge. The bandas are large with very large bathrooms and a stone patio out front. The bandas were a nice place to return to after a long hike to see the gorillas. Although, much of our down time...

Great rustic lodge. We found it very clean and comfortable. It was charming and the staff were lovely. We had no issues with the food or drinks. There were a few outlets in the main lodge to charge. They also had power strips to allow for additional charging. We felt safe leaving our electronics here. The Village walk was amazing....

I first stayed here in August 2005, a year after it had opened, and ten years later, it is even more comfortable yet still magical. The best thing is they use locals only and some staff were there from the start in 2004. The Owner is a gentleman and we were privileged to meet him. My favourite lodge to track...

See the previous review for all the detail. Here's my perspective. We stayed 4 nights in Rwanda to see the gorillas. We spent the first two nights in one of the lodges near the national park centre. It was fine and convenient for the early morning start. Perfectly good and a nice stay. But we wanted something different for our...

After two weeks safari in both kenya and tanzania we flew to kigali, rwanda on our way to track the silverback gorilla's. What a surprise start of the trip: kigali airport was modern, efficient and a relief after border security in the other counties. A very tidy and clean city, the trip from kigali to our lodge in tge virunga...

Stayed here for two nights to be near Parc National des Volcans Gorillas. Views from seemingly private lodges are stunning though full lake view far more special than opposite partial aspect (our party had two lodges). Rooms are large, comfortable and clean with good toiletries and fluffy towels. Sadly the safe in our room was broken and although looked at...
