I spent two nights at Lucky's and wish I could have stayed longer.
The beach front was absolutely wonderful and kayaks are available to guest free of charge.
Kurt and Lynn definitely make the difference. Lynn's home cooked meals were the best I had on the island. The first night I was there after one of Lynn's fine meals I sat out on the dock with Kurt and was amazed by the starry night sky.
While the small fale is quite small (room for two twin beds only), the outside cooking area is around the corner and clean bathroom facilities are across the yard. The larger cottages have their own facilities.
I had two wonderful days/nights of fun and complete relaxation. Visiting Lucky's is a must if you are headed to Vava'u. Enjoy!

My husband and I spent 4 amazing days at Lucky's Beach House. Kurt and Lynn were fantastic hosts and a wealth of local knowledge. The free kayaks gave us lots of freedom to explore Swallows Cave and other near by islands. We snorkeled off near by Mala Island, and had some up close experience with a school of Jelly Fish, fortunately from the safety of our kayaks. My husband meet a boat at the beach bringing fish to the market and bought crayfish about as fresh as you can get it! We highly recommend Lynn's cooking, fish enchiladas made with homemade tortillas is worth the trip.

Nice atmosphere and location. Lynn and Kurt are excellent hosts, and Lynn creates really delicious evening meals. We stayed in the blue fale, and it was clean and well appointed with a shower and kitchen. Interesting Islands just off the beach to explore by the canoes or snorkle (bring your own snorkeling gear or, as I did, at least a pair of swimming goggles).

If you want to experience Tongan architecture first hand but still get a good night's sleep, whilst staying on a safe beach with a great view - then lucky you are reading this review. Lucky's large fale is as close to traditional design as you are likely to find in Tonga, maybe with the exception of Tiana's on Uoleva. The fale is cool, has a real bed (a concession to palangi expectations), a net, and is absolute beachfront. The sound of the sea is your lullaby and can drown the sounds of the church bells (the price you have paid for coming to Tonga in the first place). Hosts Lynn and Kurt could not be kinder, and the kitchen fale has everything you need to cook all those goodies you brought from town. It's easy to swim across to nearby Mala Island, or there's free kayaks if you prefer. Coffee on the jetty first thing... a great place for a few days. Lucky old us!

We stayed here for our last 2 nights after 4 at the hill top, and so we were prepared for what we were in for and had done our grocery shopping! There is nothing but a poorly supplied villlage shop, so get good stuff from Neiafu. Luckys is a $30TOP taxi from town. Spent 2 days snorkelling from the beach out front (high tide), from the point to the west (5 min walk), any tide fine. And best of all the japanese garden just a 600m kayak away. Lynn and kurt are bloody lovely, and she gave us a fresh papaya off her trees each day, yum.
Its like glamping, so dont expect a resort.

Superb value, ideal for intrepid adventurers, and value seekers.

Do it

My wife and I stayed at Luckys at the beginning of our Tonga trip for four nights in the big fale but could have easily stayed for our entire trip.

Lynn and Kurt have gone out of their way to make this place special and memorable for all guests. From a bookshelf stocked with local knowledge of culture, fishing and shells to freely available kayaks and a clean and functional communal kitchen.

The private beach was nice but rocky in the shallows (as all beaches are in Tonga) and the traditional fale was well kept and a great experience.

The resort is about 12km from town and there is nothing nearby so the transfer to an from the main centre is expensive but Kurt and Lynn are more than willing to drop guests in town if they are on their way in.

Overall a great place with great people - very highly recommended for a couple wanting some time away from the busy centre.

Thank you Lynn and Kurt for making our stay so memorable.

Kaine and Elle :)

Lucky's beach houses provides a variety of accomodation from a traditional beach fale to the green house which came with its own bathroom, kitchen and fans. Accomodation is not grand, but it is clean, comfortable and right on the beach front. The location was beautiful and the food was amazing!

In our stay at 3 different places around Tonga, Luckys Beach houses stood out as our favorite.
Lynn,Kurt and Keith are the perfect hosts. They are more than happy to assist with any questions, bookings or requests. We traveled with 2 young kids (3yo and 8month old) and Lynn and Keith spent time making them feel at home.
We booked both the Green house and the Traditional Fale, and these suited our needs well and are good value for the price.
Although the Green house has cooking facilities, we took advantage of Lynns cooking a few times for breakfast and dinner. Food was 10/10 (and I can be picky about what I eat). Another advantage of the cooked meals was the opportunity to converse with the hosts and their contented guests. The recent completion(maybe a few minor touchups to come?) of the food preparation fale will give those staying in the 2 fales a great place to be self sufficient.
Kayaks are available for use,and we were able to explore a few places in our time there.
Only a short swim from the beach can see you snorkeling over coral formations with a huge variety and number of colorful fish. It is also very easy to swim or kayak across to Mala and the famed "Japanese Gardens"
Our family enjoyed many long conversations with Lynn and Keith. Kurt was great in getting us around and most importantly,to the airport in plenty of time.
Would not hesitate to recommend Luckys, and would definitely return if we ever go back to Tonga...infact I wish I was still at Luckys now!

We stayed 6 nights and found Lucky's to be owned by a delighful family, full of good information and enthusiasim to help you out. Lyn drove to the airport (approx 45min each way) twice to pick us up (due to Chatham pacific break downs) and we were still greeted with a beaming smile. Accomodation was as described - clean and well appointed. They really went the extra mile to make our stay fab- on arrival we were taken shopping for supplies, given chilly bin and storage advice for our food stuffs and received heaps of tangerines from their own supply.
We found Kurt's enthusiasm for fishing v infectious and their local knowledge invaluable.
Keith is a v good waiter and bakes fab cookies.
Breakfast and dinner are provided at a reasonable cost only if you want- we had dinner and were treated to a 3 course gastronomic delight each night with a detailed ingredient description at the beginning of each course.
Private beach area and free use of snorkelling and kayaks incl life jackets.
No hidden charges, detailed invoice given at end.
Highly recommend to all

What a great place to stay! Lynn picked us up at the airport and after a stop for shopping we were 'home'. Kurt and Lynn made us feel so welcome and the view from the bungalow was amazing - blue sea, plam trees and a lovely swimming beach.
