They really should complete the exterior works as the first impression was poor whilst inside it seemed fully operational. A basic hotel built from salt rock with little hot water and very average food - but one has to remember that it is in middle of nowhere really. Tayka Del Desierto was much better/newer and in same group.

We find this hotel average: the setting is close to a small village (forgot name) - hence it's not as in the middle of nowhere as Tayka del Desierto. Also, even though operated by the same group, I find Tayka del Desierto better than Hotel de Piedra (both in terms of atmosphere, food and experience). The food we had was... More

I agree with "don't expect much." No alternatives. I did not like the food either. Breakfast was limited to put it kindly. I cannot recommend this but if you want to see the salt flats they way they should be seen over days, then grin and bear it. Be prepared for the extreme cold. My camera did not work outside.

A really funky place in a totally non descript small town. The building from the outside didn't really telegraph what the interior would be like. Walk in and the lobby is the first indication your about to stay in a place with character. The highlight for my wife was the flannel sheets, soft and warm. There was also a down... More

Baring in mind that this hotel is really only used as a stopping off point between Uyuni and the Chilean border, it serves it's purpose quite commendably. Clean, spacious rooms and surprisingly nice food for such a remote location. Just remember that electricity shuts off around 10/11pm and hot water runs out very quickly. But serves a purpose and there... More

We have spent one night in Tayka hotel while traveling through Bolivian altiplano in May 2016. As most of our accommodation landed on 2,500 m above the mean sea level, we did not expect (couldn’t find the hotel while researching places to stay) to end up on ~4,750 amsl!!. The landscape around seemed unearthly, it was cold, windy, with little... More

The Tayka hotels have uneven quality standards. We stayed one night each in Desierto and Piedra and found Piedra to be the weaker of the two. The food was poor and the shower's water pressure was rather weak. Still, to have a clean private bathroom with hot running water in this area is no small feat. The hotel met all... More

It was so nice to be in the middle of nowhere. The hotel is lovely, the staff are super friendly and helpful, the food was very good. Dinner was served in a formal style. we went outside at night to see the stars, but it was very cold and stayed out for about 5 mins. Keep in mind, July is... More

I always valued when local people work at any hotel. However, they must improve their service. The hotel should arrange the rooming list for groups and not ask to the guests to select the rooms by themselves. On the other hand, I forgot my iPhone in the room, and I reported as soon as I realized it. This was a... More

We stayed for 1 night before we explored the salt lakes in Uyuni. This hotel is a government sponsored environmentally friendly project by using the local building materials and providing employment to the local. We stayed in the best room (#1). It is huge but the furnishing is very basic. It has a spectacular view of the lake. But how... More
