The three nights and almost four days that we spent at Aguas Arriba Lodge was by far the favorite part of our family’s 16-day trip to Argentina. The Lodge is perfect for those who like relaxing in the warm comfort of a beautiful lodge and rooms with the most gorgeous view of glaciers, delicious meals, incredible service, hiking at any level, fishing and yoga. When we booked the Lodge, we hoped the all-inclusive price (except alcohol) would be worth it. After our wonderful experience, we felt the price was a bargain! We loved every item of every meal, and the quality and variety matched what you could find in many cities. Do not bother bringing extra food, because you will not be hungry. The owners of the lodge, Pato and Ivor, are delightful conscientious hosts. They make you feel so welcome. The lodge staff to guest ratio is about one to one, when you include top notch support staff. They learn your name and try to help in any way they can, which makes the service very personable. The hiking on largely private wooded land well exceeded our expectations. We saw very few other hikers. The lodge’s boat will take you to a great variety of hikes around the large lake and if you get tired the boat will pick you up anywhere on the lake. The lodge had three excellent guides for hiking which allows guest to select the right hike for them. Our adult sons took several challenging hikes well above the tree lines, while my wife and I enjoyed hiking in the woods and to some scenic viewpoints that were more easily accessible. We tend to like hiking on our own, however, each of the three guides were so knowledgeable, friendly, and fun that it was a joy to walk with them. Yoga was a perfect way to end a long day of hiking. Fishing was as easy as putting on waders and walking out of the lodge with an already set up fly rod.
For anyone wanting a first class experience in Southern Patagonia, the Aguas Arriba Lodge is not to be missed and forever a cherished memory. We hope to return in the future!

Our experience at Aguas Arriba was simply spectacular. The location of the lodge is unique, with stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Waking up seeing the famous Fitz Roy is priceless. From the moment you arrive you have a guide practically for you 24/7, which makes the walks and trekking to explore the natural beauty of the area very special. And what can we say about the lodge's cuisine: it is simply incredible. The dishes offered are delicious and prepared with fresh and local ingredients. Each meal was an unforgettable culinary experience. But above all, if I have to stay with only one thing, it is that each member of the staff makes you feel at home. Starting with the owners, Pato and Ivor, who welcome you as if they were old friends, and continuing with reception, kitchen, guides, etc. The big little family Upstream.
I would recommend the Lodge to any nature lover looking for a unique getaway"

In the week of December 16-20, 2024, we were lucky enough to meet a lodge in Lago del Desierto, El Chaltén, where its owners Patricia and Ivor, along with their 14 assistants, make the magic of a number of factors to make your stay truly extraordinary. All the rooms have great views, the food more than exquisite, the attention, care and respect of all the staff second to none, the magnificent trekking guides, provide different options to places where admire a beautiful and challenging nature that takes your breath away but with the slogan of respecting and caring for it all the time. Aguas Arriba is synonymous with excellence, warmth, delicacy and unforgettable experience.

If one likes hiking, this is the place to go!!! The hikes are just amazing, the guides superb. No group hiking, basically every room has its own guide. We had the same guide for every walk. The property is in a remote location therefore you will never see anyone during your hikes. The hotel is very charming, outstanding service with great food. No issue accommodating my dietary restrictions. My wife have travelled the world and this hotel with its location and service, falls on our top five.

In fairness, the views are very nice an the logistics to get all working items in for such a remote location must be very hard and that does deserve a premium. But this is not a hotel. The owner on at least two occasions said this is their home. For USD1500/night you are paying for exclusivity and service. The people running this “lodge” are doing it as a means of permitting them to own a home where they do. They do not understand service or how to deescalate problems. You cannot walk in the woods without a guide and the guides are not professional guides. Why close shades at night if you have no curtains on the top (see picture). For USD1500/night, The room needs to be spotless, no dirt in windows (see pictures). Trekking shoes get dirty creating dirt in the house. I have pictures of my socks fully dirty from walking in the house, but trip advisor limits the amount of pictures. The owner complained that I had to take a phone call ruining their plans for the day. At USD1500, if a customer needs to take a call, the hotel adjusts. When I tried to walk away, the owner blocked the door and continue to fight. When they asked us to leave, they picked two more fights. At USD500/night worth going, not at this price. They have WiFi’s for owners, but don’t share and there is only one place to do Internet (and we asked for WhatsApp to with parents a merry Christmas on orthodox Christmas). A real disappointment.

We chose to spend three nights at the Agua Aribus Lodge after spending two weeks in Patagonia Chile, El Calafate and El Chatin. The Lodge had great views of Mount Fitz Roy and the Vespignani Glacier. The Lodge was beautiful and only has five rooms, was a wonderful serene getaway. Pato, Ivor and the entire staff were very warm and welcoming and made my wife and I feel special during our stay. They went above and beyond to enusure our stay was a memorable one. The food was phenomenal. Each day we had a private guide and completed a hike in the morning. Then sat down for a great lunch and then completed a hike in the afternoon. This was followed up with dinner in a nice cozy dining room setting. Each day we spent hiking and dining was exceptional. We hiked through the forest to a couple of glaciers, saw many waterfalls all either on the property or within a 5 - 10 minute boat ride. The Agua Aribus Lodge is more than a place to stay; it's an experience that connects you to the beauty of Patagonia. The stunning landscapes, personalized service, luxurious lodgings and outstanding food makes for a must-visit destination is you are seeking an unforgettable escape into nature. Highly recommended

We just returned from our stay at Aguas Arriba Lodge and can't wipe the smile off of our faces. Pato and Ivor and their world-class staff made us feel so at home and a part of their family in the most breathtaking location possible. The views are divine, the trekking activities are phenomenal, the place as a whole is a haven of tranquility and the staff is incredibly warm and attentive. An absolutely perfect combination!

We recently returned from a three week adventure in Patagonia , and we can't say enough about the region in general and Aguas Arribas in particular. First, it is remote! Aguas Arribas is only accessible by a small boat, after a long drive on gravel roads from El Chalten. From the moment you are greeted by friendly staff as you start your journey across the water, you feel you have been swept into another world. The pristine mountain lake surrounded by glaciers and forests is stunning. - and Aguas Arribas is the only property on it! We were greeted by the owners , Pato and Ivor, who are friendly and gracious hosts. They make you feel like a member of their family! During the day we went on private hikes with very friendly and knowledgeable guides, and visited breathtaking glaciers and forests. After an active day we felt we could indulge in all the wonders of their amazing kitchen - the food was fabulous. So thank you Pato and Ivor , guides Josephina and Pedro and all the rest of the Aguas Arribas family for an exoerience we will never forget!

This place is amazing, everything about it is great. It is isolated, no noise of cars, people... only nature. It is very comfortable, beautiful rooms and views, not to mention the common areas. It is very clean and well kept. The food is delicious, well balanced and tasty. The best part about this place is the people, owners and staff that make you feel welcome, with always a smile on their faces, they are obviously happy to work there and welcome you genuinely. Our stay was a real pleasure, the walks in nature, yoga practices and the people contributed to make our stay there the best part of our Patagonia trip. Thank you all.

How important is hiking the Fitzroy trail to you? If it is, then option 1 it should be. I admire your determination and enthusiasm.
I, myself, am not physically capable of tackling all the hikes you have planned, so it would be option 2 for me. In fact, I am planning to hike from the transfer drop off point to Aguas Arriba. Since I have hiked to the glacier, my next trip will include a hike through the woods from Aguas Arriba toward the Chilean border.
Whichever option you choose, just enjoy. You will love Patagonia as I have.
I am biased to Aguas Arriba as it is much more personable and if you have done the Moreno Glacier and seen the icebergs walking through the beautiful, forests and waterfall as around Aquas Arriba will provide a different experience. There are very few people around and the seclusion and experience is like you are the only people there. The service is fantastic as well. Cristina also suffers from day trippers and if the wind is up the boat ride to the Estancia can be very rough and it is a long ride.
There are more places to choose from in the El Chalten area.
