We took our walking group of 16 here for tea and scones after a lovely walk around Aberlady Bay. We were made very welcome, the scones were delicious, everything was well organised and the staff were very pleasant and attentive. The outlook from the dining room is wonderful.

The Mallard hotel is outstanding value for money. The owners are a lovely couple and I really like their no fuss laid back approach. Sometimes on TripAdviser, people seem to expect 5 star luxury at bottom dollar prices which I find wholly unfair and unrealistic in a tough economic climate. What the Mallard offers is a warm, friendly place to...

Thank you so much for your recent review of the Mallard. We are delighted with your comments on the hotel. My family has been welcoming golfers to the Mallard for over 50 years and believe we offer them hospitality with informality. Our location is second to none we believe, for the golfing fraternity! We do hope you will return this...

My friends and I visited for lunch. It was empty. Really quite no music in the background, lacking in atmosphere. The food was surprisingly lovely, all homemade and reasonably price. Just need a updating, food presentation could be better. Might help to do 2 courses for £10 or sometime like at at lunch time. Maybe with a advertising board outside,...

Thank you for your recent review of the Mallard. We thank you for your positive comments about the food. We also take on board your comments about the lack of atmosphere. We do in fact offer a 2 course special at both lunch and supper times. Winter trade can be variable but with spring around the corner we are about...

It's hard to write my negative views of this hotel as the folk running it are were so nice which was the redeeming aspect along with its good location. Perhaps it's been catering for undiscerning golfing groups for two long and may well be unaware of just how sad and tired the overall offering us. Some of the food was...

Thank you for your review of the Mallard. We take on board your comments. With spring approaching we are carrying out a programme of redecoration and maintenance but I am sorry that the room you stayed in was at that time lacking. I am not sure which room you refer to but rest assured there is currently no peeling wallpaper....

We were looking for a late lunch and decided on the mallard hotel for the first time and didn't regret it, we had a lovely meal with good service, and great prices for the portion sizes and a nice menu, decor is tired but added to the atmosphere

You will have noticed that all of our food is home cooked and we do try to keep improving the selection and standard of the offering. We believe we offer value for money. We are...

We arrived late for lunch due to really bad traffic. I called ahead to say we wouldn't make lunch service, I was told to come along anyway. We were made most welcome and the food was delicious. My mum was delighted at being there as the hotel features in the Quintin Jardine 'Skinner' series of books, the bar was as...

Thank you for your recent review of the Mallard. We are delighted with your comments. Quintin Jardine has done us justice in describing the bar and the outlook from it! The hotel is family run and we believe has its own personality, offering a drop of Highland hospitality in the Lowlands. We are also very pleased with your comments on...

This hotel is very run down and is in need of major refurbishment. From the outside it is drab and uninviting - it needs painting and the grounds/garden needs attention. When entering, there is a porch type area with chairs which have seen better days. Old logs and twig like trees which are fit for the bucket! I've never stayed...

Thank you for your recent review. I must start but saying we (the owners) are not unhappy so please don't be concerned for us. We are however surprised by your comments about the building. The exterior was painted in April and we believe that the garden is maintained to a reasonable standard with seasonal plantings and brimming window boxes. The...

Second visit in 2 years with an 8 man golf gang from Sweden. The hotel is perfectly situated in Gullane for golf there and for many super nearby courses. Very good food and even better owners and staff. Warm, friendly, accommodating and great sense of humour. We will be back next year!

Stayed there for the second time in two years. Ideal for golfers,as only yards from the golf course. Rooms were clean and tidy, and the breakfast was good. Did not spend a lot of time in the hotel so hard to do more of a review.

A busy weekend for The Mallard with a wedding but still managed to fit us in for a evening meal. A lovely warm atmosphere excellent food with the usual warm Scottish hospitality.
