We booked for Sunday lunch and left a message saying husband veggie but loves roast without the meat. We eat Sunday lunch out every week at many pubs or restaurants in North Devon/Cornwall and all do Veggie roast, ie Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, vegetables and either VEGGIE GRAVY or RED WINE sauce. The Royal Oak could provide neither veggie gravy...

After a 4 mile walk with our 2 dogs following the river from Tarr Steps to Withypool we had lunch at the Royal Oak. We sat next to the open log fire and really enjoyed lunch. Superb food with plenty of choices on the menu and several real ales to choose from. A very busy Saturday lunchtime in a traditional...

We live fairly close and choose to drive to this inn. The food was delicious but the bar area we sat in was really cold. They had a lovely log burning fire but unless you were sat right on top of it you would have been cold . The staff look like they need cheering up particularly the barman not...

Took myself off to Exmoor for a hike in Oct 16 and wanted somewhere to stay o/night. Found The Royal Oak Inn in Withypool on the net and booked. And, what a find. Everything I was hoping for. Quiet, fairly remote, old, log fire, great food, real ale, fantastic room, friendly people. I prefer to visit places like this in...

Very good dinner in pleasant ambiance, served by charming and friendly staff. We had a very enjoyable evening, and we shall certainly be returning soon as we can. The welcome was good, we were made to feel at home.

Have been here twice this week, once for evening meal and once for lunch. This pub is a long-time favourite of ours. It hasn't been horribly modernised or mucked about with so it retains it's charm and is always cosy. Meals are always good, cooked from fresh ingredients. Today we had steak pies, individually baked with proper pastry and good...

Lovely inn in a beautiful part of England. The food is delicious and you need to reserve a table as it gets very busy in the evening. Friendly staff and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Bathroom a bit quirky, though, with mirrors all round the walls. But it was adequate and functional.

We are staying just up the road from the place which is jolly handy(😜). We've stayed in the pub & eaten lots of times, it only ever seems to get better. The food is fantastic with a very good choice & the beer is kept so well it's our favourite! We will be back again this holiday & to stay...

Review covers only a lunchtime experience. The service was weak, rushed, and lacked any personal touch. Staff were rushed off their feet, despite the few lunchtime guests. The food, whilst well presented, was more like convenience food, than what one would expect in an Exmoor pub. I would not return - there are many much better pubs in Winsford and...

Stayed here again for the 4th or 5th time, Cannot fault Paul and his staff. Our room was spotless and bathroom lovely. Towels and dressing gowns freshly laundered. Our evening meal was perfect especially after our 12 mile walk around Exmoor, the lower bar is perfect to just relax in and better still our sleepy spaniels had plenty of room...
