Stayed here overnight on way down to Dorset as part of a Secret Escapes deal. Very spacious, old fashioned room that had an old bath as well as a modern shower. The staff were very hospitable and made us very welcome. The food was excellent and good value.

Just had a delightful lunch in their bar with our two dogs, the latter being offered water immediately and a sausage each at the end! Lovely food for the humans, too, and very kind staff. A very pleasant experience.

We stayed for two nights on a Secret Escapes deal (18th and 19th Nov). Staff were very helpful on check in and couldn't do enough for us. We stayed in Olive which is one of the outside rooms. It was a lovely big room absolutely immaculate and very quiet. As my husband is a smoker the little private seating area... More

My husband and I decided to stay here on the way back from a family wedding at the weekend. The website was very impressive so I had high hopes. Unfortunately only a twin room was available so we decided to book it anyway and push the beds together! The room (Mulberry) was lovely and spacious, clean and modern with some... More

My wife and I had a Travelzoo deal where we stayed overnight, bed and breakfast and a three course meal. The accommodation was excellent as was the meal. The hotel forr travelling on the bus, as you are near, Marlow, Henley and Wallingford. The food was very good, and the staff all were polite, professional and friendly. Hopefully next year... More

Set in lovely quiet village though on a main road so would imagine some noise to the rooms on the front. We were in a suite at the back of the hotel which very quiet and peaceful. The room was very spacious well thought out and immaculate. A very modern romantic feel. Separate toilet walk in shower and bath by... More

This is in the same group as the Crown at Playhatch and indeed just as good with great food, good Brakspear beers all in good condition. The room was very clean as was the dining area and the bar. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Situated in the small village of Nettlebed, not much to do in the village... More

Booked via Secret Escapes for a superior room, three course dinner and breakfast and simply loved it. Following an excellent starter we chose steak as a main course and wasn't disappointed. The desert was to die for. Bed was almost too comfortable to get out of for the full English breakfast. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Lovely hotel,l we even had a four poster bed. We had a superb dinner and the breakfast was good. We visited Dorchester Abbey which was very interesting but were surprised that the river was a fair walk away.

Admittedly we went on a Late Luxury deal so perhaps if we'd paid full whack I wouldn't have been so impressed, but in the circumstances impressed I was! There are lots of little nods to the South African theme from the faux animal skin chairs to the monkey gland basted steaks. It would have been a full 5* review but... More
