Stopped for a light lunch. Brilliant. Food and wine reasonable and delicious. Real fire. Staff very pleasant and attentive. Highly recommended. If you need to use public transport, the bus stops right outside, towards both Alnwick and Newcastle.

We stayed here to walk a bit of the coastal path on our way up to Edinburgh. The bar is clearly the village hub with locals dropping in for a drink and a chat and we decided to eat in the bar and were served with delicious food by friendly staff. Some time after dinner we went up to a... More

This is a busy local pub with rooms. Our room (2) was over the front and it was huge. The decor was lovely, the bathroom equally great. The only small niggle with the room was the TV. I understand why it's where it is but it's really small and unless you are sat on the bed difficult to watch. We... More

Me and my wife visited here for Sunday lunch, roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, every mouthful was gorgeous, highly recommend the food. Friendly staff, this was our first visit and we intend to go back again before our holiday is over. We received a warm welcome and were able to take our dog into the bar too.

Had a fabulous meal here - the sausage and mash was the nicest I've ever had - the gravy was just so delicious. All three of us loved our food - the steak and ale pie and the mushroom risotto - and lovely puds too. The atmosphere is warm and friendly - the only downside is that you can't book... More

An excellent meal. Good service and presentation. Lovely atmospheric pub in this seaside village. Only drawback to this pub is that parking is difficult in this village, but well worth the effort. Also excellent choice of beers.

Had lunch here yesterday and thought the place was very good. Kids had the pulled pork sandwich which was huge and polished off. My wife had the roast beef sandwich which looked great and I had the soup and prawn sandwich which was also good. Great thick cut chips. Only downside for me was the hand pulled which wasn't great... Booked a trip to Alnmouth on a whim - having seen this picturesque seaside town so many times in the passing on the train South. We just had to go. Did some research and booked into the Red Lion. Arrived at 8pm on a dark rainy night. Tired and hungry. The staff on duty (Laura) was lovely and quickly booked... More

I don't normally leave a review, but I was so disappointed by the accommodation and food at the Red Lion. The photographs of the bedrooms look bright and welcoming, but in reality our room (number 1) was disappointing and small. The electric shower had no power at all, it was like showering under a watering can. The bed quilt, was... More
