My wife and I spent the most amazing 4 days in the Royal Lion from Christmas eve until leaving for home on the 27th December. The staff, food, accommodation and general leisure facilities were all excellent. The team led by Lesley Stone and her team are amazing and we'd especially like to thank Briggita, Levi and all of the other...

Had a long wet walk around Lyme Regis and found a table here for 6 at lunchtime, staff were friendly and helpful and the bar was very welcoming with log fires. Lunch was excellent with huge portions at very reasonable prices.

We popped into the Red Lion for a drink on Sunday lunchtime and spotted the Sunday lunches being served to other guests so we decided to eat there. What an excellent choice we both had superb and plentyfull Roast Beef with lovely yorkshires and veg. Even an extra jug of gravy all for a reasonable £10.95. We'll most definitely be...

We go to Lyme often, usually in the summer for sailing and drawing expeditions. This time we felt in need of a few days' peace and quiet in the country after the pre-Christmas rush at work and school. We'd never stayed at a Lyme hotel before, usually going for a more Spartan option, but thought we'd give ourselves a post-Christmas...

I wrote a very long review of our Christmas stay at the Royal Lion Hotel in 2015, so I will not go into so much detail this time. We chose to stay in the same large room and everything was to the same high standard. Some of the hotel staff were the same, but there were inevitably some new recruits...

Another lovely break at The Royal Lion, this time we brought friends with us. Again, the service and friendliness of all the staff was excellent. They are cheerful, smiling and chatty. We stayed for Dinner Bed and Breakfast, and our evening meals were a delight, good food cooked to perfection, and staff helped us choose perfect wines to compliment our...

Arrived early, no problem, balcony room ready and able to check in. Car park great, takes the angst out of parking in Lyme. Nice spacious room with good sea views, nothing to fault. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of the idyllic town of Lyme Regis, 'the Pearl of Dorset', is the Royal Lion Hotel, a stunning haven located in the middle of the High Street, with its own private car park. Lyme Regis is a picturesque town on the West Dorset border, part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site. Steeped in history, it is renowned for its fascinating past, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the unique fossils found in the cliffs and beaches, and for being the central location of the novel and the 1981 film, 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. Situated less than 100 metres from the sea, the Royal Lion Hotel is a perfect base from which to explore the locale. Built in 1601 as a coaching inn, the Hotel has been extensively refurbished, yet still retains much of its history and unique charm. Oak beams, wood panelling and open fires help to create a warm, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, with new additions of its own swimming pool and other facilities. Wi-Fi, although not available in the bedrooms, is available to guests in several areas of the hotel. Privately owned and managed, the Royal Lion Hotel has gained an enviable reputation for its friendly service, world class food and wine and leisure offerings. ... more   less
