The staff at the White Hart were helpful and good humoured. All the public rooms were comfortable and welcoming. Our room was spacious and everything was in good working order (even the sash window). The restaurant offered a choice of good food. Moretonhampstead is a lovely unspoiled little town with the White Hart at its centre. (look out for the...

Visited here on New Years Day for some dinner, we are from Kent and were recommended by a family member to visit here! It was a lovely fresh setting and I would love to stay here! We were welcomed by the friendly staff and seated in the reception where we were brought our drinks whilst our table was prepared. When...

The White Hart is not just extremely comfortable, with wonderful service and excellent food but the generosity of spirit in this charming little hotel made for a memorable stay. Tempting treats in the rooms, special little beds for the children, huge baths with a never ending supply of hot water, afternoon tea one day, mulled wine and mince pies the...

We had two nights here over New Year. The hotel was a lovely traditional inn, which had very nice décor and log fires. Our room was large as was the bathroom and well equipped. We felt very comfortable throughout the stay. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The New Year's Eve dinner was fun with everyone interacting well and...

This has been our 10th 4-night Christmas break at the White Hart and the standards show no sign of slipping. Karen and her team continue to please with accommodation (room 1) and excellent meals. Perhaps a little over-doggie this year but nothing to concern. To paraphrase Arnie, "We'll be back!"

The rooms leave something to be desired and the kitchen closes at 8.30 which after a very long drive was frustrating. Luckily we found a friendly Indian in Chagford Really not a place for a romantic stay and about bearable otherwise

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel and we are sorry we did not meet your expectations. Most guests love our hotel, our rooms, and what we offer as can be seen in the vast majority of reviews on TripAdvisor. We do stop serving food at 8.30pm and this is included in the confirmation that we send...

This a warm, super comfortable, cosy and homely small, characterful Hotel in this delightful small town/large village. The guest rooms are very well equipped and most comfortably furnished. The public rooms are also very nicely decorated and have comfortable, large armchairs to collapse into as needed!! The bar is a popular spot with locals and travelers a like with a...

Very, very acceptable. It's a medium sized coaching inn sort of place with a comfortable bar and good food. Could do more with local produce, I feel, but a good place to stay and to eat. Right in the centre of Moretonhampstead.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Hotel. As you say, the Hotel is in the centre of this small moorland town, making it an excellent base from which to explore Dartmoor as a whole. We do source a lot of produce locally and have recently been awarded a Gold Taste of the West award in recognition of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The White Hart Hotel is a traditional old posting house at the centre of the small moorland town of Moretonhampstead set within the spectacular Dartmoor National Park. Under new ownership since early 2012, the White Hart Hotel dates back to 1639 and this historic Grade II listed building is being sympathetically refurbished to provide all modern comforts within a traditional setting. Our comfy sofa-filled lounge has a roaring log fire where you can relax and combine the delights of a traditional cream tea with the convenience of free wifi. An ideal base from which to explore this beautiful area of Devon, the White Hart has 20 well-appointed bedrooms in the main hotel and a further eight in a separate mews building. Our restaurant features the freshest local, seasonal produce cooked in a style that lets the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. A free house, we stock a range of local real ales and have a handpicked wine list. DOGS - Dogs and Dartmoor go together. Dartmoor is great walking country and dogs are welcome everywhere in the hotel, except in the dining room. CYCLING - Dartmoor is a great area for cycling and we can offer secure bike storage, and have a drying room. SHOOTING - The area is popular for the sport of shooting and the Hotel is used regularly by shooting parties and we have a gun safe and have a drying room. GOLF - There are a number of good golf courses nearby and we can offer special rates with Bovey Castle Golf course, just 2 miles away, and Okehampton Golf Course, 12 miles away. ... more   less
