A fabulous little hotel. The room was really clean. The shower was excellent with lots of hot water. The streets were a bit noisy on a busy Friday night. Saying that we slept so soundly we missed breakfast!!
Reception was cordial and adequate. The rooms were clean and comfortable, although somewhat small. WiFi was a problem, only in the lobby could we get online. Parking was possible in thet street close to the hotel...
If you are looking for a peaceful, isolated getaway, this is the place. Located about 15 miles outside of Chaves, the Quinta is located on a small working farm (horses, cattle, fig trees, etc), overlooking the rolling hills. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The owners could not be more warm and welcoming- one of them speaks fluent English, as well. Relax by the pool, walk through the forrest trails along the hillside, pick fresh figs, or go for a horseback ride. Ramiro & Preciosa will point you to nearby vineyards, shopping, dining, and activities. Book the Douro River wine tasting boat tour, or stroll the streets of Chaves (away from the tourist crowds of Lisbon or Porto). Ask Ramiro to grill sardines in his outdoor oven, he might gladly oblige!…
Difficult to find, but well worth it when you get there, Quinta do Real is a large working vineyard and farm just south of Chaves. Climbing from the plateau at Vidago up into the hills, the views from the top were spectacular over the valley beneath, and we were lucky with the weather - blue skies all round. Ramiro and his mother are charming hosts, friendly and welcoming, and the glass of port that evening, together with a little conversation, was a lovely touch. We stayed in converted stabling, in medium-sized rooms with bathroom attached, all very clean and comfortable, and a huge bed with carved wooden base and headboard. Celeste was very concerned that we would be comfortable and warm enough, as the evenings were chilly, but she need not have worried. The tranquillity was absolute - not a sound, and you had to listen to the silence. The accommodation is arranged around the courtyard of the quinta, which is a beautiful building, and we were very fortunate to have a guided tour by our hosts. A private chapel leads from the main sitting room, and the chimney in the kitchen, situated centrally, was as large as a small porch! Breakfast the first morning was a mixture of local breads, cheeses and hams, and the second morning scrambled eggs with herbs - delicious - all cooked by Ramiro, a man of many parts. We also bought a bottle of his wine, which was an interesting and complex white, and which we later enjoyed by the seaside later in our visit. We used our time there by visiting Braganza, Vinhuis and Chaves, and it proved to be an excellent base for the mountain region.…
Been there with my wife and kids several times. Ramiro Guerra (the owner) is an excellent host. The property is so quiet that is impressive the silence sometimes. Amazing view all around. If there is a farm to stay in the northeast, this is the one you should consider. L.Maia
Animo a todas las personas que se viajen a Chaves o alrededores, que se hospeden en la quinta do real. Es realmente encantadora y el trato ofrecido por los dueños no puede ser mejor. Merece la pena ir, aunque se encuentre alejada.
