Beautifully appointed room and bath, wish we could have stayed longer. Desmond, Melanie and Gordon were wonderful hosts and welcomed us into their home. We will look forward to returning to Glenlohane again.

Lovely restored cottage in private setting with beautiful sunny flower-filled area to the back opening out seamlessly on to farmland. Very spacious for 4 people with very comfortable beds and all the amenities you would expect. The cottage is about a mile outside Kanturk which is a very pleasant small town with good services, a castle and a couple of...

5 Star on ALL realms. First and most memorable the Hospitality: Desmond, Melanie, and their son Gordon are the kindest and most welcoming family that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They went above and beyond to make my stay at Glenlohane remarkable. Being a solo, female traveler, alone for the first time in a foreign country, there...

Glenlohane was truly the perfect Irish cottage. It is an idyllic cottage set in the countryside – horses, sheep, and beautiful gardens. The cottage is cozy and charming, yet had all modern conveniences (I should mention that the showers had the best water pressure in all of Ireland). The location was the perfect base for exploring our “O’Keeffe” roots as...

My wife, myself, and my three children just stayed at Glenlohane, and we had a very charming and relaxing time that will be recorded in our family memories. We have been commenting during that latter leg of our trip in Ireland how much we enjoyed Glenlohane. Desmond and Melonie were very pleasant and enjoyable to talk to about the history...

Glenlohane is a country guest house that is like no other. The hosts, Melanie, Desmond and their son Gordon are warm and knowledgeable and make you feel right at home. Glenlohane was built in the mid-18th century; Desmond grew up here and the family takes great pride in the beautifully decorated house, the glorious grounds and the cuisine. The family...

We had the pleasure of staying at Glenlohane and meeting Desmond, Melanie and Gordon, who made our stay in Ireland an unforgettable experience. The scenery around Glenlohane is breathtaking and Glenlohane offers the tranquility of the Irish countryside but is only a short drive or train ride away from many of the most popular attractions in and around Cork County....

I have stayed at Glenlohane four times in as many months, which says it all! The delightful house is in a wonderful position, and Desmond and Melanie are the most welcoming hosts. They are also incredibly informative about the local area. There is no better way of imbibing the atmosphere of North Cork than by staying with Desmond and Melanie...

Our warm welcome from Desmond set the tone for our wonderful, but short stay at Glenlohane. Both Desmond and Melanie are perfect hosts and their son Gordon an excellent breakfast guest. The home itself, built in 1760, envelopes you in its style and warmth. The cosy study a perfect place to gather around the fire and chat, Desmond is a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Neither an hotel or a professional guest house, Desmond, Melanie and their son, Gordon, run Glenlohane as an extremely private house with an air of friendly informality so unique to Irish Country House Bed and Breakfasts. Certainly not considered a 'room for the night' type of B&B, there are no public signs at the roadside to draw the attention of casual visitors. Guests are welcomed on a pre-arranged basis and know where they are going by the detailed directions in this web site. There are no public and private quarters as in a professional place and guests may use facilities of the entire house as if staying with friends. There are family dogs and a cat in the background and animals play a large part of life at Glenlohane. Less than a quarter of a mile away, and still on the farm, is a Self Catering Cottage that can be rented on a weekly basis. Apart from farm animals, there are also horses, ponies, fantail pigeons and bantam hens in the traditional stable yard.Whether it be at Glenlohane for B&B or Glenlohane Cottage for self catering, staying is for the discerning visitor who wishes to learn more about Ireland's history and culture through personal contact with the owners. One is also well positioned for sightseeing throughout the Scenic Southwest of the country. ... more   less
