Nice place and beautiful situated. More than plenty space to park your car. The school is a school. And that's not an hotel. Besides that the staff was absolute good. The place was clean and the rooms OK. The bathroom is medium but clean. Breakfast is in a big school restaurant.

This is an Edda hotel which was our first experience of an Edda and it was a delight. This Edda is a university accommodation for most of the year. Our room was clean, spacious and had a great walk in shower. We really appreciated the balcony and the view across the lake was stunning. Loads of car parking space, staff... More

The view of the lake and the proximity to Fontana were the best features. If you book a package, be sure to bring all the information regarding the details of your package (and consider checking in while the home office is open so they can call) as the staff does not know about them. The restaurant is good for breakfast,... More

This is a school in the winter and used for visitors in the summer. It overlooks the lake with great views. There is ample space - lobby and lounges. It is quite simply decorated and I can see why another reviewer says it lacks atmosphere, but there is a lot going for it. Rooms were a better size than others... More

This boarding school is used as hotel in tourist season. and you may notice this. It has no atmosphere, but is a pragmatic, efficient place to sleep and eat. The rooms are okay, as is the breakfast. I don't have experiences with the quality of the dinner. Absolutely not top notch, but an average way of supplying accomodation

It is a dormitory style hotel located in a school. Quiet, clean. Bed is a bit narrow but acceptable. Separate shower and bathroom are better than expected. Didn't try the breakfast as it's a bit pricey, $25. In general we found food and everything else are more expensive here! There's a small supermarket down the road just minutes away where... More

My husband and I enjoyed this hotel. Our room was a nice size and was very clean. Everyone was very friendly at this hotel. The view of the lake was beautiful! It was in a great location and close to Thingvellir National Park and some great restaurants.

We only went to the restaurant. The restaurant was a bit overpriced. The food was not bad (everybody ate his plate), but also not the best. The staff could have been more friendly, but it still was okay. You do have a nice view over the lake.

This place is vastly overpriced. Nearly $200 USD for a room that is, of course, a school dorm during the rest of the year. My mom made the reservation without knowing that, so that's our fault for not doing our research. Still--a fair price for this room would have been closer to $100. The whole place--the furniture, the laminate flooring,... More

Dear traveler, You are correct that Hotel Edda Laugarvatn IKI is only operated during summertime and used as a school dorm during winter time. As such it is categorized as a two star hotel although the view over Lake Laugarvatn, the comfortable medium sized guest rooms and the restaurant may suggest that it is a 2-3 star hotel. We are... Unlike a lot of people reviewing here, we do our homework before booking hotels and yes, we know it is a school dorm. All of the Edda Hotels are school dorms. They are also clean, reasonably priced and in good locations. This was our 3rd trip to Iceland and probably the 5th or 6th Edda that we have stayed at.... More
