Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Wow! Fabulous! First stop right off the plane and we loved everything about it!! Location is good: close to Gorden circle, selection of restaurants within few minutes. Breakfast was delicious with view on the river and geothermal - impressive! and service very nice. Highly recommend as a base close to Gloden circle.

The hotel is notable for having a great restaurant and really excellent breakfast bar. The location is fantastic, with some great local restaurants and good access to the Golden Circle and not far from Reykjavik. The highlight is definitely the geothermal hot tub. We were able to see the Northern Lights from this hot tub, which was an unforgettable experience. The only challenge was our room being fairly cold initially, although the hotel provided a space heater which was very effective.

Stayed for one night in January. The hotel was ok but the outside does look a bit like a prison camp - some tongue and groove panelling would do a lot to improve the aesthetic. The room was ok but very small and a bit scruffy. However the bed was comfortable and the tv was a smart tv. The hot tub was nice and we took our own drinks there - think we were the only people in the hotel. The dinner was very good but it should be for the price. Overall you are paying for the view and not the room.

We really liked it here. My wife and I were on honeymoon and spent a night here. It's in the middle of a geothermal active area, to put it mildly! Lots of hot springs you can check out, or watch the land steam from the hot tubs! We had a very picturesque room overlooking the river. Would definitely recommend, though be warned it's not anything luxurious - more unique. Chris and Caitlin

Clean, comfortable and with great surroundings! We had some wild weather and felt safe, comfortable and at ease. Loved the two kitty greeters. Helped me to not miss my own. :) Breakfast was good, and the geothermal tubs were HOT and amazing as well. Beds could be more comfortable - kind of hard and pillow variety would be nice. Maybe more care around the building/landscape. Ultimately, none of this impacted our stay at all - it was lovely. I know some reviews here disagree, but we found them to be inaccurate and we had a lovely stay and comparable to many other places we stayed in Iceland. Even nicer than our 4 star hotel in Reykjavík! I think people don’t realize what kind of weather these building exteriors have to hold up to… we were happy and we will be back!

This is a frustrating one, the hotel has so many good things going for it, the setting and facilities should make this an exceptional place to stay .... however, the outside of it and small details really let it down. cons .. the outside of the property looks a bit like a prison camp. the railings and the partitions on the balconys look stained and again prison esque. it's just not aesthetically pleasing which is a real shame and wouldn't cost too much to make exceptional. The pool should be turned into another hot tub or something as it's a bit of a waste. positives Sauna, hot tubs are great The setting, next to the river is beautiful, balcony view is great (if it wasn't for stained dividers and old barrier). The food..... yes its expensive, but it is exceptionally good and in my opinion, worth it. staff are great. worth a visit, this place could be Exceptional, but as it is, you come away with pros and cons.

Beautiful location but rooms were nice but you're paying for the view. Hot tub (2) and sauna/shower area were perfect. We didn't have dinner on site and breakfast was in a pretty atrium setting. The breakfast buffet was basic for Iceland - yogurts, bread, cheese, sliced meats and a few hot items.

I wanted to really like this place but sadly wouldn’t go back. In my opinion it’s not a boutique hotel it’s more like a motel. Our room was ok but the shower was grubby. The room had scruffy curtains and everyone walking by could see into our room. The evening meal was delicious but the waiter measured my white wine in the same beaker he used to measure red wine. The meal was very expensive but we did enjoy it. The breakfast was ok but nothing exceptional. Some of the staff seemed very miserable and I can only assume they were not enjoying their job.

We were really looking forward to staying in this hotel but were disappointed. We found the welcome not very warm and a bit robotic. The room was tiny- no where to put your suitcase and the bathroom was even smaller. We did enjoy the hot tub which was right outside of our room. We found the dinner menu pricy so opted for dinner in town. It was very windy and it was hard to sleep as the isolation is poor so it feels like the wind is blowing in the room. There was a store and curtain on the window but no curtain on the window in the door so we didn’t sleep as the sun shone right in your face. Breakfast was nice but not exceptional. We enjoyed the geothermal walk behind the hotel but if you want to go to the river to bathe, it’s better to take the car. It’s highly overrated.

Really really disappointed in this hotel. The website is so deceiving. The reality is very different. So scruffy outside- the pool was empty so out if use. The hot tub was empty when I wanted to use it. Led to believe the river was warm by the hotel but it wasn’t- it’s a 3 mile trek up a mountain. The room was dirty and very small. The shower rack fell off the wall when in the shower- tiny bathroom with a very foisty smell . The room didn’t smell great. Had a rubbish view of the car park - with people constantly walking past the window of the bedroom. The walls are paper thin you could hear next door using the bathroom!! Only gets one star as got a late checkout and the breakfast was nice. I would not recommend this hotel at all. We paid over £400 for one night in a family room and felt completely ripped off. The website should be a truer reflection of reality- but then I suppose no one would book!
