A very unique, rustic and charming guesthouse. There are steep stairs to the bedrooms so not good for people with mobility issues. A very nice room with comfortable bed, hot shower, tea and coffee making facilities, some toiletries, hairdryer on request. One minute from Durbar Square. Their cafe is open all day serving good food and the breakfast was the best we had on our tour of Nepal. A great but too short stay.

I love this place and have stayed here countless times. It is a beautifully restored, old house, right in the centre of Patan, very near Durbar Square, but in a sideline, so it does not feel touristy. The rooms are full of character, with beautiful wooden details. The decor and bedding is all quite minimalistic, which I like, but might not be for everyone. Everything is spotless and comfort is taken care of, e.g. electric blankets for winter. I would also like to mention the breakfast, which is delicious and healthy, and the coffee is excellent!

It has been more than a decade since I first stayed at Traditional Homes. I walked in off the street after a booking at another hotel was unavailable and the manager was so friendly showing me to a beautiful room on the second floor. And then as we got talking he found out that I was the photographer who did publicity shots for them a decade ago. He then offered an upgrade with the suite on the top floor with a small terrace looking out over the city. It was as clean and as elegant as it was 10 years ago. Absolutely love this place and give the place, their staff, location and food all 5 stars.
Two minutes from the amazing museum and the square. Thank you. Definitely we will come again.

Lovely place to stay. It was very cute, comfy beds, quiet at night, very attentive and lovely staff, hot water, drinking water, wifi and a cute little restaurant below. I’d definitely recommend and stay again.

The rooms were exceptionally comfortable, clean, and provided a peaceful and quiet rescue in the busy city. The staff's attentiveness and friendliness were remarkable, they went above and beyond to fulfill any request. The breakfast was delicious, great coffee. I very much enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend it to others!

I have been staying at Traditional Homes Swotha more than 10 times over the past years.
The place is very charming, with a cosy, warm and peaceful atmosphere. It is a little oasis in the middle of the busy city, and it has been my home away from home everytime I was visiting Nepal.
The staff is always helpful and friendly. Breakfast is delicious.
I can only recommend to stay there, and take the opportunity to thank them for always making my stay in Nepal very special.

It is a haven of peace. Very healthy atmosphere in the rooms. People very kind and helpful. You eat very well. Traditional architecture.
It was my second stay and I'm looking forward to go back.
Once the street work are finished the access will also be better.

A friend of the architect who renovated this delightful guest house recommended it to me as the ideal place to recuperate for a couple of days, and discover a less frantic Kathmandu after an intense conference experience in another part of town. Booking was easy and done with grace and generosity (and a nice little discount!); I arrived at 10pm in the middle of Patan Durbar Square, and was met by the warm hearted manager Camille in the middle of the square and guided home after an sms SOS. The other Nepali members of staff were equally charming, welcoming and helpful. The rooms are simply, thoughtully and elegantly done up, with comfortable beds (I loved the cream cotton sheeting), plentiful hot water, lots of sunlight. The traditional/modern blend is well judged. I particularly liked the rugs in my room, which are very necessary with the slight chill of a spring morning or evening, and the translucent marble bricks i the wall between bathroom and bedroom allowing a warm light to diffuse through in both directions. They made a great effort to provide a gluten free breakfast (although I yearned to eat some of the delicious looking pastries!); the yoghurt was particularly good. Bring a padlock, as the rooms have very attractive cupboards set into the wall which you can padlock shut - much more aesthetically pleasing than the modern hotel safe. The location is perfect for getting lost in the wonderful maze of Patan's streets nearby. After people telling me how hectic Kathmandu is these days, it is quite hard to imagine after the tranquillity and grace I experienced at this guest house. There is even wifi which seems to function pretty well. My room, the twin, had a lovely small balcony which gets lots of morning sun, and there is a larger roof terrace on the top which you can migrate to when the sun moves. I can't recommend it more highly.

After landing in Patan early one morning without any guest house booking it was suggested we take a look at Traditional Homoes Swotha by an unassuming shopkeeper standing on a corner. After perusing the rooms my wife and I took one look at each other knowing we couldn't stay anywhere else.
The rooms were elegantly but simply appointed, maintaining the traditional Newari architecture - roomy, warm and comfortable. The shower was to die for, at last reliable hot water a first since arriving in Nepal a month ago. Each morning we woke to a gourmet breakfast of delicious bakery items, fruit, nuts, juice and coffee or tea. This was served in your room or out on your personal balcony.
Even more importantly the manager, Camille and her staff made you feel completely at home. They could not do enough for you, from helping to orientate you to the area to even organising to have my watch fixed. We can not speak highly enough of the service offered and by the end of our stay we felt like we had made new friends.
When we left Patan for our next adventure we had wished we had stayed and explored the Kathmandu Valley from our "palace" Traditional Homes Swotha.

We had already checked into a different guesthouse when we -by chance- stumbled over this new property just around the corner of magnificent Durbar Square in Patan. We found Swotha Homes so appealing to us that we decided to immediately get our luggage and stay there only. The interiors of the home are a combination of old Newari architecture and new modern and bold elements like concrete floor, modern furniture and a nice lighting concept. We enjoyed the views over Patan's roofs from the balcony and roof top terrace. The staff of Swotha was very helpful and a smile always to be found on their faces. Breakfast is served in the room or on the balcony, including delicious bakery items like buns, cinnamon rolls as well as fresh fruit, juice and a strong coffee or tea. The nights in January were quite chilly, but the combination of the provided hot water bottle and a unique and interesting "mobile fireplace in a terracotta pot" kept us wonderfully warm in our sleep.
We are very happy to have found this place and we hope that Swotha Traditional Homes soon becomes renowned in Patan for the quality and uniqueness that they provide.

As a general advise, we find Patan to be an equally good basis for all day excursions around the Kathmandu Valley, and very suitable for people who like escape the "touristy" atmosphere of Kathmandu's Thamel.
