We wrote a review two years ago and the same applies. This place is 15/10. All staff are friendly and helpful. There was plenty of food and always good. A real shout out to those girls in the kitchen. Ramon and Alexis were fantastic hosts and really looked after our group of 7 as did Rio. It was great for the non surfer mums to have the pool this time round. Our surf guide Mus was always ready to help out and take us on adventures. This is a lovely quiet surf camp. Yes it is a 4-5 hour drive from the airport but once you’re there it is all worth it. Really well placed for surfing. A big thank you again to everyone who works at the camp. We will be back.
Awesome Place under coconut trees in front of Ujung Bocor - a great left. 3 Meals a day are part of the package deal. The food was the worst we ate in 20 Years of Indonesian surf travels. Unhealthy mix of failed western cuisine and cheap instand indofoot meals. It's a shame. And don't get me wrong - we wouldn't have any problem at all with basic but fresh local food choices. It's just a total fail of a kitchen. The kitchen lady's are awesome I guess it's more of a management issue. Sorry. Breakfast was ok, i guess it's hard to mess up scrambled eggs.
I (single traveller) stayed at Sumatra Surf Resort in November 2018. I can highly recommend the Surf Resort not only because of the amazing Resort, but also because of Krui and its beautiful surroundings, the very warm staff and the delicious food. I surfed a lot and enjoyed the time at the Resort (nice chill-out area, great pool at the beach) and in Krui. Go there, catch waves and enjoy beautiful Sumatra!
Ok, I traveled there with Scott G. from Hawaii. I can't do better than his review. It's been a year since I have since our trip and still raving about the wave out front. We enjoyed a high level of hospitality from every one there. Raymon, Mel, Hasam, Hamsa (good ping pong matches my friend, hope your still there} if i didn't name anybody else please forgive, you all were great ,clean clothes and rooms were very nice, hot water ooooh yea, the drivers that took us to and from the airprort (my grip strength improved), The cooking was great and they made my omelet to order every morning after surf(onion tomato no cheese) the even let me in there kitchen. but they could only improve on the pizza sauce. the local Sumatran dishes they made were a real treat. fried mushrooms wow, All I can think about is how to get back there. Now for the waves. Ujung bocur was simply incredible long fast perfectly peeling walls that started off top to bottom and then would pick up speed and almost double in size by the time you got the end of the wave. It's has more punch than it looks. Way Jambu .Heavy barreling the whole way, don't surf there at low tide. One guy tried and had to come to our camp for first aid, he looked like a tiger got him on his whole back, He was out of the water for a week. . Krui left was like ok. Jimmys left and right was worth the trip and paying for the drive package. I can't say enough good things about Nana, ;He is not part of the camp but he was a big part of the experience. He was on the point taking photos every day and we even hired him to go with us to the other surf spot in the area, He's good and that's how he makes hes living and he lives just down the street. Bring a sd card or something to make it easy to get your photos. Over all I highly recommend the Sumatra surf camp. we were there June 2017…
After moving for another surf accomodation in the same area Sumatran Surf Resort was by far a stand out. Excellent value for money, location, staff were amazing too. They have kept the coconut trees and keep them maintained to provide beautiful surroundings and plenty of shade. Great pool with ocean view along with a viewing tower.
