The Beach Club makes everything so special from having three delicious included meals a day to cars at your service taking you to any wave you like. The food is like fine-dining along with little sweets, treats and donuts that you can have any time. The waves were second-to-none with the beachy on your door step as well as a selection of different types of waves only a drive away. The staff treat you incredibly well and helped us whether it be maintenance or staying healthy and avoiding any stomach issues. There's also plenty to do outside of surfing like waterfall walks, markets and river donuting which the staff set up for us anytime. No doubt 11/10 stay and will definitely make a return.

Been on a lot of surf trips and this joint topped them all. Starting with the warm welcome you get from the boys when you 1st rock up. The boys really make you feel at home and they know the area like the back of their hands. scored waves in the morning and when the winds came up knew exactly where to go. Villas had air con and the grounds around the camp are sweet with a lot of places to chill. Beers were cold and the waves were empty. Thanks for the epic times boys 🙏

Myself and 5 of my mates went to MBC from the 8-18th of feb 2020 and could not have had a better experience. Nothing beats waking up in the morning to cup of coffee and glassy kegs out the front.

Everything from the price, food, people, accomodation, activities and of course the waves. All transport included in the price so you don’t have to worry about a thing, the team have you covered. We got pumping beachy, the point, the peak and of corse jennys all in the off season. All to come back in the arvo for a glass off and an ice cold binny.

Thank you to all the boys and girls who have made MBC what it is. You guys are killing and we will be sure to see you soon.

Would've left within two days ,no sleep no waves and other waves close by crowded and small.
Poor accommadation poorly run.Did not meet up to anything that was spruked on the website be very wary.If the waves out front are no good you have to travel at your cost to spots that will be crowded or flat or unsurfable.

No power at night so fans turn off and the mozzies move in. Food is ok not awesome. Some comfy lounges would go down well. If you like 20 knot slop after 8 am, you can surf all day everyday; after that you have to spend money travelling longer than the website's stated 15 minutes, up and down the coast to find something surfable. These trips costs varying amounts depending on the destination, (nothing for free). Usually with everyone else out there as well. My opinion is to save your money and stay at one of the point breaks, cheaper and more convenient. P.S. a toilet brush in the ensuites would be good and I hope trip advisor doesn't remove this reveiw for being negative.

Its code of ethics among surfers to keep their favorite spots concealed. Upholding that tradition, I will say there is nothing special to see at the Mandiri Beach Club. Spitting barrels, a rare sight. Premier beach front accommodation? Best to check out somewhere else. If you want an epic once in a lifetime expierence, why not plan a trip to, say, Sea World? Because at Mandiri, your every detail wont be looked after, from the music on your voyage to five star food to Bintangs at your disposal to guided trips up the coast. Let me assure you, none of that wil happen and you wont be counting down the days until you return. If that wasnt enough deterrence, its run by three Brits who are a long way from home. What would they know about running a surf camp?

Your friend,

Tyson

I've just checked out from a two week stay in the Mandiri Beach Club from last week Feb till end of first week March 2015. If you want the short version, I think this might just have been the best surf trip I've been on, and I've been 'trippin' since 2001. Here's how it went down...

I followed Mandiri Beach Club (from now on I'll refer to it as MBC) on Facebook and saw the daily updates of an incredible wave out the front. I checked out their prices and was pleasantly surprised that they were definitely affordable - three square meals, unlimited water and coffee (I'd suggest not trying to find your upper limit on the latter ;) ), and tropical fruit to snack on if you need it. Accommodation, airport transfers, daily room clean for a two week stay came in about the same price as a new surfboard.

Getting there -

My expectations were high and I was trying to curb my excitement in the days before the trip. I finally arrived after a six hour airport transfer from Bandar Lampung to MBC. The driver met me at the airport as I was collecting my bags - 'hello boss, are you Dom?' That's me! He then loaded my bags into his air conditioned MPV and we set off. Things were off to a smooth start, important after a volley of long flights. The transfer is long I won't deny it, but we stopped halfway for a good feed and refreshment, then continued into the night, the sounds of the deep jungle all around us. Anyway, we pulled up at the MBC at midnight and straight away a member of staff whipped the boards off the roof, carried them to my room (with a thoughtfully placed bottle of mineral water chilled by the beside) and then delivered me my first cold beer of the trip.

The room and surroundings -

My room was the single occupancy type, with a wider than normal single bed, shower and WC. It was clean, had ample space and storage for my kit. The ocean breeze was blowing in through the curtains and I could hear every set breaking on the sandbar just yards away. The ceiling fan provided enough air movement and I maintained a nice temperature from that night on. Mozzies weren't really a bother though I did use deet now and then.

There are board racks and drying racks outside each room, and when the heavy rains came the room proved to be bone dry.

The MBC set up will lift your spirits when you step in through the front gates. There is grass, trees and plants everywhere, a couple of cute cats and now a tortoise too. It conveys a feeling of serenity and security and comfort all at once.

There is a large dining table which turned out to be a great socializing area and a chance to get together during meals, but the real gem is the twin viewing towers that overlook the surf. You can sit or lie up there all day in the shade, watching your mates get tubed or annihilated and then make an informed decision about where to surf.

Food -

It's possible that you're getting a bit burnt out on my micro-inspection review by now so I'll just say the food is healthy, arrives quickly, and I was sated despite surfing twice a day. You can choose when to have brekky or lunch, but dinner is served at 7pm which is a real win as it gets everyone together for a lovely evening. I don't think we had the same evening meal twice in two weeks, maybe we did but there is ample variety.

Cokes, Sprites, Bintangs, and even home made cakes can be added to your running tab which you settle at the end.

The Surf!!! -

The surf is on your doorstep. It really is. Wake up, have a coffee, check it from the towers and then walk twenty meters across the beach to the water's edge. It's too easy, and allows you to nip in and out for quick sessions or add/remove gopros, rash vests, grab some water etc...It's so close that there really is no reason to not just get in there.

If Mandiri isn't optimal then there are other waves that will work. We did a couple of day trips up the coast to a dreamy right hander and my memories of coming back from a magic surf at that place in the car supping a beer whilst the driver did all the hard work and we were all just talking smack pretty much paid for the airfare alone. Oh and the driver even loads and unloads your boards and watches all your stuff whilst you surf yourself silly.

The crew / staff -

The staff are all really sweet, always smiling, and there is a definite sense that they are happy to be part of the process at the MBC. The MBC owners have created the best atmosphere and it permeates day to day life at the camp. They are obviously can provide a wealth of local surf info if you want it, and also some pretty entertaining stories that aren't surf related. You can read through the reviews here and see that the guys are often described as absolute legends - guests are saying that for a reason. They get stuff done, they're super friendly, entertaining, and take care of all the details that just let you get on with surfing. I take my hat off to the.

Conclusion -

I already have such great memories from my time at the MBC that I never thought I'd get the chance to create. it's so chilled, go on your own and you'll soon meet other solo travelers and the easy vibe of the place just fosters the forging of good friendships and fun, to me that along with the waves is what makes a surf trip. South Sumatra is an incredible, special place, and the guys at the MBC have created the perfect way for you to enjoy it.

If you yearn for good, challenging hollow surf, exploration potential, living in nature, living healthily, surfing yourself stupid and then washing it down with a cold beer and your new best mates, this really is it.

Told you I was frothing.

Booking process was poor.
Website claimed the beachies out the front were good in February. Only had 3 decent surfs at the beachies during a 10 day stay.
Food was average. Had better meals at the other surf resorts / accommodations. Saw the kitchen staff counting money in the kitchen with their hands then proceed to prep food without washing their hands.
Good place to stay if you want to party into the night. Not so good if you want to get some sleep for an early surf to maximise your limited time when the party animals keep you up into the night.
Overall failed to deliver.
